“Sorsha the dog”, our dog, passed away on Saturday July 2^nd 2011, the day that the Declaration of Independence was written in 1776. She went to sleep peacefully in the grass looking out over the mountains of our remote property and was buried in a shady spot underneath a mighty Fir tree surrounded by many Aspens. She was fourteen years old and a beautiful fluffy Golden Retriever-Chow mix. She traveled the entire North American continent with us, when I was a Travel Nurse.

Our furry child led an incredible life. She has ridden in elevators in five star hotels, she swam on the shores of the Great Lakes; she has slept in a tent with on every mountain in the United States. Sorsha was very protective and loyal. She was gentle but quick to leap into action to protect her home and her family. She was known by many names; My personal favorite, “Misses Sorsha Fluffy Butt”, her Native American name “always in the way dog”, and her four wheeling companion name, “Sorsha the four paw drive doggie.” We loved her dearly and she is much missed. Thank you, God, for her presence in our life. May God grant everyone as special a pet that we were blessed with for fourteen wonderful years. And always remember, God spelled backwards is: DOG.

I am sooo, sooo freakin pissed about this stupid bitch. I had to have "reconstructive jaw surgery" for medical reasons. All my siblings and I, except for one had "buck teeth" (two of them still do). That condition, (and I am putting my RN with a BSN hat on), deteriorates the gum line due to mis-alignment of the teeth. I had two gum operations and was told that without "reconstruction" I would loose most of my teeth and if I had an infection in my gums it could affect my heart. It took two years and I had to have my jaw wired shut for six months to get the job done. It started in 1992, with the surgeons cracking open my upper jaw. My husband had to turn a key to a lock that was surgically implanted in my upper jaw that stretched my jaw to the point that there was a one to two inch space between my two front teeth, every night. The pain was bad and constant. I was going to Nursing school for my BSN during the whole ordeal. So screw you, you sick crazy commie bitch, Kathy Griffin, just shut the hell up. You are not funny and need to go.

Isolated measles outbreak has Indiana officials on alert

State Health Commissioner Dr. Gregory Larkin said his department had dispatched workers to seven nearby counties in northern Indiana to identify any additional cases of the highly contagious disease and to prevent its spread.

The workers have also been given additional doses of the measles vaccine. Individuals who have been exposed to an infected person can obtain the vaccine at no cost, according to a statement released by Larkin's office.

The article does not go into why there have been these outbreaks. Can you say Illegal Aliens from across the globe and third world hell holes? Being an RN I know that this disease can be more serious for adults than children. Especially pregnant women and women of child bearing age. That is why we wiped it out. And I know there is a movement to not have children vaccinated and I know the pros and cons of that movement, but that will be for a different article. When I was growing up, our parents would just let us get all of these childhood diseases so we would build up our own immunity.

Never before in the postwar era have US consumers been this weak for this long.

A plan to take back the Republic

For those who do not listen to my radio show, I spent 10 years trying to figure out how to get back to the Constitutional Republic given to us by those who created the Constitution, with out bloodshed and this is what I came up with:

We need to take back our local and State governments with true Constitutional Conservatives. I am talking from the school boards, town councils to the Governor of the State. We the people have to get off our backsides and find candidates, convince them to run and help them get elected. We the people have been asleep behind the wheel for too long. Once we achieve this the State re-asserts their Constitutional Sovereignty and tells the federal government we will no longer follow your unconstitutional mandates, give you unconstitutional money, take money from you and we do not care what the courts think. We, the States, created you to serve our needs and not the other way around. There are no "implied powers" in the Constitution. The states purge their courts of those who have served in bad behavior and once enough states are taken back we hold an article 5 convention and make the Constitution CRYSTAL CLEAR, including stating the courts will use natural law as found in Emerich de Vatell's Law of Nations and place limitations on the courts. We then purge the Federal courts of those who have served in bad behavior and replace them with people who understand the role of the courts is to look at the original intent of the legislators who created the law and apply it to the person or situation in front of them, not re-interpret the law. Now we get rid of all the unconstitutional laws and bureaucracy that were created and phase out all government entitlement programs. Anything we want to keep we have to amend the Constitution to keep them. Like we need the Air Force, but this requires an amendment. This puts the general government back into it's Constitutional box.

Speaking of the military, no standing army, we have the militia, we the people and the organized militia, the National Guard and the Navy, with Marines, Seals and planes. I would pull ALL our military back home and close all over seas bases. Obviously the Navy would still patrol. Use the National Guard to secure our borders and build the dang fence with gun turrets, unmanned drones, and seismic sensors. The Air Force would have bases here in the USA to protect us.

Now we have our liberty back without a bloody revolution. Sending people to Washington will only slow the train wreck down, they will not and cannot dismantle the federal government from within, but the states have the power.

Federal pension payments follow some retirees into the grave

Federal retirees often enjoy generous pensions, but some manage to keep getting paid even after they’re dead and buried.

Each year, investigators uncover dozens of cases of federal retirees or their spouses continuing to collect retirement checks after death, records obtained through the Freedom of Information Act show>

Usually, relatives, friends or caretakers take the checks and cash them, hoping the government won’t notice. Many of the thieves face criminal charges once caught, but not all of them end up before a judge. And in some cases, years pass before the fraud comes to light.

But some suspects manage to avoid criminal prosecution because the statute of limitations runs out or because prosecutors simply decline to press charges.

In one recent example, the wife of a deceased U.S. Postal Service employee entitled to collect retirement pay died in 1997, but the benefits continued for another nine years, resulting in more than $170,000 in overpayments. The woman, a resident of a nursing home in Texas, had a man handling her finances who had signed paperwork agreeing to “promptly notify the Office of Personnel Management” of her death. But that didn’t happen.

Instead, the case fell through the cracks. After the investigator for OPM’s Inspector General left the office, the case “had not been investigated further since February 2009 due to a lack of resources and higher priority agency cases,” a May 11 memo closing the case states. The statute of limitations, which gives officials five years to bring a case after learning about a possible fraud, eventually ran out.

I am about to enter into a Greasy Spoon in Someplace USA where I will strike up the conversations that I have been talking about to many, many people. Many have said that they will follow me and some said that they will ride with me. This isn't what this trek is all about. I am Callin' All the Clans Together and that is all.

My small group is not interested in starting a war with anyone except the marxist-moonbats that do exist. The marxist-moonbats have thrown the first punch and all we are doing is finishing the fight that they started. period.

I started this trek by using the following: Sick and tired - marching towards the Constitution of the United States. This was followed by a meeting with The Men of Laredo. This was followed by this very article that I am updating right now.

We are not here to kill anyone.

We are not here to wound anyone.

We are not here to make anyone happy, either.

We will defend ourselves against the marxist-moonbats should they come and see at least myself because I have no idea what the other 42 are doing. Three of the 42 are bloggers and they just might be writing on this now and you will have to see who they are because I'll not tell you.

Some are saying that I am a retired undercover and armed CIA man...and I am not. I am armed with the United States Constitution and the Declaration of Independence. I have a copy of Madison's Notes. I have access to Vattel's Law of Nations. This is what I am teaching. This is what I am preaching. Period.

So, onwards and upwards and I will update as I feel I must.

Mobs Attack 2 Men In Streeterville

These were not just "mobs" as the title of this article suggests. These were "flash mobs", "useful idiots". But these "useful idiots" were very very dangerous. This is no laughing matter folks.

Police said at least two people were attacked by criminal “flash mobs” in the Streeterville neighborhood on Saturday night.

The first attack happened around 8:25 p.m. Saturday when a man was attacked after parking his motor scooter near the Northwestern University campus in Streeterville.

The man had parked on the 300 block of East Chicago Avenue across the street from Wieboldt Hall when a group of 15 to 20 men, all approximately 16 to 20 years old and black, approached him, according to an alert from the university.

A few minutes after that attack, man riding his bicycle on the lakefront path at 701 N. Lake Shore Dr. was attacked by a group of teenagers, who punched and kicked him and stole his cell phone, sources told WBBM Newsradio 780.

Brian is really concerned about these "flash mobs" and mentions them constantly on our Radio show. I think these attacks are just like the scene from Jurassic Park, when the dinosaurs were testing the fences to see how vulnerable they were. Scary stuff folks, scary stuff.

American bloggers have hit back at Europeans who have criticised the outpouring of joy over the death of Osama Bin Laden.

While thousands of U.S citizens took to the streets to celebrate the killing, the reaction in Europe was far more muted.

And some are so angered by what they see as a judgmental stance from across The Pond, they have gone online to hit back at the 'cheese-eating surrender monkeys'.

Many in Europe have questioned not only the manner of the killing of an unarmed man, but also the taste and dignity of the American public who chanted 'USA' in the streets.

Expressing these sentiments is Britain's Archbishop of Canterbury who said: 'I think the killing of an unarmed man is always going to leave a very uncomfortable feeling because it doesn't look as if justice is seen to be done.'

However, he went on: 'But I do believe that in such circumstances when we are faced with someone who was manifestly a war criminal in terms of the atrocities inflicted it is important that justice is seen to be served.'

Media Matters' war against Fox

The liberal group Media Matters has quietly transformed itself in preparation for what its founder, David Brock, described in an interview as an all-out campaign of “guerrilla warfare and sabotage” aimed at the Fox News Channel.

The group, launched as a more traditional media critic, has all but abandoned its monitoring of newspapers and other television networks and is narrowing its focus to Fox and a handful of conservative websites, which its leaders view as political organizations and the “nerve center” of the conservative movement. The shift reflects the centrality of the cable channel to the contemporary conservative movement, as well as the loathing it inspires among liberals — not least among the donors who fund Media Matters’ staff of about 90, who are arrayed in neat rows in a giant war room above Massachusetts Avenue.

Notice the ramp up in tactics and the date that this "book" is due out.

Media Matters, Brock said, is assembling opposition research files not only on Fox’s top executives but on a series of midlevel officials. It has hired an activist who has led a successful campaign to press advertisers to avoid Glenn Beck’s show. The group is assembling a legal team to help people who have clashed with Fox to file lawsuits for defamation, invasion of privacy or other causes. And it has hired two experienced reporters, Joe Strupp and Alexander Zaitchik, to dig into Fox’s operation to help assemble a book on the network, due out in 2012 from Vintage/Anchor

Another series of leaked State Department cables made public this week by WikiLeaks lend credence to investigative reports on gun trafficking and the drug war published by Narco News as far back as 2009.

The big battles in the drug war in Mexico are “not being fought with Saturday night specials, hobby rifles and hunting shotguns,” Narco News reported in March 2009, against the grain, at a time when the mainstream media was pushing a narrative that assigned the blame for the rising tide of weapons flowing into Mexico to U.S. gun stores and gun shows.

Rather, we reported at the time, “the drug trafficking organizations are now in possession of high-powered munitions in vast quantities that can’t be explained by the gun-show loophole.”

Those weapons, found in stashes seized by Mexican law enforcers and military over the past several years, include U.S.-military issued rifles, machine guns, grenade launchers and explosives.

The State Department cables released recently by WikiLeaks support Narco News’ reporting and also confirm that our government is very aware of the fact that U.S military munitions are finding their way into Mexico, and into the hands of narco-trafficking organizations, via a multi-billion dollar stream of private-sector and Pentagon arms exports.

Court case warns EPA could 'own' your land!

A legal team asking the U.S. Supreme Court to intervene in an Idaho controversy is warning landowners that under the compliance order procedures being used by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency virtually anyone could be told to pay hundreds of thousands of dollars in permit fees – or face hundreds of thousands of dollars in fines and penalties – over ordinary home construction work.

A petition for certiorari has been submitted to the court by Pacific Legal Foundation, an organization working on behalf of the Sackett family of Idaho.

They own a half-acre lot in a residential area near Priest Lake and wanted to build a home. But after excavation work was begun the EPA "swooped in" with a "compliance order" that requires them to undo the excavation and restore the "wetlands," and then leave it for three years at which point they could seek a "permit" that could cost hundreds of thousands of dollars.

Or they could wait for the EPA to prosecute the alleged Clean Water Act violations, which could result in penalties of $25,000-plus per day.

Titled Washington's Birthday, a federal holiday honoring George Washington was originally implemented by an Act of Congress in 1880 for government offices in the District of Columbia (20 Stat. 277) and expanded in 1885 to include all federal offices (23 Stat. 516). As the first federal holiday to honor an American citizen, the holiday was celebrated on Washington's actual birthday, February 22.[1] On January 1, 1971, the federal holiday was shifted to the third Monday in February by the Uniform Monday Holiday Act.[2] This date places it between February 15 and 21, which makes the name "Washington's Birthday" in some sense a misnomer, since it never lands on Washington's actual birthday, February 22.

The first attempt to create a Presidents Day occurred in 1951 when the "President's Day National Committee" was formed by Harold Stonebridge Fischer of Compton, California, who became its National Executive Director for the next two decades. The purpose was not to honor any particular President, but to honor the office of the Presidency. It was first thought that March 4, the original inauguration day, should be deemed Presidents Day. However, the bill recognizing the March 4th date was stalled in the Senate Judiciary Committee (which had authority over national holidays). That committee felt that, because of its proximity to Lincoln's and Washington Birthdays, three holidays so close together would be unduly burdensome. During this time, however, the Governors of a majority of the individual states issued proclamations declaring March 4 to be Presidents' Day in their respective jurisdictions.

An early draft of the Uniform Monday Holiday Act would have renamed the holiday to "Presidents' Day" to honor the birthdays of both Washington and Lincoln, which would explain why the chosen date falls between the two, but this proposal failed in committee and the bill as voted on and signed into law on 28 June 1968, kept the name Washington's Birthday.

By the mid-1980s, with a push from advertisers, the term "Presidents' Day" began its public appearance.[3] Although Lincoln's birthday, February 12, was never a federal holiday, approximately a dozen state governments have officially renamed their Washington's Birthday observances as "Presidents' Day", "Washington and Lincoln Day", or other such designations. In 1657, an English merchant ship sailed up the Potomac River, anchored in Mattox Creek, and took on a cargo of tobacco. With her new load, the ship ran aground on a shoal and sank. During the delay, a young officer, John Washington, great-grandfather of the future president, befriended the family of Colonel Nathaniel Pope, especially his daughter Anne. When the ship was ready to set sail John stayed behind to marry Anne, thus beginning the Washington family legacy in the New World. The bride’s father gave the newlyweds a wedding gift of 700 acres of land on Mattox Creek four miles to the east. John Washington eventually expanded his land holdings to 10,000 acres. In 1664, he moved his family to a property on Bridges Creek, within the boundaries of today’s George Washington Birthplace National Monument. His son Lawrence, born in 1659, inherited the bulk of his father’s estate. Samuel Lincoln came to Hingham Massachusetts from England in 1637. The Lincoln descendants moved to New Jersey, then Pennsylvania, and finally in 1768 John Lincoln (Abraham's great grandfather) and his family of ten settled in Virginia. In 1782 John's son Abraham, his wife Bersheba, and their five children headed for Kentucky. It is believed that their family friend, Daniel Boone, who had pioneered the first trail into this region only seven years earlier, encouraged the Lincolns to settle the area. In 1786, as Abraham and his boys were planting the fields, Indians attacked and Abraham was killed. In 1808, Thomas, Nancy and Sarah Lincoln moved to 348 acre Sinking Springs Farm on Nolin Creek near Hodgenville, Kentucky, for which they paid $200. It was here on February 12, 1809 that Abraham Lincoln, the seventh generation of his family in America, was born, making him the first president born outside the thirteen original colonies in America. The Lincolns were forced off the farm in 1811 due to a property ownership dispute, when they moved ten miles northeast to Knob Creek Kentucky. Today a memorial stands at Lincoln's birthplace. President Theodore Roosevelt layed the cornerstone in 1909, and President Taft dedicated it in 1911. Its 56 granite steps represent the 56 years of Abraham Lincoln's life, and inside is a cabin representative of Lincoln's (although not his, it was built locally in the 1840s, then disassembled and moved inside the memorial building). The memorial receives about 200,000 visitors a year.

An alarming new report says the United States is choosing to rely on China for the rare earth metals that are critical for the production of America's strategic defense weapons, giving the communist nation a chokehold on the ability of the U.S. to defend itself, according to Joseph Farah's G2 Bulletin.

While the U.S. has the world's second-largest reserves of the substances, instead of facilitating production, it has left China to take over the market – it controls some 97 percent of the global sales of these elements, according to the report.

The American Security Project, in fact, says the U.S. is "completely reliant on China" for rare earth metals for the production of the nation's most critical weapons systems.

Haslam plans broad-based immigration legislation

NASHVILLE -- Gov. Bill Haslam said Wednesday he is working with Republican legislative leaders to develop a broad-based bill dealing with illegal immigration.

One piece would be an Arizona-style law allowing state and local police to enforce federal immigration laws.

Another would require the written portion of driver's license exams be given in English unless the person is in the U.S. legally through a work or student visa.

The law would require businesses to use the federal E-Verify program in hiring and make the state ensure illegal immigrants cannot access a number of state services.

Haslam spoke to reporters after an address to state business leaders. He cautioned he doesn't want Tennessee to set too strident a tone in its approach.

This state has every right to say who can and cannot come into their state legally or illegally. I hope this catches on like wildfire, state by state. Screw the federal government. There is no business of the state, that the States can't do better than the Federal government. We need to get rid of the feds and take our States back, period. Oh, and bye the bye, Governors have more power than the President of the United States.

Plastic pellet incident at Va. school ends in expulsion, assault charges

Andrew Mikel II admits it was a stupid thing to do. In December, bored and craving attention, the 14-year-old used a plastic tube to blow small plastic pellets at fellow students in Spotsylvania High School. In one lunch period, he scored three hits."They flinched. They looked annoyed," Mikel said.

The school district saw it as more than a childish prank. School officials expelled him for possession and use of a weapon, and they called a deputy sheriff to the scene, said Mikel and his father, Andrew Mikel Sr.

The younger Mikel, a freshman, said he was charged with three counts of misdemeanor assault. The case was first reported by the Web site WorldNetDaily.

I feel sorry for the United States By Susan Frances Bonner

I feel sorry that as a nation of such diverse and hardy people we only have two political parties to represent us. It proves we are not strong enough to stand up to what we believe in. That was the first step towards relinquishing our freedom.

I feel sorry that our leaders are dividing us by lines of race, religion, and income. We’re all in this together.

I feel sorry that after the attack on NY, the pentagon, and the bravery of the United States citizens in Pennsylvania; nationalism, sovereign citizen, patriotism, and God are dirty words.

I feel sorry that in a land so rich with resources, we cannot rely on each other, or ourselves to live day to day.

I feel sorry that we must be blamed for every nation’s mistakes and problems; the price of bringing freedom to the world is indeed high.

I feel sorry that we can’t come to terms, that no matter how much we talk, tolerate and help another nation, they still hate and want to destroy every person in our country.

I feel sorry that the concept of national and personal defense; which was the basis for our constitution and Bill of Rights, has become the most controversial and questioned issue of these times.

I feel sorry that the liberals of our country cannot tell every one of their real agenda; to merge us into a one world order. I hate to break it to them, but the Vulcans are not going to rescue us.

I feel sorry that our children are being brought up by either the government, TV, or the local drug dealer. And parents are too busy to care.

I feel sorry that the break down of our families is the fault of our women, who never realized how important they were, behind it all, keeping us all together.

And I truly feel sorry that those fateful words of Benjamin Franklin now sound so ominous… “We’ve given you a Republic; let’s see if you can keep it.”

Maine Gov. Paul LePage on NAACP: "Tell 'em to kiss my butt."

Good for him. These special interest groups have got to be "rained in". As my husband and I and our fluffy dog were traveling around the country, we visited Maine while living in Vermont for the thirteen weeks I was a Travel Nurse. I saw my first Moose in Maine. We even looked at property for sale. Now it's turned way too liberal for us, but the Governor sounds like a pistol!

SANFORD, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- While attending a meeting for business leaders in Sanford, Governor Paul LePage spoke out about why he would not attend Martin Luther King ceremonies on the upcoming holiday.

LePage has declined invitations from the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP). The organization has already expressed its displeasure with the governor's plans to not attend the events.

"They are a special interest. End of story...and I'm not going to be held hostage by special interests. And if they want, they can look at my family picture. My son happens to be black, so they can do whatever they'd like about it," said LePage.

Draft of the Kentucky Resolution - October 1798

I will be sending this to the Governor of Arizona to help her in her battle against the federal government.

I know that this is long and tough to read but well worth it. This is the first time that the States had to remind the federal government that they had limited powers over the states. The draft of this resolution was written by Thomas Jefferson for Kentucky against the congress and President John Adams. This is what every state must assert and tell the feds to go scratch! Notice the date people. When was the Constitution ratified? You can use this site to find that out as well.

Auld Lang Syne is sung at the stroke of midnight in almost every English-speaking country in the world to bring in the new year. At least partially written by Robert Burns in the 1700's, it was first published in 1796 after Burns' death. Early variations of the song were sung prior to 1700 and inspired Burns to produce the modern rendition. An old Scottish tune, "Auld Lang Syne" literally means "old long ago," or simply, "the good old days.

"Happy New Year!" That greeting will be said and heard for at least the first couple of weeks as a new year gets under way. But the day celebrated as New Year's Day in modern America was not always January 1.

The celebration of the new year is the oldest of all holidays. It was first observed in ancient Babylon about 4000 years ago. In the years around 2000 BC, the Babylonian New Year began with the first New Moon (actually the first visible cresent) after the Vernal Equinox (first day of spring).

The beginning of spring is a logical time to start a new year. After all, it is the season of rebirth, of planting new crops, and of blossoming. January 1, on the other hand, has no astronomical nor agricultural significance. It is purely arbitrary.

The Babylonian new year celebration lasted for eleven days. Each day had its own particular mode of celebration, but it is safe to say that modern New Year's Eve festivities pale in comparison. The Romans continued to observe the new year in late March, but their calendar was continually tampered with by various emperors so that the calendar soon became out of synchronization with the sun.

In order to set the calendar right, the Roman senate, in 153 BC, declared January 1 to be the beginning of the new year. But tampering continued until Julius Caesar, in 46 BC, established what has come to be known as the Julian Calendar. It again established January 1 as the new year. But in order to synchronize the calendar with the sun, Caesar had to let the previous year drag on for 445 days.

Although in the first centuries AD the Romans continued celebrating the new year, the early Catholic Church condemned the festivities as paganism. But as Christianity became more widespread, the early church began having its own religious observances concurrently with many of the pagan celebrations, and New Year's Day was no different. New Years is still observed as the Feast of Christ's Circumcision by some denominations.

During the Middle Ages, the Church remained opposed to celebrating New Years. January 1 has been celebrated as a holiday by Western nations for only about the past 400 years.

Other traditions of the season include the making of New Year's resolutions. That tradition also dates back to the early Babylonians. Popular modern resolutions might include the promise to lose weight or quit smoking. The early Babylonian's most popular resolution was to return borrowed farm equipment.

The Tournament of Roses Parade dates back to 1886. In that year, members of the Valley Hunt Club decorated their carriages with flowers. It celebrated the ripening of the orange crop in California.

Although the Rose Bowl football game was first played as a part of the Tournament of Roses in 1902, it was replaced by Roman chariot races the following year. In 1916, the football game returned as the sports centerpiece of the festival. The tradition of using a baby to signify the new year was begun in Greece around 600 BC. It was their tradition at that time to celebrate their god of wine, Dionysus, by parading a baby in a basket, representing the annual rebirth of that god as the spirit of fertility. Early Egyptians also used a baby as a symbol of rebirth.

Although the early Christians denounced the practice as pagan, the popularity of the baby as a symbol of rebirth forced the Church to reevaluate its position. The Church finally allowed its members to celebrate the new year with a baby, which was to symbolize the birth of the baby Jesus.

The use of an image of a baby with a New Years banner as a symbolic representation of the new year was brought to early America by the Germans. They had used the effigy since the fourteenth century. Traditionally, it was thought that one could affect the luck they would have throughout the coming year by what they did or ate on the first day of the year. For that reason, it has become common for folks to celebrate the first few minutes of a brand new year in the company of family and friends. Parties often last into the middle of the night after the ringing in of a new year. It was once believed that the first visitor on New Year's Day would bring either good luck or bad luck the rest of the year. It was particularly lucky if that visitor happened to be a tall dark-haired man.

Traditional New Year foods are also thought to bring luck. Many cultures believe that anything in the shape of a ring is good luck, because it symbolizes "coming full circle," completing a year's cycle. For that reason, the Dutch believe that eating donuts on New Year's Day will bring good fortune.

Many parts of the U.S. celebrate the new year by consuming black-eyed peas. These legumes are typically accompanied by either hog jowls or ham. Black-eyed peas and other legumes have been considered good luck in many cultures. The hog, and thus its meat, is considered lucky because it symbolizes prosperity. Cabbage is another "good luck" vegetable that is consumed on New Year's Day by many. Cabbage leaves are also considered a sign of prosperity, being representative of paper currency. In some regions, rice is a lucky food that is eaten on New Year's Day.

a) The Christmas Tree; from Wikipedia

In Britain, the Christmas tree was introduced in the time of the personal union with Hanover, by George III's Queen Charlotte of Mecklenburg-Strelitz in early 19th century, but the custom hadn't yet spread much beyond the royal family. Queen Victoria as a child was familiar with the custom. In her journal for Christmas Eve 1832, the delighted 13-year-old princess wrote, "After dinner...we then went into the drawing-room near the dining-room...There were two large round tables on which were placed two trees hung with lights and sugar ornaments. All the presents being placed round the trees..". After her marriage to her German cousin Prince Albert, by 1841 the custom became even more widespread throughout Britain. In 1847, Prince Albert wrote: "I must now seek in the children an echo of what Ernest [his brother] and I were in the old time, of what we felt and thought; and their delight in the Christmas-trees is not less than ours used to be".

A woodcut of the British Royal family with their Christmas tree at Windsor Castle, initially published in the Illustrated London News December 1848, was copied in the United States at Christmas 1850, in Godey's Lady's Book (illustration, left). Godey's copied it exactly, except for the removal of the Queen's tiara and Prince Albert's mustache, to remake the engraving into an American scene. The republished Godey's image became the first widely circulated picture of a decorated evergreen Christmas tree in America. Art historian Karal Ann Marling called Prince Albert and Queen Victoria, shorn of their royal trappings, "the first influential American Christmas tree". Folk-culture historian Alfred Lewis Shoemaker states, "In all of America there was no more important medium in spreading the Christmas tree in the decade 1850-60 than Godey's Lady's Book". The image was reprinted in 1860, and by the 1870s, putting up a Christmas tree had become common in America.

Several cities in the United States with German connections lay claim to that country's first Christmas tree: Windsor Locks, Connecticut, claims that a Hessian soldier put up a Christmas tree in 1777 while imprisoned at the Noden-Reed House, while the "First Christmas Tree in America" is also claimed by Easton, Pennsylvania, where German settlers purportedly erected a Christmas tree in 1816 and In his diary, Matthew Zahm of Lancaster, Pennsylvania, recorded the use of a Christmas tree in 1821, leading Lancaster to also lay claim to the first Christmas tree in America. Other accounts credit Charles Follen, a German immigrant to Boston, for being the first to introduce to America the custom of decorating a Christmas tree. August Imgard, a German immigrant living in Wooster, Ohio, is the first to popularise the practice of decorating a tree with candy canes. In 1847, Imgard cut a blue spruce tree from a woods outside town, had the Wooster village tinsmith construct a star, and placed the tree in his house, decorating it with paper ornaments and candy canes. The National Confectioners' Association officially recognises Imgard as the first ever to put candy canes on a Christmas tree; the canes were all-white, with no red stripes. Imgard is buried in the Wooster Cemetery, and every year, a large pine tree above his grave is lit with Christmas lights. German immigrant Charles Minnegerode accepted a position as a professor of humanities at the College of William and Mary in Williamsburg in 1842, where he taught Latin and Greek. Entering into the social life of the Virginia Tidewater, Minnigerode introduced the German custom of decorating an evergreen tree at Christmas at the home of law professor St. George Tucker, thereby becoming another of many influences that prompted Americans to adopt the practice at about that time

b) The Yule log

The yule log happens to be one of the oldest Christmas traditions. In fact, it was created long before the act of Christmas came into existence. It originated in Scandinavia to celebrate the winter solstice and the beginning of longer days. This celebration meant that the darkest days were over and the rebirth of the sun has begun.

The burning of the yule log not only took place in the Scandinavian countries but also as far west as Ireland to the south in Greece to as far north as Siberia. The flames represented the light of the sun, but in later years, when it was incorporated into the Christmas holiday it represented the light of the Savior.

Many of us have heard about the burning of the yule log during Christmas, but few of us are aware of the reason for this ritual. Originally the burning of the yule log began during the winter solstice and lasted for a period of three days. As long as the log burned, people did not have to work. If that were the case today, I would be burning one continuously and long after the winter solstice ended. But today it is more symbolic than it is an actual ritual.

People chose their yule log based on many ideas and beliefs. Different types of tree wood represented different things to the people that burned them. Some chose the wood of the aspen for spiritual understanding. Others chose the wood of the mighty oak as it represented strength, wisdom and healing. The wood of the pine urged a coming year of prosperity and growth. And for those wishing for a family, opted for the wood of the birch representing fertility along with new beginnings. The ash, the most common, invoked protection.

Each year a new log is brought into the home and lit for the yule festival. It is a time of celebration, feast and family. In those days, fireplaces were quite large and could host the trunk that was brought in for burning. Usually they would soak this log in water for days or choose a very green log to ensure a long and consistent burn. The yule log is never allowed to completely burn as a piece is saved to start the new one the following year. Not only did this bring good luck, is also represented continuity and the eternal light of heaven.

The remaining piece of unburnt yule log was left in the house through the year to protect it from fire, lightning or hail. The ashes were sprinkled in wells to keep the water safe. Some ashes were also placed at the roots of fruit trees and vines to help them bear a good harvest the following year.

In some cultures, these logs were also used to predict bad luck. If the fire was ever allowed to go out before the night was over, it meant tragedy would strike the home in the coming year. If the flames cast someone’s shadow without a head, it supposedly meant that person would die within a year.

It was a ritual of the past that many held true to tradition and belief. In today’s world, fireplaces are no longer large enough to host a tree trunk to be used during the festival period. Many places do not even have a fireplace anymore, thus comes the creation of the symbolic yule log many of us have today.

c) Egg Nog

The word itself does not have much appeal, the guttural sound and the thought of drinking egg doesn’t sound very appetizing to most. There are differing opinions as to the origin of the name for this famous drink. One version says that nog derives from an Old English word for strong beer, hence “noggin”. Another version attributes the name to Colonial America where colonists referred to thick drinks as “grog” and eggnog as “egg-and-grog”. Either way, we know it today as Eggnog.

It is believed that the eggnog tradition began in Europe as an adaptation of the various milk and wine punches often served at social gatherings. In the 17th century, eggnog was used as a toast to one’s health and was consumed by the well-to-do of society as milk and eggs were scarce commodities in Europe.

When the brew was brought to the “New World,” colonists added a new twist, rum. The rum Americans could get from the Caribbean was considerably less expensive than the other liquors shipped from England. And so, along with the readily available supply of milk and eggs in the colonies, the rum version quickly became a popular drink for people of all classes. As a rich, spicy and (oh yes) alcoholic drink, eggnog soon became a familiar item during the holiday season across the growing nation. Each region would adapt the drink to their personal tastes. Even George Washington devised his own version of the brew which only the most courageous would partake using rye whiskey, rum and sherry.
In the south, Southern taste replaced rum with bourbon. And when the brew reached Latin America even more adaptations were made; in Puerto Rico coconut juice or milk was added, in Mexico eggnog became a harder liqueur to be sipped with the addition of Mexican cinnamon and rum or grain alcohol, and in Peru it was made with the Peruvian pomace brandy called pisco.

d) Christmas Lights

The tradition of using small candles to light up the Christmas tree dates back to at least the middle of the XVIIth century. However, it took two centuries for the tradition to become widely established first in Germany and soon spreading to Eastern Europe.

Candles for the tree were glued with melted wax to a tree branch or attached by pins. Around 1890, candleholders were first used for Christmas candles. Between 1902 and 1914, small lanterns and glass balls to hold the candles started to be used.Albert Sadacca was fifteen in 1917, when he first got the idea to make safety Christmas lights for Christmas trees. A tragic fire in New York City involving Christmas tree candles inspired Albert to invent electric Christmas lights. The Sadacca family sold ornamental novelty items including novelty lights. Albert adapted some of the products into safe electric lights for Christmas trees. The first year only one hundred strings of white lights sold. The second year Sadacca used brightly colored bulbs and a multi-million dollar business took-off. Later, a company started by Albert Sadacca (and his two brothers Henri and Leon) called NOMA Electric Company became the largest Christmas lighting company in the world.

e) Apple Cider

Historians largely agree that apple trees existed along the Nile River Delta as early as 1300 BC, but it is unclear whether cider was ever produced from the fruit.

When the Romans arrived in England in 55 BC, they were reported to have found the local Kentish villagers drinking a delicious cider-like beverage made from apples. According to ancient records, the Romans and their leader, Julius Caesar, embraced the pleasant pursuit with enthusiasm. How long the locals had been making this apple drink prior to the arrival of the Romans is anybody's guess.

By the beginning of the ninth century, cider drinking was well established in Europe and a reference made by Charlemagne clearly confirms its popularity.

After the Norman Conquest of 1066, cider consumption became widespread in England and orchards were established specifically to produce cider apples. During medieval times, cider making was an important industry. Monasteries sold vast quantities of their strong, spiced cider to the public. Farm laborers received a cider allowance as part of their wages, and the quantity increased during haymaking. English cider making probably peaked around the mid seventeenth century, when almost every farm had its own cider orchard and press. The industry later went into decline, due to major agricultural changes. Cider regained its popularity during the twentieth century, but demand was largely for the mass-produced variety. Only in recent years has traditional cider making finally triumphed.

American history tells a different tale. Early English settlers introduced cider to America by bringing with them seeds for cultivating cider apples. During the colonial period, grains did not thrive well and were costly to import. On the other hand, apple orchards were plentiful, making apples cheap and easily obtainable. As a result, hard cider quickly became one of America's most popular beverages. Consumption of cider increased steadily during the eighteenth century, due in part to the efforts of the legendary Johnny Appleseed, who planted many apple trees in the Midwest.

However, a series of events led to cider's fall in popularity. The introduction of German beer with its faster fermentation process quickly made beer popular because German immigrants were able to set up large breweries for producing great quantities of beer. The production of apple cider was still limited to small farms. The religiously based Temperance movement then caused many church-going farmers to give up cider. Some even went as far as to chop down their apple trees. Then Prohibition became the law and pretty much destroyed the market for apple cider.

Today, with the growing popularity of microbreweries, the tide has turned. Traditional cider making is experiencing a major resurgence in both America and Europe

As if this line of attack weren't perfectly obvious, liberal radio host Randi Rhodes attacked Sean Hannity and Rush Limbaugh on Friday afternoon for favoring the extension of the Bush tax cuts just so they can selfishly keep their own millions of dollars:

Tell Sean Hannity that the only reason that Sean Hannity is advocating for holding out for 98 percent of the American people and holding them hostage is because Sean Hannity makes $22 million a year, that's why! Sean Hannity makes $22 million a year. If Sean Hannity doesn't get his tax cut, Sean Hannity is going to pay about $900,000 more a year.

Rush Limbaugh makes $58 million a year reportedly. He's going to get a tax -- if the the tax on the top two percent is allowed to sunset, he's going to pay an extra $22 million a year. That's his tax bill, not his salary! That's his tax bill on almost $60 million dollars. But without it, you know, if they hold us hostage, then Rush will get an extra $2.7 million next year at a time when people are literally standing in line for heating assistance and he's mocking them and making racist comments about their inability to find a job or their lack of desire to find a job.

Ok, first, it's THEIR MONEY,dumb bitch. And second, how much money do you make? Are you donating your time for the job you that you are currently employed? Are you taking any money from your employers? Oh, and if you want to donate money to the government you should feel free to do so and add more money to your income taxes. There is a way to do that, all you have to do is contact the IRS. They will be happy to tell you how. Stop telling "We the People" what we need to do with our own money. Bitch!!!!

According to the pool report from the press conference, one reporter said "Thank you, Mr. President." Someone said the reporter was Australian.

"I knew it must have been an Australian because my folks never say thank you," Obama said.

At that, the entire American pool said in unison -- admittedly with a bit of sarcasm -- "Thank you, Mr. President."

PM Gillard could be heard chiming in, "There are a few cheeky Australians here."

At first glance, Obama's comment reeks of arrogance. He seems to think that press access is a privilege, not a right, and that he is under no obligation to even speak to reporters.

A Plan To Take Back The Republic

For those who do not listen to my radio show, I spent 10 years trying to figure out how to get back to the Constitutional Republic given to us by those who created the Constitution, with out bloodshed and this is what I came up with:

We need to take back our local and State governments with true Constitutional Conservatives. I am talking from the school boards, town councils to the Governor of the State. We the people have to get off our backsides and find candidates, convince them to run and help them get elected. We the people have been asleep behind the wheel for too long. Once we achieve this the State re-asserts their Constitutional Sovereignty and tells the federal government we will no longer follow your unconstitutional mandates, give you unconstitutional money, take money from you and we do not care what the courts think. We, the States, created you to serve our needs and not the other way around. There are no "implied powers" in the Constitution. The states purge their courts of those who have served in bad behavior and once enough states are taken back we hold an article 5 convention and make the Constitution CRYSTAL CLEAR, including stating the courts will use natural law as found in Emerich de Vatell's Law of Nations and place limitations on the courts. We then purge the Federal courts of those who have served in bad behavior and replace them with people who understand the role of the courts is to look at the original intent of thee legislators who created the law and apply it to the person or situation in front of them, not re-interpret the law. Now we get rid of all the unconstitutional laws and bureaucracy that were created and phase out all government entitlement programs. anything we want to keep we have to amend the Constitution to to keep them. Like we need the air force, but this requires an amendment. This puts the general government back into it's Constitutional box.

Speaking of the military, no standing army, we have the militia, we the people and the organized militia, the National Guard and the navy, with Marines, Seals and planes. I would pull ALL our military back home and close all over seas bases. Obviously the Navy would still patrol. Use the National Guard to secure our borders and build the dang fence with gun turrets, unmanned drones, and seismic sensors. the Airforce would have bases here in the USA to protect us.

Now we have our liberty back without a bloody revolution. Sending people to Washington will only slow the train wreck down, they will not and cannot dismantle the federal government from within, but the states have the power.

Eleven Tucson, Arizona, educators sued the state board of education and superintendent this week for what the teachers consider an "anti-Hispanic" ban looming on Mexican-American studies.

The suit comes in a state already roiled by a controversial immigration law that is being challenged in court.

On Tuesday, state Superintendent of Public Instruction Tom Horne defended the new law, which will go into effect December 31. The law authorizes the superintendent to stop any ethnic studies classes that "promote the overthrow of the United States government ... promote resentment toward a race or class of people ... (or) advocate ethnic solidarity instead of treatment of pupils as individuals."

Horne said he would seek the first-ever ban in Tucson for its "raza studies" program, now called Mexican-American studies. Raza means "the race" in Spanish.

If anyone wants to take these dumbass courses on their own, fine, but our children should not be forced, as prisoners of the public school system to do so. Parents please protest, it's up to you.

In the month after Homeland Security officials started a review of Houston's immigration court docket, immigration judges dismissed more than 200 cases, an increase of more than 700 percent from the prior month, new data shows.

The number of dismissals in Houston courts reached 217 in August — up from just 27 in July, according to data from the Executive Office for Immigration Review, which administers the nation's immigration court system.

In September, judges dismissed 174 pending cases — the vast majority involving immigrants who already were out on bond and had cases pending on Houston's crowded downtown court docket, where hearings are now being scheduled into 2012.

Roughly 45 percent of the 350 cases decided in that court in September resulted in dismissals, the records show.

The EOIR data offer the first glimpse into Homeland Security's largely secretive review of pending cases on the local immigration court docket.

In early August, federal attorneys in Houston started filing unsolicited motions to dismiss cases involving suspected illegal immigrants who have lived in the country for years without committing serious crimes.

News of the dismissals, first reported in the Houston Chronicle in late August, caused a national controversy amid allegations that the Obama administration was implementing a kind of "backdoor amnesty" — a charge officials strongly denied.

In recent weeks, some immigration attorneys reported the dismissals have slowed somewhat, while others reported they now have to ask ICE trial attorneys to exercise prosecutorial discretion in order to have their cases dismissed. Others, however, said they are still being approached by government attorneys seeking to file joint motions for case dismissal.

Well, we have to keep them in the country until we can get them amnesty right? The administration refuses to stop people coming into our country illegally and refuses to enforce the laws and deport them.

Mexican assassins headed to Arizona

Drug smuggling gangs in Mexico have sent well-armed assassins, or "sicarios," into Arizona to locate and kill bandits who are ambushing and stealing loads of cocaine, marijuana and heroin headed to buyers in the United States, the Department of Homeland Security has warned Arizona law enforcement authorities.

In a memo sent in May and widely circulated since, the department said: "We just received information from a proven credible confidential source who reported that a meeting was held in Puerto Penasco in which every smuggling organization who utilizes the Vekol Valley was told to attend. This included rival groups within the Guzman cartel."

...The Vekol Valley is a widely-traveled drug smuggling corridor running across Interstate 8 between the Arizona towns of Casa Grande and Gila Bend, continuing north towards Phoenix. It gives drug smugglers the option of shipping their goods to California or to major cities both north and east.

The Homeland Security memo said a group of "15, very well equipped and armed sicarios complete with bullet proof vests" had been sent into the valley. It said the assassins would be disguised as "groups of 'simulated backpackers' carrying empty boxes covered with burlap into the Vekol Valley to draw out the bandits." Once identified, the memo said, "the sicarios will take out the bandits."

This is the same area where the Federal Government powered SIGNS warning U.S. Citizens It is dangerous to travel in this area in response to Arizona's request for 3000 National Guard troops. Do you still think the border is 'secure"?

Pinal County Sheriff Paul Babeu, whose county lies at the center of major drug and alien smuggling routes to Phoenix and cities east and west, told The Washington Times earlier this month that Mexican drug cartels have posted scouts on the high points in the mountains and in the hills and "they literally control movement.

"They have radios, they have optics, they have night-vision goggles as good as anything law enforcement has," he said. "This is going on here in Arizona. This is 70 to 80 miles from the border -- 30 miles from the fifth-largest city in the United States."

Leave it to Chris Matthews to shoe-horn in a crass political point against the Tea Party, even in the midst of a heartwarming story like the rescue of the Chilean miners. On Wednesday's Hardball, the MSNBC host, along with his guest Richard Trumka, president of the AFL/CIO, claimed those miners would never have survived if they had followed the "every man for himself" philosophy of the Tea Party crowd.

After Trumka initially recounted his joy at watching the miners being rescued, he quickly veered into his standard rhetoric of the need for more regulation. Matthews then picked up on Trumka's cue to launch into an attack on the Tea Party, as he distorted their limited government view as one of total anarchy that would mean "no more government, no more everything," as seen in the following exchange:

CHRIS MATTHEWS: Okay let's talk about what the...message to a lot of the people was. The message coming out of the Tea Party people, and lot of them are good people, is every man for himself, basically. "No more taxes, no more government, no more everything. No more safety net. Sheriff’s Office Arrests Now Stand at 435 in Employer Sanction/Identity Theft Investigations

Phoenix, AZ. - Maricopa County Sheriff’s deputies conducted an early morning raid arresting 14 workers (nine male, five female) in the Office’s 39th identity theft operation.

Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio says his detectives were acting on information received from inside sources claiming the business has been knowingly hiring illegal aliens who are using false identification to work in the United States.

Today’s raid comes on the heels of a controversial court ruling in favor of those who are suing Arpaio to stop Arizona’s enforcement of SB1070.

“My job as Sheriff is to continue to enforce all the laws of this state until when and if courts rule that law enforcement authorities can no longer enforce the immigration laws enacted by this state. I will not be intimidated by the falsehoods of some racial profiling allegations or by the politicos in Washington who want to minimize this issue.”

In addition to this morning’s raid, Sheriff Arpaio’s deputies have arrested 421 employees during similar workplace investigations, all of whom were later determined to be in the United States illegally.

I LOVE this guy, I wish I had a sheriff like this! He gets it enforce the laws currently on the books and it is driving the Obamanus administration crazy!

In the developing stages now, Arpaio says, is an all volunteer posse to augment the Sheriff’s SB1070 efforts. That posse is schedule to hit the streets within the next several weeks and will concentrate solely fighting illegal immigration.

The law would require employers to check the citizenship status of their workers.

The town rejected an earlier proposal that would have forced landlords to check the status of their tenants.

The latest jobs report, which came out today, says that the economy lost 95,000 jobs in September. Each month, the country awaits improvement and each month, it is disappointed. This letter was sent to Mr. Rand who is the Executive Director of AARP.

Dear Mr. Rand,

Recently you sent us a letter encouraging us to renew our lapsed membership in AARP by the requested date. I know it is not what you were looking for, but this is the most honest response I can give you. Our gap in coverage is merely a microscopic symptom of the real problem, a deepening lack of faith.

While we have proudly maintained our membership for several years and have long admired the AARP goals and principles, regrettably, we can no longer endorse it's abdication of our values. Your letter specifically stated that we can count on AARP to speak up for our rights, yet the voice we hear is not ours. Your offer of being kept up to date on important issues through DIVIDED WE FAIL presents neither an impartial view nor the one we have come to embrace. We do believe that when two parties agree all the time on everything presented to them, one is probably not necessary. But, when the opinions and long term goals are diametrically opposed, the divorce is imminent. This is the philosophy which spawned our 200 years of government.

Once upon a time, we looked forward to being part of the senior demographic. We also looked to AARP to provide certain benefits and give our voice a power we could not possibly hope to achieve on our own. AARP gave us a sense of belonging which we no longer enjoy. The Socialist politics practiced by the Obama administration and empowered by AARP serves only to raise the blood pressure my medical insurance strives to contain. Clearly a conflict of interest there!

We do not understand the AARP posture, feel greatly betrayed by the guiding forces that we expected to map out our senior years and leave your ranks with a great sense of regret. We mitigate that disappointment with the relief of knowing that we are not contributing to the problem anymore by renewing our membership. There are numerous other organizations which offer discounts without threatening our way of life or offending our sensibilities.

This Presidential Administration scares the living daylights out of us. Not just for ourselves, but for our proud and bloodstained heritage. But even more importantly for our children and grandchildren. Washington has rendered Soylent Green a prophetic cautionary tale rather than a nonfiction scare tactic. I have never in my life endorsed any militant or radical groups, yet now I find myself listening to them. I don't have to agree with them to appreciate the fear which birthed their existence. Their borderline insanity presents little more than a balance to the voice of the Socialist mindset in power. Perhaps I became American by a great stroke of luck in some cosmic uterine lottery, but in my adulthood I CHOOSE to embrace it and nurture the freedoms it represents as well as the responsibilities it requires.

Your website generously offers us the opportunity to receive all communication in Spanish. ARE YOU KIDDING??? Someone has broken into our 'house', invaded our home without our invitation or consent. The President has insisted we keep the perpetrator in comfort and learn the perp language so we can communicate our reluctant welcome to them.

I DON'T choose to welcome them.

I DON'T choose to support them.

I DON'T choose to educate them.

I DON'T choose to medicate them, pay for their food or clothing.

Please explain to me why foreign lawbreakers can enjoy privileges on American soil that Americans do not get?

Why do some immigrants have to play the game to be welcomed and others only have to break & enter to be welcomed?

We travel for a living. Walt hauls horses all over this great country, averaging over 10,000 miles a month when he is out there. He meets more people than a politician on caffeine overdose. Of all the many good folks he enjoyed on this last 10,000 miles, this trip yielded only ONE supporter of the current administration. One of us is out of touch with mainstream America . Since our poll is conducted without funding, I have more faith in it than one which is power driven.

We have decided to forward this to everyone on our mailing list, and will encourage them to do the same. With several hundred in my address book, I have every faith that the eventual exponential factor will make a credible statement to you.

I am disappointed.

If you read the entire article you come away with more questions than answers. Like, what Marines? Does Mexico even have Marines? And, where were they migrating too? Oh, and by the way, our government trained the Zeta's. What a wonderful world we live in.

Arizona’s new law addressing illegal immigration, SB 1070, was partially struck down by a Clinton appointed justice, Susan Bolton. Both common sense and a look at our Constitution support the idea that the decision was based on politics as opposed to precedent or the Constitution itself.

The LA Times writes: (emphasis is mine)

In her 36-page decision, Bolton wrote that the provisions would have inevitably “swept up” legal immigrants and were “preempted” by the federal government’s immigration authority.

Preemption has to be based on federal authority as it pertains to immigration. Where does the federal government government get it’s authority from and what is it limited by? Specifically, the Constitution states in the tenth Amendment:

The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people.

The term immigration isn’t mentioned in the Constitution. Thus it’s clear, the states never delegated the power to regulate it. Some will argue however that under Article 1, Section 8, Congress was granted the right to regulate immigration because the states delegated the right to regulate naturalization. This is the verbiage in the Constitution regarding naturalization:

To establish an uniform Rule of Naturalization, and uniform Laws on the subject of Bankruptcies throughout the United States;

The U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Service says this about “naturalization”:

Naturalization is the process by which U.S. citizenship is granted to a foreign citizen or national after he or she fulfills the requirements established by Congress in the Immigration and Nationality Act (INA).

Merriam Webster’s Dictionary defines “naturalize” as follows:

1 : to confer the rights of a national on; especially : to admit to citizenship

Answers.com defines “immigrate” as follows:

To enter and settle in a country or region to which one is not native.

Clearly naturalization and immigration are two distinctly separate terms. One refers to the movement of people and the other refers to the process of granting citizenship. It’s also clear that Congress was delegated the power to regulate naturalization as it is clear it was never granted powers to regulate immigration. Immigration and naturalization are related terms that have totally different meanings. To “naturalize” is not synonymous with to “immigrate”.

Bolton’s argument that the Arizona law is unconstitutional based on “preemption” of Congress’ power to regulate immigration is fallacious. This is because Congress was only granted the power to regulate “naturalization”. The power to regulate immigration has always been within the purview of the states. Furthermore, those powers have never been delegated to Congress; thus Congress lacks the power to regulate immigration as per it’s Tenth Amendment.

While this administration gives lip service to the Constitution, it continues it’s assault on it and the people governed by it’s principles and laws. As usual with Obama and his minions, potential cheap votes and retaining power trump the Constitution, the best interests of the country and that of it’s citizens. The only good news here is that there are only 14 weeks before we the people can do something substantial. With all damage Obama is doing to this country at break neck speed, it is absolutely essential that he be stopped come this November. Our collective futures depend on it.

The Peruvian government declared a state of emergency because of the cold wave gripping a number of districts in 16 of the nation’s 24 regions, according to an urgent decree published Saturday in the official gazette.

The decree covers all districts of the country more than 3,000 meters (9,800 feet) above sea level, as well as three regions in the Peruvian jungle that have registered strangely low temperatures in the last few weeks.

According to official figures, so far this year at least 409 people have died of pneumonia and ailments related to the cold weather, most of them younger than 5 years old (200 deaths) and over 60 years (158 deaths).

The emergency declaration, which has a duration of 60 days, covers districts in the regions of Ancash, Apurimac, Arequipa, Ayacucho, Cusco, Huancavelica, Huanuco, Junin, Lima, Moquegua, Pasco, Puno and Tacna, which in recent days reached a temperature of -24 C (-11 F).

A state of emergency was also declared in the jungle regions of Madre de Dios, Ucayali and Loreto.

The creator of a now-defunct "Everybody Draw Muhammad Day" page on Facebook fears she may be targeted for death now that the cartoonist who launched the online campaign has been placed on an execution list by a radical Yemeni-American cleric.

The 27-year-old Facebook page creator -- a Canadian woman who asked not to be identified due to fears of reprisal -- told FoxNews.com that she was visited at her home last week by Royal Canadian Mounted Police officials who advised her to remove her page and not to talk to reporters.This was reported on July 12th and by July 16th a new terrorist was added to a terror watch list. Now, if that helps this woman or not, I have no idea because the world is so lax when it comes to war on terror.
"I'm scared," she said. "I'm scared that somebody might kill me."

The woman created her version of "Everybody Draw Muhammad" in late April, days after a Seattle cartoonist launched the online campaign to protest Comedy Central's censoring of an episode of "South Park," in which the Prophet Muhammad was depicted wearing a bear costume. The Canadian woman said she will no longer act as the administrator of such a page.

"I just want to be quiet now," she continued. "I wish I didn't do this."As part of "Inspire," a 67-page English-language Al Qaeda magazine, Yemeni-American cleric Anwar al-Awlaki -- who has been linked to the botched Times Square bombing and cited as inspiration for the Fort Hood massacre and the plot of two New Jersey men to kill U.S. soldiers -- targeted the Seattle cartoonist for "assassination," along with others who have participated in her campaign.

WASHINGTON — The United Nations has added U.S.-born radical cleric Anwar al-Awlaki to its terrorist list, requiring member countries to freeze his assets and ban his travel.

The action follows a similar move by the U.S. Treasury Department last week, and underscores the growing threat officials believe al-Awlaki represents as a terror recruiter and planner.

Based in Yemen, al-Awlaki has taken on a greater role with al-Qaida in the Arabian Peninsula, leading to his placement earlier this year on a secret U.S. government list of terror targets to be captured or killed, according to U.S. officials.

This lawsuit should fail on the grounds the Constitution does not give the power to the federal government to make immigration laws just uniform rules of naturalization, which means citizenship even in the dictionary today. If it is not specifically stated in the Constitution it is left to the States. If you do not like what the Constitution says AMEND IT!

Colorado restricts illegal immigrants from receiving in-state tuition. Nebraska requires verification of immigration status to obtain public benefits. In Tennessee, knowingly presenting a false ID card to get a job is a misdemeanor.

Arizona's strict new law has generated the most controversy, but there are hundreds of immigration-related laws on the books across the country. The laws regulate employment, law enforcement, education, benefits and healthcare.

Already, the organization says, legislators in five states — South Carolina, Pennsylvania, Minnesota, Rhode Island and Michigan — have introduced similar bills to Arizona's SB 1070, which requires police to check the immigration status of people they lawfully stop and suspect are in the country illegally. As of last month, six resolutions had been passed in five states regarding SB 1070 — four opposing it and two supporting it. The law has prompted lawsuits, protests and boycotts.

And it specifically requires the committee list the priorities for "lifestyle behavior modification" that the government will pursue.

Administration's 'Silent Raids' Lead to Firings, Not Deportations

The Obama administration’s new approach to dealing with companies that hire illegal immigrants results in firings, not deportations, the New York Times reported Friday.

Instead of immigration sweeps at factories and farms which used to lead to illegal workers being shipped out of the country, the administration’s new policy—government conducted audits labeled “silent raids” by employers—usually only result in the workers losing their jobs, the Times said.

The Times article comes just over a week after the president delivered his highly anticipated speech on immigration reform, which was criticized on both ends of the political spectrum.

In these audits, federal agents examine company records to find illegal workers on the payroll, forcing “businesses to fire every suspected illegal immigrant… not just those who happened to be on duty at the time of a raid,” the Times said. This makes it more difficult for companies to hire undocumented workers to fill these positions in the future, the article explained.

These audits reach more companies than the Bush raids, employers said. This year alone, Immigration and Customs Enforcement have facilitated the firing of thousands of immigrants and “levied a record $3 million in civil fines,” the Times reported.This current policy is a contrast to the Bush-era work-site roundups where undocumented employees were deported en masse. It also represents the current government opinion that treating the nation’s 11 million illegal immigrants as criminals would overwhelm the system.

First, every place in this article that they state "Immigrants" or "Illegal Immigrants" insert- "Illegal Aliens". Which is the legal term for non-citizens under our constitution. Second, how in all that is holy does this help? Where will all these displaced workers go, pray-tell? And how much money were the companies fined? Can they stay in business as a result? Don't get me wrong, I hate companies that hire illegal alien invaders, especially when there are so many Americans are out of work. But, useless raids that waste tax payer dollars and put non-citizens on unemployment is ludicrous. Cause you know that is where they are ending up. And by the by, every time a business is raided and the Illegals are ousted, Americans take the jobs that Americans do not want. Brilliant!

Mainstream Media Coverage Slim on NASA, Black Panther Stories

Charles Bolden's claim that one of the space agency's primary missions is to improve relations with Muslim countries. The other is the ongoing investigation into why the Justice Department dropped its case against New Black Panther Party members accused of intimidating voters on Election Day 2008.

"The media don't have any credibility when they don't cover the big stories," said Dan Gainor, vice president for business and culture at the conservative Media Research Center. Gainor suggested both stories appear to have all the makings of news value.

Then there is this story they are not talking about.
In the New Black Panther case, the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights is a year into its investigation and on Tuesday heard groundbreaking testimony from a former official who claims the Justice Department dropped it in part because it refuses to go after black defendants in civil rights cases.

Only a few national media outlets reported the NASA story. They included CNN and Slate -- and little else. The three broadcast networks' nightly news programs did not mention the controversy, though ABC News did run a blog on the White House response. The New York Times and Washington Post also did not carry any straight news piece on the subject. The Washington Post website, though, did carry a blurb online that linked to a FoxNews.com piece as well as an opinion blog on Wednesday. The Los Angeles Times carried a blog on Thursday, comparing the lack of media response to Wile E. Coyote waiting for his rocket pack to go off. "Silence. Nothing," the piece said.

The Black Panther coverage was a bit more robust. The New York Times covered J. Christian Adams' testimony on Tuesday, as did CNN, and The Los Angeles Times noted it briefly. The Philadelphia Inquirer provided significant coverage of the developments -- the alleged voter intimidation occurred in Philadelphia. The Associated Press ran a story on July 1 before the testimony.

The three nightly network news programs did not run the story. The Washington Post did not provide any original coverage -- it ran the July 1 Associated Press story and provided one paragraph on the case Wednesday online with a link to The Times story.

I am also finding it harder and harder to find positive news to report on our radio show. Is there anybody out there????

As the nation prepares to celebrate Independence Day with parades and barbecues, America’s veterans face a new tax on prosthetic limbs and other vital medical devices.

The health care overhaul passed by Congress and signed into law by President Obama earlier this year contains a new tax on medical devices such as prosthetic limbs, pacemakers, and wheelchairs. This tax, which its proponents claim will raise $20 billion over the next ten years, contains no exemption for the nation’s 22 million veterans. In fact, Senate Democrats specifically refused to exempt veterans from the tax.

On March 24 2010, Senate Democrats rejected an amendment offered by Senator Orrin Hatch (R-Utah) to the healthcare bill. This amendment (SA 3644) would have prevented the medical device tax from hitting veterans covered by the Veterans Healthcare Program or TRICARE for Life. This amendment was rejected by a vote of 44-54. All but five Democrat senators voted in favor of retaining the tax for veterans.

The medical device tax was one of over twenty new or higher taxes in President Barack Obama’s healthcare overhaul. This permanent new tax is being collected now.

“On March 24, Senate Democrats had the opportunity to exempt our veterans from Obamacare’s new tax on medical devices such as prosthetic limbs. But 54 Democrats voted against the measure. They chose to side with the tax-and-spend crowd in Washington over our wounded warriors,”said Grover Norquist, president of Americans for Tax Reform. “This is one of the many reasons Harry Reid and the Democrats did not want Americans to read the 2,500 page health care bill before it was passed.”

In just six months, the largest tax hikes in the history of America will take effect. They will hit families and small businesses in three great waves on January 1, 2011:

First Wave: Expiration of 2001 and 2003 Tax Relief

In 2001 and 2003, the GOP Congress enacted several tax cuts for investors, small business owners, and families. These will all expire on January 1, 2011:

Personal income tax rates will rise. The top income tax rate will rise from 35 to 39.6 percent (this is also the rate at which two-thirds of small business profits are taxed). The lowest rate will rise from 10 to 15 percent. All the rates in between will also rise. Itemized deductions and personal exemptions will again phase out, which has the same mathematical effect as higher marginal tax rates. The full list of marginal rate hikes is below:

- The 10% bracket rises to an expanded 15%

Pestiferous President to Pitch Amnesty Thursday Morning « Coalition Against Illegal Immigration

The post-… partisan, racial, American (take your pick) President will be giving a “major” teleprompter reading Thursday morning. TOTUS will be helping the man who can read like few others attempt to sell poison to the populace. The poison will, of course, be presented as a necessary cure. This should not pose much of a challenge for the presidential teleprompter, which seems to be the only thing in this administration that works well. The source of all the President’s orations is well-practiced at putting a bow on a pile of equine fecal matter and making it appealing to a majority of the electorate.
This particular “major” reading is purely political and aimed at paying off one specific group of supporters. This group among whose leadership includes the detestable Rep. Luis Gutierrez (D-La Raza), is none other than the ‘open borders’, ‘amnesty for illegals’, ‘what can American citizens give you?’ group.

It is noble of President Obama to take time from his golfing schedule to address his subjects on one of his many harmful goals. The need for urgent amnesty is so great, the President has decided to give a “major” reading when he could be otherwise occupied blocking the oil clean up or trying to convince Europe that his new economic way (their old economic way) is the best economic way.

Homeschoolers alarmed by Kagan nomination

This is a very revealing article about this particular nomination for SCOTUS. First there is this:

Supreme Court nominee Elena Kagan's press for considering international law as "the context" for interpreting U.S. law has incited worries her appointment could pave the way for world treaties that threaten both parental rights and homeschooling in the United States.
A statement from the Home School Legal Defense Association points to Kagan's decision as dean of Harvard Law School to require first-year students to study international law:

"From the start, students should learn to locate what they are learning about public and private law in the United States within the context of a larger universe," reads a letter from Kagan and Harvard's Curricular Innovations Committee advocating the requirement. "Specifically, we recommend the development of three foundation courses … each of which represents a door into the global sphere that students will use as context for U.S. law."

A larger universe! A larger universe! You have got to be kidding me, right? I'll acknowledge a "larger universe" when the "universe" adopts the Constitution of these United States, Ms. Kagan. Then there is this:
Prof. Rabkin's report also points out Kagan's choice of Chief Justice Aharon Barak of the Israel Supreme Court as her "judicial hero," calling him "the judge who has best advanced democracy, human rights, the rule of law and justice."

"Justice Barak was certainly a jurist of remarkable confidence – he makes activist judges in America look timid by comparison," objects Rabkin. "He was known for filling gaps by invoking standards from other countries – so much so that he made it a practice to hire at least one clerk each year from a foreign country (that is, a clerk whose legal training had been acquired in a foreign country rather than in Israel). … Senators should ask Elena Kagan, which practices of Chief Justice Barak does she think American judges would do well to emulate?"

Do you think any of our elected cockroaches on either side of the isle will ask that question? Will they have the guts to ask any tough question? I doubt it. And by the way, "human rights" are granted by governments, "unalienable" rights are granted by God. I would rather my rights come from the Creator, Ms. Kagan.

The MMR Vaccine vs Autism

This topic has been an ongoing controversy since 1998, when a paper by Andrew Wakefield, was published by “The Lancent”.

“Twelve children with developmental disorders referred to the Royal Free Hospital in London. The paper described a collection of bowel symptoms said to be evidence of a possible novel syndrome that Wakefield would later call autistic enterocolitis, and recommended further study into the possible link between the condition and environmental triggers, such as the MMR vaccine.”(1)

Since then, there has been a fierce battle between the medical community, vaccine providers, parents and governments all across the globe. The data on this matter is so vast and so involved that the average parent cannot make an informed decision on whether to subject their child to this vaccine or not. And I, unfortunately, may not help as well. But let’s try and muddle through, starting with the birth and reasons for this vaccine.

The first measles vaccine was licensed for use in the U.S. in 1963. Today, measles vaccine is generally given in combination with mumps and rubella vaccines (MMR) or MMR combined with varicella (MMRV).

Originally, just one dose of MMR vaccine was recommended, and about 90-95% of children were protected. In 1989, the American Academy of Family Physicians, the American Academy of Pediatrics, and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices changed the recommendation to two doses so that almost all children (99.7%) would be protected.(2)

Some of the complications of measles include; infections of the middle ear, pneumonia, croup, diarrhea, and Measles encephalitis (an infection of the brain) which occurs in 1 per 1,000 cases of natural measles, frequently resulting in permanent brain damage in the survivors.(2) You can see how serious this condition can be.

Since I was born just before 1963, I had to get my vaccine when I was a toddler. The recommendation for administering the vaccine is all infants 12 years old and older, and Autism is not diagnosed until after age two. An interesting time line if you are looking for a link between the MMR vaccine and Autism.

Now, I am not advocating that parents refrain from having their children vaccinated. I am just informing and letting you decide.
The prevailing medical thought is that the risks out way the side effects of any vaccine including the MMR vaccine. Measles used to be a serious problem in this country with most people getting the disease by the time they were 20 yrs of age. Now, due to the vaccine, the incident of measles in the United States is virtually zero. Measles is imported from other countries however. Begging the question, do we continue to be vigilant and keep requiring the vaccine or not?

Some of the complications of measles include; infections of the middle ear, pneumonia, croup, diarrhea, Measles encephalitis (an infection of the brain) which occurs in 1 per 1,000 cases of natural measles, frequently resulting in permanent brain damage in the survivors.(2) You can see how serious this condition can be.

Unfortunately, study after study, from many countries and agencies conflict in their conclusions and contradict each other. But if I had to make this decision for my child, I would muddle through them. I also suggest visiting the Autism support sites. Knowledge is power, and with a decision as important as whether to vaccinate your child or not requires a lot of knowledge.

An unexpected result for some census takers: the wrath of irate Americans

People are really pissed at the government right now and I know that most of us out there would not do these things to the census takers. What's not being reported in this WAPO article is how did the census takers act toward the people they were trying to get the information from? What were they told to do when someone resisted taking the census? During their training, how far outside the law were they told to go? Folks, government is not listening to us, "We The People", right now. They are doing what ever they want to us. No, not "for us", "to us", so who's to say that these census takers were told, "not to take "no" for and answer?" We may never know.

This is the scary season for the nation's census takers.
Since they began making follow-up house calls in early May, census takers have encountered vitriol, menace and flashes of violence. They have been shot at with pellet guns and hit by baseball bats. They have been confronted with pickaxes, crossbows and hammers. They've had lawn mowers pushed menacingly toward them and patio tables thrown their way. They have been nibbled by ducks, bitten by pit bulls and chased by packs of snarling dogs.
Some days, being cursed at seems part of the job description.
So far, the Census Bureau has tallied 379 incidents involving assaults or threats on the nation's 635,000 census workers, more than double the 181 recorded during the 2000 census. Weapons were used or threatened in a third of the cases.
Now, with just three weeks to go in the door-knocking phase of the count, the number of census takers has dwindled, and the remaining households are the toughest.
While most homeowners have received census takers graciously, some say they have been surprised at the degree of anger exhibited by Americans who consider them the embodiment of intrusive government.
"I came across loads of hostility," said Douglas McDonald, who summoned police in Deltona, Fla., after a tug-of-war with an irate homeowner over a census form. The homeowner threw his ripped half in the toilet.
McDonald, 70, a District native who retired from the Labor Department after 30 years as an investigator, said he wasn't prepared for the level of anti-government fervor he encountered.
"There's so much anger and bitterness, with people losing their homes and their jobs," said McDonald, who eventually quit. "They're not too fond of the government. They don't want to talk to you."

If the figures are calculated in inflation-adjusted, constant price terms, then I HS believes that the US will keep its top role in manufacturing for a little longer.
On an inflation-adjusted basis, which is based on a forecast that US inflation will be lower than that in China over the next few years, China is forecast to take over the number one position in manufacturing in 2013-14.
According to the IHS numbers, world manufacturing output last year came to $8,638bn (€6,979bn, £5,825bn) or 16.7 per cent of global gross domestic product.

Her hair was up in a pony tail, her favorite dress tied with a bow.
Today was Daddy's Day at school, and she couldn't wait to go.
But her mommy tried to tell her, that she probably should stay home.
Why the kids might not understand, if she went to school alone.
But she was not afraid; she knew just what to say.
What to tell her classmates of why he wasn't there today.

But still her mother worried, for her to face this day alone.
And that was why once again, she tried to keep her daughter home.
But the little girl went to school eager to tell them all.
About a dad she never sees, a dad who never calls.

There were daddies along the wall in back, for everyone to meet.
Children squirming impatiently, anxious in their seatsOne by one the teacher called a student from the class.
To introduce their daddy,as seconds slowly passed.

At last the teacher called her name, every child turned to stare.
Each of them was searching, a man who wasn't there.
Where's her daddy at?' She heard a boy call out.
'She probably doesn't have one,' another student dared to shout.

And from somewhere near the back, she heard a daddy say,
'Looks like another deadbeat dad, too busy to waste his day.'
The words did not offend her, as she smiled up at her Mom.
And looked back at her teacher, who told her to go on.
And with hands behind her back, slowly she began to speak.
And out from the mouth of a child, came words incredibly unique.

'My Daddy couldn't be here, because he lives so far away.
But I know he wishes he could be, since this is such a special day.
And though you cannot meet him, I wanted you to know.
All about my daddy, and how much he loves me so.
He loved to tell me stories, he taught me to ride my bike.
He surprised me with pink roses and taught me to fly a kite.
We used to share fudge sundaes and ice cream in a cone.
And though you cannot see him, I'm not standing here alone.

'Cause my daddy's always with me, even though we are apart
I know because he told me, he'll forever be in my heart'.
And with that, her little hand reached up, and lay across her chest.
Feeling her own heartbeat, beneath her favorite dress.

And from somewhere here in the crowd of dads, her mother stood in tears.
Proudly watching her daughter, who was wise beyond her years.
For she stood up for the love of a man not in her life.
Doing what was best for her, doing what was right.
And when she dropped her hand back down, staring straight into the crowd, she finished with a voice so soft, but its message was clear and loud.

'I love my daddy very much, he's my shining star.
And if he could, he'd be here, but heaven's just too far.
You see he is a Marine and died just this past year, when a roadside bomb hit his convoy and taught Americans to fear.
But sometimes when I close my eyes, it's like he never went away.'
And then she closed her eyes and saw him there that day.

And to her mothers amazement, she witnessed with surprise.
A room full of daddies and children, all starting to close their eyes.
Who knows what they saw before them, who knows what they felt inside.
Perhaps for merely a second, they saw him at her side.

'I know you're with me Daddy, 'to the silence she called out.
And what happened next made believers, of those once filled with doubt.
Not one in that room could explain it, for each of their eyes had been closed.
But there on the desk beside her, was a fragrant long-stemmed pink rose.

And a child was blessed, if only for a moment, by the love of her shining star. And given the gift of believing, that heaven is never too far.

The Arizona Immigration Law is absolutelly Legal

I am so tired of the Central Government abusing the constitution. I love the Republic that our founders gave us, unfortunately I cannot see much of the Republic left.

article I s.8 only gives the central government the right to create uniform rules of naturalization, meaning rules of becoming a citizen. This was added because under the articles of confederation every state had their own rules of becoming a citizen and all had to respect citizenship from all states.

Oh, the supremacy clause only applies to laws made pursuant to the Constitution. This means if the Federal Govt. makes a law that is not in line with the powers directly given to them in the Constitution by the states it is unlawful.

The Constitution does not live or breathe, it is carved in stone and we must go back to the original intent of those who debated and created it.

The Constitution is the solutiion! The parties are the problem...

Politico's Roger Simon: Obama 'Calling Out' Bobby Jindal's 'Hypocrisy'

Appearing on MSNBC's Andrea Mitchell Reports on Tuesday, Politico columnist Roger Simon described a recent interview with President Obama: "...he showed a genuine irritation....when people like Bobby Jindal, you know, standing up, screaming about more federal action...a small-government, no federal aid kind of guy. And the President is calling out those people for hypocrisy."
Simon was discussing a quote from Obama in that interview, in which the President whined: "Some of the same folks who have been hollering and saying do something are the same folks who, just two or three months ago, were suggesting that government needs to stop doing so much." Apparently, asking the federal government to do its job in a national emergency but not take over people's health care is the liberal definition of hypocrisy

I agree, the government is doing everything it's not supposed to do and not doing what they are supposed to do as per the Constitution. Poor Mr.President, he finally has to act like a President not just a community organizer. I frankly do not think he is up to the task. Congrats America, on your choice during the 2008 Presidential elections.

10,000' throng to stop Ground Zero mosque

As many as 10,000 protesters from across the country – including family members who lost loved ones on Sept. 11, 2001 – took to the streets in New York City Sunday to fight construction of a 13-story Islamic mosque to be built just steps from Ground Zero where Muslim terrorists murdered 2,751 people in the name of Allah.

Robert Spencer who helped set this up had this to say:
Spencer said despite the crowd's size and the presence of media outlets from around the world, the U.S. mainstream media failed to show."ABC? NBC? CBS? CNN? Even FOX?" he wrote. "AWOL."

And where did they get the money to buy this plot of land that used to be a Burlington Coat Factory?
The building was purchased last July by real-estate company Soho Properties, a business run by Muslims. Imam Feisal Abdul Rauf, Kuwait-born founder of ASMA, was an investor in that transaction. Pajamas Media reporter Alyssa Lappen noted that Rauf's father was Mohammed Abdul Rauf (1917-2004), an Egyptian contemporary of Hassan al-Banna, founder of Muslim Brotherhood – parent organization of al-Qaida, Hamas and other front-line terror groups.

Flag Vandalism Mars Memorial Day in Several States

Screw the local police, I'm calling on "we the people" to find out who did this. My husband wants to know why the FBI is not looking into this. Since it happened across state lines they have jurisdiction. But they are probably too busy going after militia's and any law enforcement that are pulling over Illegal Aliens in Arizona.

How to fold the flag of the United States of America:
Fold the flag in half width-wise twice. Fold up a triangle, starting at the striped end … and repeat … until only the end of the union is exposed. Then fold down the square into a triangle and tuck inside the folds.

It is the universal custom to display the flag only from sunrise to sunset on buildings and on stationary flagstaffs in the open. However, when a patriotic effect is desired, the flag may be displayed twenty-four hours a day if properly illuminated during the hours of darkness.

The flag should be displayed during school days in or near every schoolhouse.

The flag should not be displayed on a float in a parade except from a staff.

The flag should not be draped over the hood, top, sides, or back of a vehicle or of a railroad train or a boat. When the flag is displayed on a motorcar, the staff shall be fixed firmly to the chassis or clamped to the right fender.

No other flag or pennant should be placed above or, if on the same level, to the right of the flag of the United States of America, except during church services conducted by naval chaplains at sea, when the church pennant may be flown above the flag during church services for the personnel of the Navy.

The flag of the United States of America, when it is displayed with another flag against a wall from crossed staffs, should be on the right, the flag’s own right, and its staff should be in front of the staff of the other flag.

The flag of the United States of America should be at the center and at the highest point of the group when a number of flags of States or localities or pennants of societies are grouped and displayed from staffs.

When flags of States, cities, or localities, or pennants of societies are flown on the same halyard with the flag of the United States, the latter should always be at the peak. When the flags are flown from adjacent staffs, the flag of the United States should be hoisted first and lowered last. No such flag or pennant may be placed above the flag of the United States or to the United States flag’s right.

When flags of two or more nations are displayed, they are to be flown from separate staffs of the same height. The flags should be of approximately equal size. International usage forbids the display of the flag of one nation above that of another nation in time of peace.

The flag, when flown at half-staff, should be first hoisted to the peak for an instant and then lowered to the half-staff position. The flag should be again raised to the peak before it is lowered for the day.

On Memorial Day the flag should be displayed at half-staff until noon only, then raised to the top of the staff.
By order of the President, the flag shall be flown at half-staff upon the death of principal figures of the United States Government and the Governor of a State, territory or possession, as a mark of respect to their memory.
In the event of the death of other officials or foreign dignitaries, the flag is to be displayed at half-staff according to Presidential instructions or orders, or in accordance with recognized customs or practices not inconsistent with law.
In the event of the death of a present or former official of the government of any State, territory, or possession of the United States, the Governor of that State, territory, or possession may proclaim that the National flag shall be flown at half-staff.
The flag shall be flown at half-staff thirty days from the death of the President or a former President;
ten days from the day of death of the Vice President, the Chief Justice or a retired Chief Justice of the United States, or the Speaker of the House of Representatives;
from the day of death until interment of an Associate Justice of the Supreme Court, a Secretary of an executive or military department, a former Vice President, or the Governor of a State, territory, or possession;
and on the day of death and the following day for a Member of Congress.

When the flag is suspended across a corridor or lobby in a building with only one main entrance, it should be suspended vertically with the union of the flag to the observer’s left upon entering.

If the building has more than one main entrance, the flag should be suspended vertically near the center of the corridor or lobby with the union to the north,

when entrances are to the east and west or to the east when entrances are to the north and south. If there are entrances in more than two directions, the union should be to the east.

Sec. 4.
That no disrespect should be shown to the flag of the United States of America — the flag should not be dipped to any person or thing. Regimental colors, State flags, and organization or institutional flags are to be dipped as a mark of honor.

The flag should never be displayed with the union down, except as a signal of dire distress in instances of extreme danger to life or property.
The flag should never touch anything beneath it, such as the ground, the floor, water, or merchandise.
The flag should never be carried flat or horizontally, but always aloft and free.
The flag should never be used as wearing apparel, bedding, or drapery. It should never be festooned, drawn back, nor up, in folds, but always allowed to fall free. Bunting of blue, white and red, always arranged with the blue above, the white in the middle, and the red below, should be used for covering a speaker’s desk, draping the front of the platform, and for decoration in general.
The flag should never be fastened, displayed, used, or stored in such a manner as to permit it to be easily torn, soiled, or damaged in any way.
The flag should never be used as a covering for a ceiling.
The flag should never have placed upon it, nor on any part of it, nor attached to it any mark, insignia, letter, word, figure, design, picture, or drawing of any nature.
The flag should never be used as a receptacle for receiving, holding, carrying, or delivering anything.
The flag should never be used for advertising purposes in any manner whatsoever. It should not be embroidered on such articles as cushions or handkerchiefs and the like, printed or otherwise impressed on paper napkins or boxes or anything that is designed for temporary use and discard. Advertising signs should not be fastened to a staff or halyard from which the flag is flown.
No part of the flag should ever be used as a costume or athletic uniform. However, a flag patch may be affixed to the uniform of military personnel, firemen, policemen, and members of patriotic organizations. The flag represents a living country and is itself considered a living thing. Therefore, the lapel flag pin being a replica, should be worn on the left lapel near the heart.
The flag, when it is in such condition that it is no longer a fitting emblem for display, should be destroyed in a dignified way, preferably by burning.

Sec. 6.
During rendition of the national anthem when the flag is displayed, all present except those in uniform should stand at attention facing the flag with the right hand over the heart. Men not in uniform should remove their headdress with their right hand and hold it at the left shoulder, the hand being over the heart. Persons in uniform should render the military salute at the first note of the anthem and retain this position until the last note. When the flag is not displayed, those present should face toward the music and act in the same manner they would if the flag were displayed there.

The same applies to the Pledge of Allegiance.

The economic case for global action to stop the destruction of the natural world is even more powerful than the argument for tackling climate change, a major report for the United Nations will declare this summer.

The Stern report on climate change, which was prepared for the UK Treasury and published in 2007, famously claimed that the cost of limiting climate change would be around 1%-2% of annual global wealth, but the longer-term economic benefits would be 5-20 times that figure.

The UN's biodiversity report – dubbed the Stern for Nature – is expected to say that the value of saving "natural goods and services", such as pollination, medicines, fertile soils, clean air and water, will be even higher – between 10 and 100 times the cost of saving the habitats and species which provide them.

To mark the UN's International Day for Biological Diversity tomorrow, hundreds of British companies, charities and other organisations have backed an open letter from the Natural History Museum's director Michael Dixon warning that "the diversity of life, so crucial to our security, health, wealth and wellbeing is being eroded".

The UN report's authors go further with their warning on biodiversity, by saying if the goods and services provided by the natural world are not valued and factored into the global economic system, the environment will become more fragile and less resilient to shocks, risking human lives, livelihoods and the global economy.

"We need a sea-change in human thinking and attitudes towards nature: not as something to be vanquished, conquered, but rather something to be cherished and lived within," said the report's author, the economist Pavan Sukhdev.

NEW YORK – In her undergraduate thesis at Princeton, President Obama's nominee for the Supreme Court, Elena Kagan, lamented the decline of socialism in the country as "sad" for those who still hope to "change America." Titled "To the Final Conflict: Socialism in New York City, 1900-1933," Kagan opined that infighting caused the decline of the early socialist movement. She asked why the "greatness" of socialism was not reemerging as a major political force.
"In our own times, a coherent socialist movement is nowhere to be found in the United States. Americans are more likely to speak of a golden past than of a golden future, of capitalism's glories than of socialism's greatness," wrote Kagan, Obama's solicitor general.
"Why, in a society by no means perfect, has a radical party never attained the status of a major political force? Why, in particular, did the socialist movement never become an alternative to the nation's established parties?" she asked.

Craigslist diamond ad leads to deadly home invasion, police say

This story is old, I know, but I wasn't sure if I should post it because it is truly an awful story, and this poor family is probably going through hell right now. Having said that, it needs to be reported because we live in such a digital world that we have to be very careful what we reveal about ourselves over the airwaves.

Four suspects have been charged with first-degree murder in connection with a home invasion that began with an ad on Craigslist, Washington state authorities said Friday.

Three of the suspects were arrested on May 1. A fourth suspect, Clabon Terrel Berniard, 23, turned himself in Thursday, police said. Berniard and the others are accused of killing a man on April 28 in Edgewood, a city outside Tacoma. They are charged with first-degree murder, robbery and assault.

The case began when James Sanders and his wife posted an ad on Craigslist offering a diamond ring for $1,050, said Pierce County Prosecutor Mark Lindquist. Sanders arranged to meet prospective buyers of the ring at the family's home, the prosecutor said.

"Two people show up and act like a couple looking for a ring for the mother-in-law," Lindquist said. But once they entered the house, he said, the man posing as the husband pulled out a handgun.

I'm just glad they caught the bastards. What is with Craigslist anyway? No one has gotten killed or raped from posting on E-Bay. My husband says that's because no one gives out their address on E-Bay. But they have to give an address in order to receive the merchandise, right? I don't know because, I've never used the service.

The original "Everybody Draw Mohammed Day!" Facebook page -- with more than 80,000 followers -- vanished briefly from the website Thursday, causing some users to accuse the social networking giant of censorship before the controversial page reappeared on the site.

Facebook officials said a "small technical issue" prevented users from accessing the page for a "very short period" of time.

"Once alerted to the problem, we resolved it as quickly as possible," the company said in a statement to FoxNews.com. "We want Facebook to be a place where people can openly discuss issues and express their views, while respecting the rights and feelings of others."

If this was communist China, or Islamic Iran this story would never have gotten out to the general population. And Facebook probably would have blocked the page from the get go. Thank God we live in The United States Of America, where we still have freedom of speech, for now anyway. Then again, it has brought attention to the horrible practices of the school and what they are doing to our children. So, that is a good thing. Stern's Possible SEIU Successor Could Make Union Peace Elusive

I really hope that the unions in this country will be eating their own. I worked in a state as a Nurse that was a "right to work, state", meaning, union and non-union workers can work side by side. And unions/union shops/construction companies were not allowed to stop non-union companies from placing bids on projects. What the unions do not like about that is: drum roll please----it makes them less competitive. See, unions have to adhere to the salaries and benefits that they promised to each member of the union across the board, regardless of the individual employees experience or productivity. Non-union companies can take both experience and productivity into account when negotiating salaries and benefits, making the non-union companies and services more competitive. Unions need to go.

Stern is leaving the SEIU as leadership is locked in battle with two other unions -- hospitality industry union Unite Here and a breakaway local out of San Francisco. The fights are draining the union coffers, but Burger would seem unlikely to seek a diplomatic solution.

Stern's fights are her fights, and Stern's enemies are her enemies. Soon after Stern's departure became public, the president of the breakaway National Union of Healthcare Workers made clear that Burger will not be able to make amends with his group.

"His likely successors, Mary Kay Henry and Anna Burger, have been tarred by the same ethics scandals and failed policies that marred his tenure," Sal Rosselli said in a written statement.

Mary Kay Henry is another top SEIU official who could launch a bid to take Stern's place -- Stern selected Burger on an interim basis, but Burger will have to run if she wants to keep the job.

In the fight with Unite Here -- which represents workers in retail, hotels, restaurants, casinos and other sectors -- a chunk of the union's membership peeled off to form a new union affiliated with the SEIU a year ago. Original members accused Stern of facilitating the split, and the two sides have been battling ever since over their bank account.

"Now that health-care reform has been signed into law, the question people ask most is, 'What do we do about it?'" said Michael Boldin, founder of the Tenth Amendment Center, in a statement. "The status-quo response includes lobbying Congress, marching on D.C., 'voting the bums out,' suing in federal court and more. But the last 100 years have proven that none of these really work, and government continues to grow year in and year out."

Instead, the Center is reaching back into the history books to suggest states take up "nullification," a controversial measure that would essentially involve states saying to the federal government, "Not in our borders, you don't. That law has no effect here."

Armstrong and other astronauts expressed concerns over the past few days that scrapping the moon program would have deep consequences in terms of America's standing in the world. They wrote an open letter to Obama voicing their concerns.
Apollo 13 astronaut Jim Lovell, who signed the letter with Armstrong, told Fox News he believes Obama's plan is "short-sighted."
"We're going to be a third-rate nation. China and Russia are going to be premier," he said.
This is a profoundly bad and dangerous idea. China and Russia are not our friends, they never have been and never will be. But the Obama administration knows this, as have every administration before him. I am very afraid for this country.

Norton, the District of Columbia House Voting Rights Act of 2009
(H.R. 157) would establish full
House of
Representatives voting rights for the District of Columbia while adding
an additional seat to Utah, a traditionally Republican
stronghold and the next state in line to pick up a Congressional seat
in reapportionment. However, there is one minor problem: D.C. is
NOT a congressional district or a
state!

The D.C. House Voting
Rights Act aims to
accomplish the following:

Subvert the District Clause of the U.S.
Constitution - Article I, Section 8, clause 17 - which
makes clear that D.C. is a federal city, not a state, with final
governing authority resting with Congress. The U.S. Constitution states
that the House shall be composed of "Members chosen...by the People of
the several States," not delegates representing non-state territories.

Silence critics of D.C. voting rights by
buying them off with a "sure Republican" seat because they know the
D.C. seat will be a solid Democrat. In the last 12 elections since
D.C. was granted the right to cast presidential electoral votes, it
has never cast less than 74.8 percent of its popular vote for the
Democratic presidential candidate. This move is simply a partisan
trade-off by the congressional liberal Majority wanting to add a
permanent Democrat vote to their tallies.

Bribe Republicans to favor the idea by
including a provision to increase the number of House Members from 435
to 437 and give the extra Representative to Utah.

Lay the initial groundwork for achieving
the ultimate goal of establishing two permanent Democrat Senate seats for the
District. If the initial inclination is for DC to be "considered a
Congressional district for purposes of representation in the House of
Representatives," then the idea for DC to be "considered a state for the purposes of
representation in the U.S. Senate," will not be far down the road.

Simply introducing a bill such as this is
unconstitutional! DC cannot be "treated as though it were a
congressional district," unless it were formally made a congressional
district via a constitutional amendment, which would require a
two-thirds majority in both houses of Congress as well as three-fourths
of the states to ratify it.

This is nothing new from the Left.
Congressional liberals have been trying to grant full voting rights to
the District of Columbia since the 1980s. The maiden attempt to amend
the U.S. Constitution through the "D.C. Representation" Amendment was
unsuccessful, after it passed Congress but was rejected by the American
people and died on August 22, 1985 after a decisive majority of 34 of
the 50 states refused to ratify it. Now, Members of Congress are
attempting to forgo the constitutional process and slip one past the
American people in order to accommodate their political agenda!

Remember, the Senate passed its version of
the DC Voting bill (S. 160) by a vote of 61 to 37 (Roll
Call 73) in February 2009. However, that bill
stalled in the House because it contained a Senate Republican-offered amendment which repealed
strict DC gun
laws. Although the language of H.R. 157 has not yet been made public,
the bill is expected to contain either the same or similar gun
provisions, and although many House liberals favor DC gun control laws,
it is likely that the liberal House leadership
will approach this legislation in much the same way it did Obamacare: Pass it now, fix it later.

TAKE
ACTION!

The House is scheduled to vote on H.R. 157 on Thursday,
April 22, 2010! Please call and email your representatives
and tell them to vote NO on this unconstitutional bill!

Be sure to focus your calls on Republicans
and Democrats alike, as various Republican "moderates" have been known
to support this attempted scheme in the past and some Democrat
"moderates" have opposed it.
