Georgia leads the country in immigration reform…but is it enough?

Cross posted from Georgia Crime Watch

I may have been a little too optimistic last week. Look what I found on my way to an Easter gathering yesterday:

18th st. = The 18th Street Gang

WS = West Side (West Coast)

213 = Los Angeles, CA area code

I wonder if I should bake our ‘newcomers’ a pie and welcome them to the neighborhood?

Nah…i’ll just e-mail these pictures to the Gang Unit instead.

Interestingly enough, our beloved 18th streeters have a Public Service Announcement for us:

Even Gangbangers know that doing drugs is stupid. They choose to sell it to dumb Gringos instead…

So, what is the connection between illegal aliens and gangs? In an Anti-gang study conducted by the LAPD and the INS; the following statistics were found:

Out of 124 cases

Warrants and other documents served: 62 or 50% were illegal aliens.

106 or 85% were in the United States illegally.

64 or 52% belonged to a gang.

85 or 68% had a prior felony conviction.

NOW do you see why so many of us are angry?

Close the borders. Reform immigration. Deport illegal aliens.

Being American

Source: Houston Chronicle (H/T Immigration Watchdog)

Article submitted to Real Clear Politics...vote here.
KIRSTEN Stewart is not the kind of American that President Bush and the Democratic congressional leadership is likely to bring up as they renew their push for so-called comprehensive immigration reform.

Stewart is not the personification of any of the cliches that Bush and the Democratic leadership enjoy tossing about; she is not an impoverished illegal immigrant "living in the shadows." Nor is she a businesswoman who can't seem to find an American willing to work hard for a fair wage.

To the contrary, she is an example of the steep price America pays in integrity when its government refuses to enforce its laws, allowing many of its citizens to violate it with absolute impunity.

Stewart is a landscape professional trying to do the right thing by refusing to hire illegal immigrants — a decision that's effectively putting her out of business.
What's this? Is the woman some kind of right-wing, xenophobic, racist nut job? Hardly...
When she submits a bid to a prospective client, Stewart calculates her labor rate at $15-an-hour or more depending on the job; it's a decent wage with which she knows she can hire American citizens.

Paying a living wage to her workers is also at the core of the progressive political identity she forged while living in San Francisco.
Stewart says that she was "oblivious" to the illegal immigration problem when she first opened her landscaping business a few years back. So what opened her eyes?
"I realized that my foreman, who has been in the country a long time, doesn't have any desire to be a citizen. He has such a strong allegiance to Mexico," she says.

But it was Stewart's pregnant nanny from Brazil, also without papers, that pushed her to make a dramatic change.

"She told me that she was so happy that she was having her baby here because (her child) would get a real Social Security number. She told me how surprised she was at all the 'free' neonatal care she was getting and all the other 'free' health services," Stewart says. "That's when the light bulb went off."
So Stewart fired the nanny who was giddy about sponging off the American taxpayer via her anchor-baby-in-utero. Stewart stopped using her Viva Mexico foreman who was only too happy to use this country while sending his allegiance (and probably part of his paycheck) back across the border.

And what did Stewart receive for her efforts to respect the laws of this country, and to consider the well-being of her fellow citizens while considering her bottom line as a businesswoman?
Almost immediately, she started losing bids.

In a bitter irony, Stewart says many of her prospective clients are dyed-in-the-wool leftists who embrace living-wage ordinances and stronger worker's rights laws.

"They will invariably ask me why my labor costs are so high," Stewart says. "I tell them point-blank it is because I only use legal workers, either citizens or legal residents. I've had a few prospects just stare at me silently after I have told them that, like I have done something wrong. Others have just said 'OK, well thanks for the bid.' "
I wish Kirsten the best with her business, and hope she will manage to find some loyal clients who value her honesty and concern for this country, along with her landscape design skills.

Because, as much as we all throw labels around -- liberal, conservative, progressive, traditionalist, yada, yada, yada -- there is one thing that can (and must) unite us: being American.

That means a whole lot more than just being born or naturalized here. It's the difference between being an American and BEING American.

And that's all the difference in the world.

Liberal Hypocrisy on Illegal Aliens

Cross posted from Illegal Aliens Must Go

By John W. Lillpop

Anyone doubting the hypocrisy of Democrats should consider the following liberal positions with respect to illegal invasions:

* Invading a foreign nation is wrong–except when it comes to illegal aliens from Mexico who invade America;

* Those who support English as the official American language are racists. But Hispanics who prefer Spanish to English are perfectly justified because “diversity is our greatest strength;”

* Republicans are for big business, the rich and powerful. Democrats, on the other hand, represent labor, working families, and the “little guy”

Ignore the fact that Democrats support the influx of millions of illegal aliens, who work for lower wages and without benefits, the effect of which is to drive down the standard of living for “average” American citizens;

* Outsourcing of American jobs offshore is driven by immoral corporate greed. By contrast, open borders and amnesty are acceptable because the majority of illegal aliens are future Democrats;

* Conservatives who seek to preserve American culture are bigoted hate mongers, whereas new immigrants must be allowed, even encouraged, to maintain and celebrate their cultural heritage at all costs;

* Blocking the sale of port security to UAE was necessary to protect homeland security, but securing the border with Mexico is wrong because it would “scapegoat” Hispanics;

* Illegal aliens should be licensed to drive–to avoid breaking the law by driving illegally.

Think about it– Are you enough of a hypocrite to be a liberal?

John Lillpop is a recovering liberal.

“Not in My Backyard - Locals Flip over Hiring Hall”

Cross posted from Demediacratic Nation

It would appear that what is enough for the gander is NOT goose.

An upscale area in Southampton Village, NY (I wasn’t aware of anything that wasn’t upscale there, but this sounds to be something that isn’t), has local residents and business owners in tizzy regarding a planned hiring hall for “immigrant laborers.”

As it stands now, the laborers (by the hundreds), hang out waiting for work opportunities at a local 7-11. The Coalition for a Worklink Center, wants to change that by putting a trailer, porto-lets and parking spaces in a “posh” section of town to replace 7-11 option, which has proved to be a magnet for “traffic snarls, sanitary issues and occasionally unruly behavior at the store.”

Area restaurant, business owners and residents are not too hot on the idea. I would guess the “unofficial” location at the 7-11 was ok to them as none tend to be big fans of slurpees.

The “hiring hall” would offer a great opportunity for checking on “immigrant” status as people were picked up for temporary work and the passing out of 1099s; not that anyone would dare try to enforce our nations immigration laws here or anywhere else for that matter.

Is Southampton an example of one of the two Americas Edwards has been talking about for a couple years now?

MA military supplier raided for hiring illegal aliens

Cross Posted From Bear Creek Ledger:

So, Senators Kennedy and Kerry brought some of that military spending bacon home and this company received a contract probably based on their minority status being Hispanic likes to hire illegal aliens.

From The Stein Report:

“The owner and three managers of a New Bedford [Mass.] leather manufacturer that’s won more than $91 million in U.S. military contracts were arrested Tuesday for allegedly hiring illegal immigrants. The company, Michael Bianco Inc., hired illegal aliens as it tried to meet deadlines to supply backpacks and other products to the military, federal officials said in a court filing. Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers raided the company Tuesday morning,” the AP reports. “In an affidavit, investigators claimed that owner Francesco Insolia, plant manager Dilia Costa, payroll manager Ana Figueroa and office manager Gloria Melo allowed an undercover officer who told them she was an illegal immigrant to continue working at the plant, and Figueroa advised her how to obtain a fake Social Security card.”

I’m wondering how many non-Hispanics are actually hired at this company. Oh yeah, if you read the full story this company is totally focused on hiring illegals. They also make leather goods for Coach Inc. and Timberline Co. I’d venture a guess that even if a non-Hispanic applied for a job at Michael Bianco Inc. they would not get the job.

Additional info update:
My supposition that this employer was only hiring illegal aliens is correct. It’s estimated that 500 of the 580 employees will be deported. All are Hispanic. Michael Bianco Inc. hires illegals because they have less options and are more desperate, plus, working conditions are harsher with the illegals more willing to accept severe workplace conditions. Go here for the details and video.

Also, Rep. Marsha Blackburn has introduced legislation to prevent financial institutions from issuing credit cards to illegal aliens. I like the tag line from Blackburn on this one - “You can’t get a Visa, without a visa”!

The Photo Identification Security Act would require banks to use what Blackburn calls ’secure forms of identification’ to obtain credit. In a statement put out by her office, she says that Bank of America ‘has come under fire in response to reports that it allows illegal immigrants access to credit cards without proper documentation,’” the Memphis Commercial Appeal writes. “‘This bill closes a critical loophole that banking institutions have used to circumvent the letter of the law they have used to target illegal aliens as a new source of revenue. It says to banks and illegal immigrants alike, ‘You can’t get a Visa, without a visa,’” Blackburn said.

Illegal Immigrant Kids Stranded

Cross posted from Red Hot Cuppa Politics

Rounding up illegal immigrants is creating a humanitarian crisis in Massachusetts. I guess the kids are over here to do the job American children won’t do.

Linked thru Drudge; here’s an excerpt:

NEW BEDFORD, Mass. (AP) - Dozens of young children were stranded at schools and with baby sitters after their parents were rounded up by federal authorities who raided a leather goods maker suspected of hiring illegal immigrants, authorities said Wednesday.
Immigration officials said 327 of the 500 employees of Michael Bianco Inc., mostly women, were detained Tuesday by immigration officials for possible deportation as illegal aliens.
About 100 children were stuck with baby sitters, caretakers and others, said Corinn Williams, director of the Community Economic Development Center of Southeastern Massachusetts.
“We’re continuing to get stories today about infants that were left behind,” she said. “It’s been a widespread humanitarian crisis here in New Bedford.”

Hm. If there were infants, I’ll bet they are anchor babies, little American citizens, born here.

Authorities released 45 detainees who were sole caregivers to children. No more releases were planned, said Marc Raimondi, a spokesman for Immigration and Customs Enforcement. Eight pregnant women were also released for humanitarian reasons.

Those still in custody were given the option of letting their children stay with a guardian or putting them in state care, Raimondi said.

I guess as little American citizens, the babies and their moms will enjoy the full benefits of DCFS!
Here’s a little about the company:

Michael Bianco Inc., founded in 1985, specialized in manufacturing high-end leather goods for retailers including Coach Inc. (COH) and Timberland Co. (TBL) before landing a $9.4 million military contract in 2003 to make survival vests.

From 2004 and 2006, it won $82 million in military contracts to make products including lightweight backpacks. An Army spokesman did not return a call seeking comment about the status of the contracts.

Conditions at the factory were not ideal:

Investigators said the workers toiled in dingy conditions and faced onerous fines, such as a $20 charge for talking while working and spending more than two minutes in the bathroom.

I like this story because it points out two really important things about the illegal immigration situation: First, the workers were theatened with being fired if they complained, and afraid of being deported. Almost like an indentured work force.

Second, the tiresome phrase that they’re “doing the jobs Americans won’t do.” Sounds like they’re doing the jobs American companies don’t want to pay American workers to do, and don’t have to provide benefits.

Do we really want a total underclass? Our country has gone through centuries of total agony to resolve the importation of slaves, and it’s not even over, yet. Haven’t we learned anything?!???

The U.S. Chamber of Commerce Pro-Illegal Agenda

Cross posted from Faultline USA

Anti-illegal immigration activists need to be able to see the big picture to understand the lay of the illegal immigration battle ground. By the way, that battle ground is spelled “Globalization.” The translation of “Globalization” is spelled “North American Union.”

The U.S. Chamber of Commerce is one of the major power brokers behind the pro-amnesty Comprehensive Immigration Reform Act.

Here’s what Source Watch said about the U.S. Chamber of Commerce.

U.S. Chamber of Commerce is a powerful business lobbying group in the United States. Since its current CEO Thomas J. Donohue came to power in 1997 the Chamber has increasingly supported Republican candidates and is now a driving force supporting the policies of the George W. Bush administration.

According to the Chamber’s website, the group’s mission is to “advance human progress through an economic, political and social system based on individual freedom, incentive, initiative, opportunity, and responsibility

Lobbying Spending
Political Money Line highlighted in February 2005 the Chamber and its Institute for Legal Reform reported combined spending of $53.38 million for lobbying the Executive and Legislative branches during 2004. According to the watchdog website, “This is the largest twelve-month amount reported spent by any group.”

Here’s part of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce agenda:
Amnesty for millions of illegal aliens!
Privatization of Social Security!
Privatization of US Public schools!
Legal Tort Reform: Diminishing the clout of trial lawyers and reducing the impact on class action lawsuits on businesses!
Pro Senator John McCain??? (see last blog cited below)

Amnesty for millions of illegal aliens

Here’s the U.S. Chamber of Commerce view:

Throughout our history, the dreams and hard work of immigrants have been a driving force behind America’s success as a strong, prosperous nation. We need the continued contributions of these immigrants to grow and remain competitive.

The goal of the Americans for Better Borders (ABB) coalition is to unite regional business organizations and a wide array of companies and national trade associations representing manufacturing, hospitality, tourism, transportation, recreation, and other industry sectors to work to ensure the efficient flow of goods and people across our borders while addressing national security concerns.

The ABB was originally founded in 1998 and was successful in achieving a workable compromise on Section 110 of the Illegal Immigration Reform and Immigrant Responsibility Act of 1996.

Diggers Realm

Currently groups like the Chamber of Commerce try to spin the statistics and claim that things like the increase in crime and taxpayer costs can’t be traced back to illegal aliens because they aren’t tracked (thanks to clever laws put in place by proponents of illegal immigration not allowing prisons, law enforcement, schools and hospitals to ask for immigration status). . . .
The US Chamber of Commerce is for expedited immigration and was fully behind last year’s and this year’s
Comprehensive Immigration Reform Act that would give amnesty to millions of illegal aliens.

Is your state a leader or laggard?
The U.S. business community came out with their take last week on how states compare in educating our nation’s youth. The U.S. Chamber of Commerce in partnership with the Center for American Progress and the American Enterprise Institute released their Leaders and Laggards: A State-by-State Report Card on Educational Effectiveness report that graded each state (including D.C.) on nine separate indicators of achievement, effectiveness, and management.

The report in many ways reflects the Chamber’s view that schools need to be run more like businesses, for example, by including a “flexibility” indicator based partially on how many charter schools state law allows and the amount of autonomy principals have. But it can be a useful resource to determine where your state compares to other states in other areas, too. Most of the grades will not be new to many BoardBuzz readers since they just incorporated rankings from previous report cards by
Achieve, Inc, Education Next, Education Week, the Fordham Foundation, and NAEP into this one report. However, they did have one new and quite interesting indicator called “return on investment.”

Ex-NATO Commander Trades Military Power for Lobbying Power
General James L. Jone, who retired last month as Supreme Allied Commander of NATO forces in Europe, has joined the U.S. Chamber of Commerce as a lobbyist,” reports O’Dwyer’s. He “will head the Institute for Energy, which is to present itself as a grassroots organization .” The new energy group will be similar to the Chamber’s Institute for Legal Reform, which “seeks to diminish the clout of trial lawyers and reduce the impact on class action lawsuits on businesses.” Jones will focus on global warming and try to “unify energy stakeholders behind a common strategy” for affordable and secure power, according to Chamber president Tom Donohue. Jones previously “served as military liaison to Congress and worked closely with” Senator John McCain. At NATO, Jones played a leading role in such “out-of-area missions” as Afghanistan.

“Kiss My American A$$” Protest Statue

Cross posted from Bear Creek Ledger

This is a repeat posting. I loved it so much before I think it deserves a repeat. Especially with the Congress re-looking at opening the doors wide open to our country for the illegal invaders to enter without consequence and actually rewarding their illegal actions.

This is pretty awesome if you’re not happy with the current situation with illegal aliens and the US Senate Bill. Apparently home owner Art Bollinger is in that camp since he created a Statue of Liberty statue to express his displeasure with those illegally crossing the US borders.

Bollinger tells News 11 he will accept anyone into this country as long as they come here legally, but he has no patience for those who sneak in. “You don’t have rights. You are here illegally,” said Bollinger of the people who cross the border without permission. “If I break the law, I go to prison. You break the law and the American government says they’ll kiss your behind. No. That’s ridiculous.”

snip….Bollinger says his wife is from Russia and he had to jump through all kinds of hoops and pay for the process of her becoming a US citizen. He feels everyone else should do the same.
