Virginia Tech Tragedy Has Political Fallout

From KnoxNews:
NASHVILLE - In a surprise move, a House panel voted Wednesday to repeal a state law that forbids the carrying of handguns on property and buildings owned by state, county and city governments - including parks and playgrounds.

"I think the recent Virginia disaster - or catastrophe or nightmare or whatever you want to call it - has woken up a lot of people to the need for having guns available to law-abiding citizens," said Rep. Frank Niceley, R-Strawberry Plains. "I hope that is what this vote reflects."

As amended, the legislation still wouldn't allow guns on school property, however.
They blew it, schools hold our most precious assets and they left them wide open for every lunatic and terrorist.
Niceley's bill aimed to let people holding handgun carry permits take their weapons onto state park property, which is now forbidden.

But when Niceley brought the bill before the Criminal Practice Subcommittee, a branch of the House Judiciary Committee, Rep. Rob Briley, D-Nashville, promptly proposed an amendment to expand its scope.

"We've been piecemealing this thing year after year," Briley said. "Why don't we just let you take your gun anywhere you want to?"
A Democrat that makes sense? I don't know why people cannot understand the phrase the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed?

If some professors, and students, had been armed that lunatic would not have been able to kill so many people. I put their deaths and thousands of others, on the heads of every anti-gun individual in our country.

Speaking of anti-gun murderers...

From the Boston Globe:
Mayor Thomas M. Menino urged the Bush administration yesterday to tighten gun control laws and stand up to the National Rifle Association in the aftermath of the massacre of 32 people at Virginia Tech.

"The federal government could take action . . . by getting the NRA to back off these issues," Menino said in a telephone interview. "Young kids have guns today. . . . How is this being perpetrated throughout the country? It's not just a Boston problem. It's a national problem."

The mayor made his comments as he returned to Boston from New Jersey, where he attended a meeting yesterday of a coalition of mayors united against illegal guns. Menino and Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg of New York started the coalition with 15 mayors in April 2006, and it grew to 214 with the addition of 27 mayors from New Jersey yesterday.
Obviously, New Jersey Mayors learned the wrong lesson from this tragedy.
Like Menino, Bloomberg said yesterday that he will wait for the investigation to be completed before offering extensive comments on the massacre, though he did say that an average of about 30 Americans are slain by gunfire daily.

Menino pointed out that the guns Seung-Hui Cho used to kill 32 people and then himself were bought legally in Virginia. He said looser gun laws in Southern states such as Virginia cause the streets of Boston to be flooded with illegal guns.
No, the problem is you have disarmed your citizens in violation of their Second Amendment rights. You are responsible for creating the killing fields.

Illegal drugs are banned and you can get them anywhere. Even if you banned guns in the USA, the criminals would still have them. Even if the world operated in your liberal ideal, groups of criminals would still attack honest citizens. Or they will use chain saws, machetes, knives, baseball bats, nail guns, and on and on. Criminals will be criminals and lunatics will be lunatics, but you have created the victims by disarming honest citizens.

Every week, on my radio show, I do a segment called the Armed Citizen. News articles I get delivered to me every month in my NRA Magazine from around the country. They are reports of honest citizens using guns to defend themselves, family and others. You will not here about them in the lame stream media, because they all like to demonize guns. even Fox News Channel will not run them. You can search their archives by state here.

A gun, or firearm if you will, is a tool; nothing more. It is long past time to undue all the infringements on our rights to keep and bear arms and get rid of gun free zones. The police cannot protect you and it is not their responsibility, this has been decided by the U.S. Supreme Court. So, it is your responsibility to protect yourselves and the ones you care about.
