In case you haven’t heard, Families First on Immigration is about securing the U.S. borders and eliminating citizenship birthright. Under the 14th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, anyone born in the United States is a citizen — a right Families First is waging an extremely uphill battle to overturn. The article discussed the different viewpoints of religious people when it comes to illegal immigration.
We have religious groups who give shelter and aide to the illegals and then we have groups like Families First on Immigration who believe our borders should be secure and anchor babies should not be a legal practice in the United States. It’s obvious that there are consequences for families that enter the United States illegally. The Washington Times says, ‘It’s hard to find a family in Mexico that doesn’t have relatives in the United States.’
Even Mexican President Felipe Calderon says he has distant cousins, uncles and in-laws scattered in Chicago, Los Angeles and other U.S. cities, many of them living “a salto de mata,” a Mexican phrase that translates roughly as “on the run.”
There doesn’t seem to be any shame in Calderon’s comments, that even his own family can’t make a living in Mexico. Families are split, with husbands and sons coming to the U.S., leaving wives, mothers and children in Mexico. But just because a woman is able to get across the border and deliver a newborn, should that automatically make the child a United States citizen and allow the mother, baby and family to stay here? I don’t think so.
Appletree Blog has this story:
A new policy by the Bush administration to automatically extend Medicaid benefits to uninsured newborns is drawing fire from some anti-immigration activists, because some of the infants covered are the children of illegal immigrants:
What say you? On another note, I would like to introduce you to a new blog, of Bullets and Bibles. The author has his first two articles up and they are good ones: “Let’s Roll! ” and “Moslem tsunami? Come on, really?“
