Cramer: On the right side of the bullet
Every so often, a local news story about a victim of crime goes national. Most recently, it was Sarah McKinley, 18, home alone with her 3 month old son, a few days after Sarah's husband had died of lung cancer. Two men apparently looking to steal pain medicine prescribed for the husband broke in.

DAILY LIFE IN CUBA

Brian and I were listening to a conservative talk radio show and heard an interview with one of the "occupy anywhere" idiots in NY say that they wanted a government like Cuba. Cuba was a wonderful place to live they said. Well, Brian found this wonderful expose about Cuba, something everyone in America should read as well.

From cartadecuba.org
There is not only one Cuba. There are several. One for the ruling class and another for tourists, diplomats and other foreign visitors. These two are very similar. However, there is another country for those who do not receive any of the $800 million dollars sent yearly to the island by Miami-based exiles, and who do not have relatives working in foreign corporations or mixed-capital enterprises. Those who are forced to live, along with their families, solely with national currency, with no access to dollar-based stores. This text concerns such people. Because there are other Cubas, smaller and forgotten.

Please go and read the rest of the story. I love the following list of food rationing that occurs in the wonderful country of Cuba. I wonder what that "occupy anywhere" idiot would do if they were told they could not have a mocha latte ever again. :(

Distribution of food and other products under the Rationing Card {libreta de racionamiento} in Havana:
Monthly, per person: 6 pounds of rice 3 pounds of brown sugar 3 pounds of refined sugar 20 ounces of beans (green peas or lentils) 12 ounces of coffee Half a liter of oil (every two or three months) 10 ounces of salt One quarter pound of ground beef/soy mixture Half a pound of mortadella (every two months) 1 pound of fish 6 eggs 1 bar of laundry soap (every two months) 1 bar of bath soap (every two months) 1, 80-gram, loaf of soft bread, (daily) 1 tube of toothpaste (every two months for three people)

Hillary Clinton Taps Radical Chicano for National Co-Chair

I would like to know are you ready to vote for this women?...

Just weeks after naming the leader of an extremist Mexican group to
co chair her presidential campaign, Hillary Clinton has added yet
another controversial illegal immigration advocate to her team.

The Clinton camp announced with great fanfare this week that the
Speaker of the California Assembly,Democrat Fabian Nunez , is the
latest national co chair of her 2008 campaign.

A renowned advocate of illegal immigrants and organizer of huge marches, Nunez actually declared war

on California’s governor a few years ago because the governor supports
securing the southern border as well as legislative measures to help
curb the state’s illegal immigration crisis.

Nunez has for years been a well-known figure in the La Raza

movement, delivering fiery anti-American speeches and organizing street
marches that have featured up to 100,000 rowdy, Mexican flag-waving
protestors.

At one such rally in the mid 1990s, Nunez referred to U.S. lawmakers as rednecks and vowed to bring Washington to a standstill to protest what he considered to be anti-immigrant legislation in California.

Nunez was also an activist in a Los Angeles pro illegal alien group
(One Stop Immigration and Education) that was federally investigated
for misappropriation of federal and state grants. He will undoubtedly
have a great relationship with Hillary’s other radical campaign co
chair, Raul Yzaguirre, who for three decades headed the extremist group
National Council of La Raza.

If [Bert] Corona is a founding father of Latino activism, then its radical son is Fabian Nuñez, who until mid-June was the political director of the powerful Los Angeles County Federation of Labor. Nuñez left the federation when the Los Angeles Unified School District, the second largest in the nation, appointed him head of government relations.

"We don't have economic power because we don't own the means of production," Nuñez told a rally in January 1995, where he urged the crowd to "bring Washington to its knees." A year earlier, in October of 1994, Nuñez and his militant colleague Juan Jose Gutierrez of the group One Stop Immigration, coordinated a rally of 70,000 immigrants against Proposition 187. Protestors waved Mexican flags and displayed an American flag with only 13 stars. They called Governor Pete Wilson a pig, compared Prop. 187 to Hitler's laws against Jews and told "Anglos" to go back to Europe. Gutierrez is now Senior Political and Community Organizer for the SEIU.

Nuñez is a fevered partisan of Aztlan. Unlike old leftists like Corona, who rejects the idea that Mexicans are a "mystical race" or a "special people," Nuñez sees class struggle on ethnic lines, not economic divisions. For Latino radicals today, the proletariat is entirely Latino and "raza" (race), while the ruling class is "anglo," "gringo" and "redneck." Their dedication to the irredentist cause raises the specter of the organized labor movement marshaled in the service of Chicano radicalism. With blood-and-soil rhetoric, Latino activists cultivate a menagerie of resentments that go back to the Spanish Armada, the 1846 war between Mexico and the United States, and 1930's-style "Mediterraneanism." Fueled by a general resentment of the United States, the raza ist Latino left explains the economic disparity between the U.S. and Mexico by charging that Mexico's wealth and land were "stolen" by gringos

In an interview with Alejandro Sanchez of La Cronica newspaper of Mexico City, Fabian Nunez said that he is ready to wage political war on Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger if he continues implementing policies that targets immigrants and "Californios".

Alta California Speaker of the Assembly Fabian Nunez, who lived the first eight years of his life in Baja California, said to La Cronica, "Ya le declare personalmente la guerra política a Schwarzenegger… para eso me eligieron mis companeros" ( I have already personally declared political war on Schwarzenegger . . . that is the reason I was elected by my supporters). "Es solo el inicio de las confrontaciones con el gobernador Schwarzenegger. En una reunión que tuve con el se lo adverti y le adelante que los democratas no vamos a dejar que pisotee nuestros principios, que son defender a los migrantes y a los californianos" ( This is only the beginning of the confrontations with Governor Schwarzenegger. In a meeting I had with him, I advised him that the Democrats will not allow him to step on our principles which are to defend the rights of immigrants and the Californios).

Speaker of the Assembly, Fabian Nunez, had very humble beginnings. He is the son of a seamstress and a day laborer. He was brought up in the mostly Mexican-American community of San Diego called Logan Heights. He is one of twelve children from a Mexican immigrant family. Fabian Nunez has a Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science and Education from Pitzer College and today lives in Los Angeles with his wife and three young children.

What this means is he is a son of an ILLEGAL ALIEN who got amnesty in 1986. He now expects amnesty for all again and much more.

Fabian Nunez was a moderator at a panel of The National Association of Latino Elected Officials' (NALEO) campaign strategies conference at Chapman College JULY 25-26, 1998.

1) Fabian Nunez is an activist with ONE STOP IMMIGRATION, headed by Juan Jose Gutierrez. ONE STOP is one of the most vocal pro illegal alien advocacy groups in California and is under investigation by the FBI for misappropriation of federal and state grants. They coordinated the massive Los Angeles "Grande Marcha" against Prop 187 in October 1994, where thousands waving Mexican flags outraged Americans throughout the country. Nunez was on stage much of the time, directing speakers.

2) Mr. Nunez was a speaker at the Latino Summit Response to Prop 187 at U.C. Riverside in January, 1995. where 500 pro-alien activists, along with Art Torres' now infamous "Prop 187 is the last gasp of white America in California" statement, made racist, seditious speeches such as:

called for establishment of "AZTLAN" in "occupied territories of Mexico"; called the United States "AmeriKKKa" & "United Snakes of America"; referred to our southern border as "the false border"; claimed "187 is a declaration of war on the Latino community"; called Pete Wilson another Orville Faubus & Pee Wee Wilson; stated "gringos" stole the land of the territorial minority; stated "a classroom is just another space in which to organize, our areas are "sin fronteras" (without borders); human rights are violated when people crossing the border have to show green cards; claimed white men are the invaders; naturalization is a step to get back "what was ours - our land"; claimed the need for Chicano studies in schools & "English should be a foreign language"; "We're in a state of war, a vicious threat to our existence"; "We live in the annexed territories of AZTLAN"; "We live under occupying alien forces"; "We 're hostages in our own land, prisoners of war"; "We're the owners of this land"; "The white man keeps us ignorant"; "We'll take over our campuses, have joint educational planning with Mexico"; "By 2015 we'll be the majority, this means a transfer of power, historically we are going to win."

Mr. Nunez' verbatim (edited) speech at that conference follows:

"...there's only two kinds of power in this country and in this world ... economic power, and we don't have economic power because we don't own the means of production, but there's another form of power, and that's the power of the masses. So you can be as revolutionary as you want, you can be Chicano nationalists, you can be Mexican-American, you can be Hispanic, you can believe in the concept of AZTLAN, you can believe in the concept of multi-culturalism ... somebody can say "I am the only one that has reached revolutionary completeness" ...I'll tell you that on October 16th, 150,000 representatives from the sleeping giant we're not in a coma, but rather we're marching down the streets of Los Angeles saying that enough is enough and we're no longer going to tolerate the racism against our community... we can talk to our people all we want about Chicano nationalism ... give one moment of thought to what the importance of a national march on Washington DC in 1996 would mean for the mass movement of our community ... each of you get ten people to go with us on that march in Washington DC and I guarantee you just as we mobilized 150 [intended to say 150,000] to the streets of Los Angeles on October 16th, we will mobilize 1 million people and bring Washington to a standstill, and those rednecks that are out there making decisions for the betterment of their communities will think twice before they push forward anti- immigrant legislation against our community ... if you're still debating the question of whether they're Chicanos or Mexicanos ... we're not learning from the lessons of 10 - 15 years ago. The time has come for unity... in 1996 we are going to Washington on a mass mobilization there to bring Washington to a standstill so that they know we are there and that we begin to put into place those things that are necessary to insure that we advance the interests of our community."

QUESTION: Mr. Nunez' statements at that conference referencing "we", "our", etc. vs "they" appear to imply that anyone who is of Mexican descent is not a loyal American citizen, but is working with him to overthrow the US government and put the US under the control of Hispanic ethnic tyranny. Would you agree that is an accurate evaluation of his statements?

3) ONE STOP IMMIGRATION conducted the "Latino March on Washington" in October 1996, where 30 speakers supported "rights" for illegal aliens such as free education through college, free medical care, $7 minimum wage with rights to union membership, and another massive amnesty. Another leader of ONE STOP, Umberto Camacho, publicized that rally stating, Marcha Reference

"There is no difference between citizens and the undocumented, and we are taking citizenship to make that happen."

QUESTION: As a ONE STOP leader, does Mr. Nunez hold our citizenship laws in contempt as does Umberto Camacho?

4) ONE STOP IMMIGRATION conducted the "March 9 Coalition" rally at Los Angeles City Hall on March 9, 1997. Fabian Nunez introduced many speakers, one of whom was a representative from M.E.Ch.A., the militant student wing of the AZTLAN movement. She shouted from the rally stage,

"We are in solidarity with those who are being victimized under this racist system - we have lived under the tyranny that has lasted over 500 years - we are victims of genocide ... when the people in this building (including City Hall) no long listen to the community then we must burn the building. Thin they'll wake up. There is no justice - they're killing us ... this is our land - this is our fight? Forward, Mexican people!"

Listen To what Nunez has to say

Since he aligns himself with groups like LaRaza and Mecha, I feel obliged to expose their agenda to you...

La Raza Unida Party held its first National Convention in 1972. The main figures were José Angel Gutiérrez, Corky Gonzales, Reyes López Tijerina, and César Chávez. José Angel Gutiérrez was elected National Chair. Since its inception, The National Partido was plagued with contradiction. However, the major one was the lack of a clear position on what we wanted to achieve and the strategy for achieving it. In order to correct this lack of clarity, La Raza Unida went through a period of regular re-organization

Mecha is a sub group of LA Raza.

La Raza Unida has consistently strived to work with other peoples. The only requisite is that they are organizations or individuals that are working toward the betterment of their communities. We have, and continue to, work with Africans, Anglos, Asians, Filipinos, and of course other Native American peoples.

Oh really?

Jose Angel Gutierrez, professor, University of Texas, Arlington; founder of La Raza Unida political party; and beneficiary of American generosity:

“We have an aging white America. . . . They are dying. . . . They are ******** in their pants with fear! I love it!” “We have got to eliminate the gringo, and what I mean by that is if the worst comes to the worst, we have got to kill him.”

DotRealAudio-RealVideo Listen to this raving fifth-columnist

The current attitude of militant Hispanics toward the United States, the English language, European-Americans, and seizing control of the U.S. Southwest — or Aztlan — was revealed at a strategy session held in January 1995 at the University of California at Riverside under the title “Latino Leadership Summit Response to Prop 187.”

At something called the “Latino Civil Rights Summit.”

There he boasted that:

“We are the future of America. Unlike any prior generation, we now have the critical mass. We’re going to Latinize this country.”

In a puff piece on the conference, Lewis W. Diuguid of the Kansas City Star reported that

“Gutierrez said people from Mexico, Central and South America are not immigrating to the United States. They are simply migrating because this land had been theirs…Hispanics should never put up with others telling them to go back where they came from” [Hispanics will help build future of U.S., April 18th, 2004]

That argument, based on absurd historical claims, completely invalidates the existence of the U.S.A.

Gutierrez also discussed Hispanic demographics. He told the audience that half of the Hispanic population is under the age of 21—and that for every Latino who dies, 5 white people die!

He is activist and lawyer, has served as county judge in Texas, and is an author who has penned such classics as A Chicano Manual On How To Handle Gringos. Since his youth, he has been active in the Chicano movement, and was one of the founders of MAYO, the Mexican American Youth Organization.

Texas Democratic Congressman Henry B. Gonzalez made some interesting comments about MAYO, entered in the Congressional Record, April 3rd, 1969:

“MAYO styles itself the embodiment of good and the Anglo-American as the incarnation of evil. That is not merely ridiculous, it is drawing fire from the deepest wellsprings of hate. The San Antonio leader of MAYO, Jose Angel Gutierrez, may think himself something of a hero, but he is, in fact, only a benighted soul if he believes that in the espousal of hatred he will find love. He is simply deluded if he believes that the wearing of fatigues . . . makes his followers revolutionaries . . . One cannot fan the flames of bigotry one moment and expect them to disappear the next.” (Nativist and Racist Movements in the U.S. and their Aftermath, Yale-New Haven Teachers Institute, Henry A. Rhodes)

Bottom line - Gutierrez wants gringos out of Texas.

Here are excerpts from an interview in 2000:

Q: “If the main goal (of the old Chicano movement) then was to reclaim Aztlan and control all the institutions of civil society, what is the main goal now?”

GUTIERREZ

’ answer: “I think it is still the same thing. You hear the Hispanic Republicans talk about the same thing. … this idea has even been co-opted by the Republicans. ….The Hispanic Democrats and Mexican-American Democrats and Tejano Democrats, synonymous in Texas, they are doing the same thing….. ”

Q: “How are Mexican immigrants of today different from Mexican immigrants of decades ago?”

GUTIERREZ

:” They are different in one salient aspect…they are keeping their Mexicanness. ..The Mexicanos that are coming today, even though they are political refugees and migrants returning to their homeland, are keeping their Mexicanness … They are recreating Mexico here. I think they are doing it because of the sheer numbers. …”

(Fort Worth Star Telegram, October 18th, 2000)

Q: What is irredentism [ethnic nationalism], and what evidence do you see that it is happening?

Gutierrez:” The evidence is their display of their Mexicanness. …These folks now are engaged in active political activity in the U.S. which is unprecedented. They are truly binational citizens. It’s not uncommon to see undocumented Mexicans protesting in front of INS in downtown Dallas. ….They have also now gotten dual citizenship. … [The] Chicano generation…only wanted to carve out half of [19th-century Mexico]…. These folks want it all. They want to recreate all of Mexico and join all of Mexico into one. And they are going to do that, even if it’s just demographically… They are going to have political sovereignty over the Southwest and many parts of the Midwest. ”

More than 400 prominent Hispanics met, including elected officials, to discuss non-compliance with California Proposition 187, the voter-approved referendum denying illegal aliens free welfare benefits. But the conference seemed to deal more with Hispanic irredentism.

Art Torres, the Chairman of the California Democratic Party and the keynote speaker at the meeting, shouted to the audience “Power is not given to you. You have to take it…Remember 187 is the last gasp of White America in California!” and “Que Viva La Causa!” (Long Live our Cause!) — and then later exulted over how he could make such racist remarks with total impunity.

Among the participants was Xavier Hermosillo, a Los Angeles radio talk show host, who had proclaimed on the CBS “48 Hours” show in 1993 that Mexican-Americans were taking political control of the “former Mexican colony, California … house by house, block by block.“

Another participant and friend of Villaraigosa, was Juan Jose Gutierrez, Director of “One Stop Immigration.” Although Gutierrez runs One Stop Immigration with U.S. tax payer money, he makes no bones of his contempt for America.

Antonio Villaraigosa was also a speaker at that meeting. Among the many declarations uttered at the meeting which Villaraigosa did not repudiate were “English should be a foreign language”; “We are hostages in our own land, prisoners of war”; “We live under occupying alien force.”; “We live in the annexed territories of Aztlan”; and “We’re in a state of war … a vicious threat to our existence.”

Although Villaraigosa was and is a public official, he did not condemn the repeated calls for the establishment of an independent country of Aztlan or the references to this country as “AmeriKKKa” and the “United Snakes of America.” In fact, Villaraigosa praised one of the participants, Jose Angel Gutierrez, Director of Mexican-American Studies Center at the University of Texas at Arlington, who has professed since 1970 that “Our devil has pale skin and blue eyes,” and who once said at a MAYA (Mexican American Youth Organization, the forerunner to MEChA) meeting, “To the gringos in the audience, I have one final message to convey, ‘Up yours, baby. You’ve had it, from now on.’ “

I guess Viligarosa is a true American, huh?

At the 1997 Southwest Voter Registration Education Project meeting, where Antonio Villaraigosa was present, his good friend Jose Angel Gutierrez said “we have an aging white America, they are dying, I love it!“

Villaraigosa’s close friend Mario Obledo, co-founder of MALDEF (Mexican American Legal Defense and Education Fund) and winner of the 1998 Presidential Medal of Freedom, awarded by President Clinton, said on the Tom Leykis talk show - 6/17/98: “We’re going to take over all the political institutions of California, in five years, we’re going to be the majority population in this state.” On the Ray Briem talk show - 6/17/98 Obledo said “California is going to be a Hispanic state and anyone who doesn’t like it should leave” Asked by Ray Briem if he thought that the statement was racist, Obledo said “No, because that’s a reality. California is going to be inhabited mostly by Hispanics… saying further “Well, if they (Anglos) don’t like Mexicans they ought to leave. They ought to go back to Europe.“

Two of Antonio Villaraigosa’s close friends are California State Senator, Richard Alarcon and his sister, Evelina Alarcon. Evelina Alarcon is Vice Chair of CPUSA (Communist Party U.S.A.) and is chair of the Southern California District of the Communist Party USA and is the Secretary of its National Mexican American Equality Commission. She also writes editorials for the communist “People’s Weekly World.“

The Takeover of America

CD Produced by the California Coalition for Immigration Reform

The California Coalition for Immigration Reform (CCIR) produced a CD with excerpts of radical, racist speeches by fifteen Latino elected officials, professors, students and community activists, with additional comments by Congressman Tom Tancredo, L.A. Talk Show Host Larry Elder, former CA Governor Gray Davis — ending with disturbing chants by MEChA students. [You may download each individual clip in mp3 format. A link is provided at the end of each individual transcript for your convenience].

These are the verbatim transcripts:

1) Armando Navarro, Prof. Ethnic Studies, UC Riverside at Latino Summit Response to Prop 187, UC Riverside, 1/1995

“These are the critical years for us as a Latino community. We’re in a state of transition. And that transformation is called ‘the browning of America’. Latinos are now becoming the majority. Because I know that time and history is on the side of the Chicano/Latino community. It is changing in the future and in the present the balance of power of this nation. It’s a game - it’s a game of power - who controls it. You (to MEChA students) are like the generals that command armies. We’re in a state of war. This Proposition 187 is a declaration of war against the Latino/Chicano community of this country. They know the demographics. They know that history and time is on our side. As one community, as one people, as one nation within a nation as the community that we are, the Chicano/Latino community of this nation. What this means is a transfer of power. It means control.”

2) Art Torres, former CA state senator, currently Chair of California Democrat Party at UC Riverside 1/1995

“Que viva la causa! It is an honor to be with the new leadership of the Americas, here meeting at UC Riverside. So with 187 on the ballot, what is it going to take for our people to vote - to see us walking into the gas ovens? It is electoral power that is going to make the determination of where we go as a community. And power is not given to you — you have to take it. Remember: 187 is the last gasp of white America in California. Understand that. And people say to me on the Senate floor when I was in the Senate, ‘Why do you fight so hard for affirmative action programs?’ And I tell my white colleagues, ‘because you’re going to need them.’”

3) Jose Angel Gutierrez, Prof. Univ. Texas at Arlington, founder La Raza Unida Party at UC Riverside 1/1995

“The border remains a military zone. We remain a hunted people. Now you think you have a destiny to fulfill in the land that historically has been ours for forty thousand years. And we’re a new Mestizo nation. And they want us to discuss civil rights. Civil rights. What law made by white men to oppress all of us of color, female and male. This is our homeland. We cannot - we will not- and we must not be made illegal in our own homeland. We are not immigrants that came from another country to another country. We are migrants, free to travel the length and breadth of the Americas because we belong here. We are millions. We just have to survive. We have an aging white America. They are not making babies. They are dying. It’s a matter of time. The explosion is in our population.”

4) Bill Richardson, New Mexico Governor, former U.S. Congressman, U.N. Ambassador, U.S. Sect’y of Energy interviewed on radio Latino USA responding to Congressional Immigration Reform legislation in 1996

“There are changing political times where our basic foundations and programs are being attacked, illegal and legal immigration are being unfairly attacked. We have to band together, and that means Latinos in Florida, Cuban-Americans, Mexican-Americans, Puerto Ricans, South Americans, we have to network better - we have to be more politically minded, we have to put aside party and think of ourselves as Latinos, as Hispanics more than we have in the past.”

5) Mario Obledo, founding member/former nat’l director of Mexican-American Legal Defense and Educational Fund (MALDEF), former CA Sect’y Health/Welfare on Tom Leykis radio talk show

“We’re going to take over all the political institutions in California. In five years the Hispanics are going to be the majority population of this state.” Caller: “You also made the statement that California is going to become a Hispanic state and if anyone doesn’t like it they should leave - did you say that?” Obledo: “I did. They ought to go back to Europe.”

6) CCIR commentary on Mario Obledo

When CCIR, the California Coalition for Immigration Reform, erected a billboard on the California/Arizona border reading, “WELCOME TO CALIFORNIA, THE ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION STATE”, Mario Obledo, infuriated, went to the billboard location and threatened to blow it up or burn it down. Even after this threat to deny American citizens their freedom of speech, President Clinton awarded Obledo the Presidential Medal of Freedom, America’s highest civilian honor. CCIR question to Obledo: “Jose Angel Gutierrez said, ‘We have an aging white America, they are dying, I love it.’ How would you translate that statement?” Obledo: “He’s a good friend of mine. A very smart person.”

7) Richard Alatorre, former Los Angeles City Councilman at Latino Summit conference in Los Angeles opposing CA Prop. 209 ending affirmative action in 9/1996

“Because our numbers are growing, they’re afraid about this great mass of minorities that now live in our community. They’re afraid that we’re going to take over the governmental institutions and other institutions. They are right, we will take them over, and we are not going to go away - we are here to stay, and we are saying ‘ya basta’ (enough!) and we are going to turn… and de… not elect or re-elect people that believe that they are going to advance their political careers on the backs of immigrants and the backs of minorities.”

8) Joe Baca, former CA Assemblymember, currently member of Congress at Latino Summit Response to Prop 187 UC Riverside 1/1995 and Southwest Voter Registration Project annual conference in Los Angeles, 6/1996

“We need more Latinos out there. We must stand up and be counted. We must be together, We must be united. Because if we’re not united you know what’s going to happen? We’re like sticks - we’re broken to pieces. Divided we’re not together. But as a unit they can’t break us. So we’ve got to come together, and if we’re united, si se puede (it can be done) and we will make the changes that are necessary. But we’ve got to do it. We’ve got to stand together, and dammit, don’t let them divide us because that’s what they want to do, is to divide us. And once we’re divided we’re conquered. But when we look out at the audience and we see, you know, la familia, La Raza (the family, our race), you know, it’s a great feeling, isn’t it a good feeling? And you know, I started to think about that and it reminded me of a book that we all read and we all heard about, you know, Paul Revere, and when he was saying, ‘The British are coming, the British are coming!’ Well, the Latinos are coming, the Latinos are coming! And the Latinos are going to vote. So our voices will be heard. So that’s what this agenda is about. It’s about insuring that we increase our numbers. That we increase our numbers at every level. We talk about the Congressional, we talk about the Senate, we talk about board of supervisors, board of education, city councils, commissions, we have got to increase out numbers because the Latinos are coming. Because what’s going on right now, with 187, the CCRI (CA Civil Rights Initiative against affirmative action), and let me tell you, we can’t go back, you know, we’re in a civil war. But we need to be solidified, we need to come together, we must be strong, because united we form a strong body. United we become solidified, united we make a difference, united we make the changes, united Latinos will win throughout California, let’s stick together, que si se puede, que no? (it can be done, right?)

9) Antonio Villaraigosa, Chair of MEChA (student wing of Aztlan movement) at UCLA, former CA assemblymember, former CA Assembly speaker, currently Los Angeles City Councilman at Southwest Voter Registration Project Conference in Los Angeles, 6/1997

“Part of today’s reality has been propositions like 187 (to deny public benefits to illegal aliens, 1994), propositions like 209 (to abolish affirmative action, 1996), the welfare reform bill, which targeted legal immigrants and targeted us as a community. That’s been the midnight. We know that the sunny side of midnight has been the election of a Latino speaker - was the election of Loretta Sanchez, against an arch-conservative, reactionary hate-mongering politician like Congressman Dornan! Today in California in the legislature, we’re engaged in a great debate, where not only were we talking about denying education to the children of undocumented workers, but now we’re talking about whether or not we should provide prenatal care to undocumented mothers. It’s not enough to elect Latino leadership. If they’re supporting legislation that denies the undocumented driver’s licenses, they don’t belong in office, friends. They don’t belong here. If they can’t stand up and say, ‘You know what? I’m not ever going to support a policy that denies prenatal care to the children of undocumented mothers’, they don’t belong here.”

10) Gloria Molina, one of the five in Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors at Southwest Voter Registration Project Conference, 6/1996

“This community is no longer going to stand for it. Because tonight we are organizing across this country in a single mission, in a plan. We are going to organize like we’ve never organized before. We are going to go into our neighborhoods. We are going to register voters. We are going to talk to all of those young people that need to become registered voters and go out to vote and we’re are politicizing every single one of those new citizens that are becoming citizens of this country. And what we are saying is by November we will have one million additional Latino voters in this country, and we’re gonna march, and our vote is going to be important. But I gotta tell you, there’s a lot of people that are saying, ‘I’m gonna go out there and vote because I want to pay them back!’ And this November we are going to remember those that stood with us and we are also going to remember those that have stood against us on the issues of immigration, on the issues of education, on the issues of health care, on the issues of the minimum wage.”

11) Vicky Castro, former member of Los Angeles Board of Education at Southwest Voter Registration Project Conference, 6/1996

“Que viva la raza, que viva la raza (long live our race)! I’m here to welcome all the new voters of 18 years old that we’re registering now in our schools. Welcome, you’re going to make a difference for Los Angeles, for San Antonio, for New York, and I thank Southwest for taking that challenge. And to the Mechistas (MEChA students) across this nation, you’re going to make that difference for us, too. But when we register one more million voters I will not be the only Latina on the Board of Education of Los Angeles. And let me tell you here, no one will dismantle bilingual education in the United States of America. No one will deny an education to any child, especially Latino children. As you know, in Los Angeles we make up 70% of this school district. Of 600,000 — 400,000 are Latinos, and our parents are not heard and they’re going to be heard because in Los Angeles, San Antonio and Texas we have just classified 53,000 new citizens in one year that are going to be felt in November!”

12) Ruben Zacarias, former superintendent of Los Angeles Unified School District at Southwest Voter Registration Project Conference, 6/1997

“We have 27 centers now throughout LAUSD. Every one of them has trained people, clerks to take the fingerprints. Each one has the camera, that special camera. We have the application forms. And I’ll tell you what we’ve done with I.N.S. Now we’re even doing the testing that usually people had to go to INS to take, and pretty soon, hopefully, we’ll do the final interviews in our schools. Incidentally, I started this very quietly because there are those that if they knew that we were creating a whole new cadre of brand new citizens it would have tremendous political impact. We will change the political panorama not only of L.A., but L.A. County and the State. And we do that we’ve changed the panorama of the nation. I’m proud to stand here and tell you that in those close to three years we have processed a little over 78,000 brand new citizens. That is the largest citizenship program in the entire nation.”

13) Ernesto Zedillo, former president of Mexico announcing the Mexican constitutional amendment allowing for dual citizenship on 6/23/97

“I have proudly affirmed that the Mexican national extends beyond the territory enclosed by its borders, and that Mexican migrants are an important - a very important part of it. For that reason my government proposed a constitutional amendment to allow any Mexican with the right as he desires to acquire another nationality to do so without being forced to first give up his or her Mexican nationality. fortunately, the amendment was passed almost unanimously by our federal Congress and is now part of our constitution. I am also here today to tell you that we want you to take pride in what each and every one of your Mexican brothers and sisters are doing back home.

14) Augustin Cebada, Information Minister of Brown Berets, militant para-military soldiers of Aztlan shouting at U.S. citizens at an Independence Day rally in Los Angeles, 7/4/96

“Augustin Cebada, Brown Berets, we’re here today to show L.A., show the minority people here, the Anglo-Saxons, that we are here, the majority, we’re here to stay. We do the work in this city, we take care of the spoiled brat children, we clean their offices, we pick the food, we do the manufacturing in the factories of L.A., we are the majority here and we are not going to be pushed around. We’re here in Westwood, this is the fourth time we’ve been here in the last two months, to show white Anglo-Saxon Protestant L.A., the few of you who remain, that we are the majority, and we claim this land as ours, sit’s always been ours, and we’re still here, and none of the talk about deporting. If anyone’s going to be deported it’s going to be you! Go back to Simi Valley, you skunks! Go back to Woodland Hills! Go back to Boston! To back to the Plymouth Rock, Pilgrims! Get out! We are the future. You’re old and tired. Go on. We have beaten you, leave like beaten rats. You old white people, it is your duty to die. Even their own ethicists say that they should die, that they have a duty to die. They’re taking up too much space, too much air. We are the majority in L.A. There’s over seven million Mexicans in L.A. County alone. We are the majority. And you’re going to see every day more and more of it, as we manifest as our young people grow up, graduate from high school, go on to college and start taking over this society. The vast majority of our people are under the age of 15 years old. Right now we’re already controlling those elections, whether it’s by violence or nonviolence. Through love of having children we’re going to take over.” Other demonstrators: “Raza fuerza (brown race power), this is Aztlan, this is Mexico. They’re the pilgrims on our land. Go back to the Nina, the Pinta, the Santa Maria.”

15) Fabian Nunez, formerly Alliance for Immigrant Rights, political liaison for L.A. School District, currently Speaker of the CA Assembly at Latino Summit Response to Prop 187 at UC Riverside, 1/1995

“There’s only two forms of power in this country and in this world. One is economic power, We certainly don’t have the economic power because we don’t own the means of production, but there’s another form of power, and that’s the power of the masses. So you can be as revolutionary as you want, you can be Chicano nationalist, you can be Mexican-American, you can be Hispanic, you can believe in the concept of Aztlan, you can believe in the concept of multi-culturalism. Somebody can say ‘Everybody here is wrong, I am the only one that has reached revolutionary completeness’. But the bottom line is that if we do not mobilize our community we are not putting together a setting - the parameters to establish a massive movement in our community. That’s what this is about. And that’s why I am here today - to talk about who here wants to organize the masses, and who here is interested in developing that movement that somebody earlier said that the sleeping giant is in a coma. I’ll tell you that on October 16 (”Grande Marcha” against Prop. 187) 150,000 representatives from the sleeping giant were not in a coma but rather were marching down the streets of Los Angeles saying that enough is enough and we’re no longer going to tolerate the racism against our community. The very essence of the dignity of our community is in danger right now. Luckily, we don’t have to give our lives. We’re not at that point, but we can give a little. What I would like to ask everybody here to give is not necessarily your life, but to give one moment of thought to what the importance of a national march on Washington DC in 1996 would mean for the mass movement of our community. Get ten people, ten people ready to go with us to that march to Washington DC in ‘96, and I guarantee you, just as we mobilized 150 (sic) people into the streets of Los Angeles on October 16, we can mobilize one million people and bring Washington to a standstill, and those rednecks that are out there making decisions for the betterment of their communities will think twice before they push forward anti-immigrant legislation against our community. And so that we can show our people that the time has come for us to come together on what brings us together instead of to sit down and bump heads. And I tell the students in the colleges, if you’re still debating the question of whether they’re Chicanos or Mexicanos, or Chicano/Mexicano, we’re not learning from the lessons of ten, fifteen years ago. The time has come for unity - there’s too many things that separate people, but we have to begin to look at what brings us together. And so I ask everybody here, how many of you agree if we can leave here with one thing today, that in 1996 we are going to Washington DC on a mass mobilization there to bring Washington to a standstill so that they know that we’re there and that we begin to put into place those things that are necessary to insure that we advance the interests of our community. Raise your hands, those of you that agree with what I’m saying.”

16) Larry Elder, L.A. radio talk show host reads a letter from one of his listeners:

“Dear Larry, I spent ten years as a cruise hostess working at sea on cruise ships all over the world, so many of my assignments were to the Mexican Riviera, going back to the destination over and over again working friendships with many of the local people working along side of us in the Mexican tourist industry. Larry, the one phrase I heard a hundred times or more was, ‘When the revolution is over.’ When I asked for information, always the same answer, ‘When they have California back.’ Young or old, it seems they grew up being taught there would be a revolution some day. Somehow they would have California back.”

17) Tom Tancredo, U.S. Congressman from Colorado,, speaking on CSPAN, 6/27/2001

“In the June 21 issue of Time Magazine, the lead story of which is titled, “AMEXICA”. It describes the de facto elimination of the border between Mexico and the United States. I believe that the debate revolving around our immigration policy should reflect the fact that this phenomenon is underway. President Fox (of Mexico) yesterday stated that he came to the United States to “play a more active role in establishing the new international architecture”. I believe that this new “international architecture” can be described as AMEXICA.
