Official says China to continue buying US debt and calls for new reserve currency

Susan here: China wants Globalization,hum, one must wonder why. There is a reason it's called the People's Bank Of China. China is still a Communist country regardless if they make stuff we buy. It scares the crap out of me that so much of our debt is held by China.

China will continue buying U.S. government debt while paying close attention to possible fluctuations in the value of those assets, a vice governor of Beijing's central bank said Monday.

Investing in U.S. Treasury bills is "an important component part of China's foreign currency reserve investments," People's Bank of China Vice Governor Hu Xiaolian said at a news conference on Monday.

"So as an important component we are naturally relatively concerned with the safety and profitability of U.S. government bonds," Hu said — a statement apparently aimed at concerns that rising debt to fund Washington's stimulus package could spur inflation and weaken the dollar.

China is Washington's biggest foreign creditor, holding an estimated $1 trillion in U.S. government debt. A weaker dollar would erode the value of those assets.

Hu's comments follow remarks earlier this month from Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao that he was "a little bit worried" about China's holdings of U.S. government debt. Wen called on the U.S. to honor its commitments, remain credit-worthy, and ensure the safety of Chinese assets.

So they want more of our debt, which is going to increase with the implementation of the "stimulus bill", but they are worried about their assets. No government does anything out "of the goodness of their heart". So keeping that concept in mind. China today, releases this:

China’s central bank on Monday proposed replacing the US dollar as the international reserve currency with a new global system controlled by the International Monetary Fund.

In an essay posted on the People’s Bank of China’s website, Zhou Xiaochuan, the central bank’s governor, said the goal would be to create a reserve currency “that is disconnected from individual nations and is able to remain stable in the long run, thus removing the inherent deficiencies caused by using credit-based national
currencies”

Cute Huh, hold on to your hats ya'll this is going to be a bumpy ride.

George Stephanopoulos: ABC’s In-House Spin Doctor

Mr. Stephanopoulos will contribute to various programs, but at the outset he will appear most often as a political analyst on This Week, the Sunday morning news program with Cokie Roberts and Sam Donaldson as co-hosts. Eventually Mr. Stephanopoulos is expected to do some reporting as a correspondent, the network said.

Susan here again. We need to know where all these people come from. Full disclosure. Something the left wing psyco commies scream for and never deliver themselves. This is very important folks, because how can you make an informed decision about who you will listen to, who you can believe is telling the truth or who you vote for if you don't have all the facts. CNSNews.com VA Hospital Pulls 'Japs Surrender' Headline from Historical Display

The director of the VA hospital in Indianapolis has removed a World War II-era newspaper front page from a historical display at the hospital because it contains the headline, “Japs Surrender.”

The hospital has replaced it with another newspaper, whose headline says “Peace.”

Linda Jeffrey, the public affairs officer at the Roudebush VA Medical Center in Indianapolis, explained the action.

“We have a hallway in our outpatient clinics that has a lot of different military memorabilia--artifacts if you will. Some of them are newspaper ads--Buy Bonds!’--and things like that. This particular artifact was an original newspaper story from the Indianapolis Times, dated Aug. 14, 1945,” Jeffrey told CNSNews.com.

The item had been on display for 10 years, she said, until a month ago.

“One of our new employees contacted the director, Tom Mattice, and told him that particular military memorabilia was particularly offensive to people of Japanese origin. So our director asked that we take it down,” Jeffrey added.

Local Marine Corps veterans were outraged.

Indiana vet Bud Albright told CNSNews.com that the removal is offensive to those who fought against the Japanese in defense of American freedom.

“A large majority of the veterans feel it was an insult to them and the people that died during that war,” Albright told CNSNews.com.

No kidding they are outraged. Look, the Japanese attack us. Japanese ambassadors where in the United States trying to negotiate with us when the attack happened. That's one of the reasons they were called "yellow devils". Oh no, is this blog going to be erased now. :) Anyho, get over yourselves minorities. And here's a thought. You should all be Americans now, no matter where your parents and grandparents came from. So, in essence you were attacked also. Ponder that one a while.

Gates: Military can help Mexico in drug war

The U.S. military is in a better position to provide Mexico's military with training, resources and intelligence as its southern neighbor battles deadly drug cartels, Defense Secretary Robert Gates said.

More than a thousand people have been killed in Mexico in drug-related violence this year. In 2008 the toll doubled from the previous year to 6,290. Both the United States and Canada have warned that murders related to drug activity in certain parts of Mexico, particularly along the border with the United States, raised the level of risk in visiting the country.

"I think we are beginning to be in a position to help the Mexicans more than we have in the past. Some of the old biases against cooperation with our -- between our militaries and so on, I think, are being set aside," Mr. Gates said in an interview aired Sunday on NBC's "Meet the Press."

Chaos erupts in crowd at NYC 'Top Model' auditions

Ok, this is just insanity, this is just the measure of our country's morality or lack there of:

Three people were arrested and six others hurt Saturday after bedlam broke out while they waited to audition for "America's Next Top Model," police said.

Police didn't know what prompted the chaos involving hundreds of people outside the Park Central New York hotel in Manhattan. The panic left the street outside the hotel littered with shoes and clothing, according to news reports.

"It was pretty scary," Jessica Paravati told WNYW-TV. She said she was caught up in a stampede after waiting on line overnight, hoping for a shot at stardom on the reality show.

Two women and a man were arrested on disorderly conduct charges, police said. Authorities also shut down the audition, saying it wasn't properly organized.

Four injured people declined treatment, while two others were taken to a hospital, the fire department said. Their conditions weren't immediately available.

Our society has become so superficial it hurts my heart. :(

Crime and Illegal Immigration

For some reason, Americans have this romantic vision of hard working Mexicans fleeing their native land to find a better life in the U.S.

The reality, is that all illegal immigrants have broken our laws by illegally entering this nation. Additionally, by not entering this nation through the proper channels, we as a country have no way to filter out the criminals. The criminals know that our borders are open and thus, the riches of a first world nation is there, for the plundering.

A case in point, ICE rounded up 100 illegal alien gang members in Southern California recently.

Guarded borders, and limited, legal immigration for only the best and the brightest is the only solution to our illegal alien problem.

FRESNO, Calif. - U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has arrested 100 gang members and gang associates in the Central Valley over the last year as part of the agency’s ongoing national anti-gang effort known as Operation Community Shield.

Since Operation Community Shield was launched in 2005, ICE has arrested more than 12,000 gang members and associates nationwide and seized more than 470 firearms. Of those arrested, 154 were gang leaders.

The 100 individuals taken into custody here by ICE as part of Operation Community Shield since February 2008 are foreign nationals with ties to violent street gangs. The statistics include ICE gang arrests in four Central Valley counties - Fresno, Madera, Merced and Tulare. The vast majority of those targeted were arrested on administrative immigration violations. They include foreign nationals who are deportable based upon prior felony convictions and aliens who entered the country without inspection. Virtually all of those arrested have criminal records, including prior convictions on charges ranging from kidnapping and assault to firearms violations and robbery.

At least one of the suspected gang members is being prosecuted on felony criminal charges. Moises Gonzalez-Cruz, a purported “shot caller” in a local clique of the Sureno street gang, was arrested in Madera, Calif., on June 5, 2008, following his indictment for re-entering the United States after deportation. The 36-year-old pleaded guilty to the charges in September and is currently serving 30 months in federal prison.

Other gang members arrested recently by ICE include a Mexican national with ties to the Pocos Pero Locos clique of the Sureno street gang who has prior felony criminal convictions for carrying a concealed firearm and participating in a street gang. The 21-year-old was taken into custody in Madera, Calif., yesterday by ICE agents. The gang member, who goes by the moniker “Lil’ Crazy,” has been placed in deportation proceedings.

The criminal and administrative arrests are part of Operation Community Shield, an ongoing nationwide initiative in which ICE is partnering with other federal, state and local law enforcement agencies to address the public safety threat posed by transnational gangs. Over the course of the last year, the ICE Office of Investigations in Fresno has worked closely with several area law enforcement agencies to target street gang members.

“These arrest statistics are further proof of ICE’s major role in combating the spread of gangs and gang-related crime here in the Central Valley,” said Brian Poulsen, resident agent in charge of the ICE Office of Investigations in Fresno. “Our immigration and customs authorities are proving to be powerful weapons in this effort and we’ll continue working closely with local law enforcement to attack and dismantle the gangs that have terrorized our communities. In cases where gang members are in the United States illegally, we not only remove them from the community, we seek to remove them from the country.”

As part of Operation Community Shield, ICE works with federal, state and local law enforcement agencies to target transnational street gangs. Transnational street gangs have a significant number of foreign-born members and are frequently involved in human and contraband smuggling, immigration violations and other crimes with a connection to the border.

Texas oilmen lead charge of 'green' energy exploration

HOUSTON — George Alcorn is a third-generation Texas oilman. His grandfather drilled for oil in the 1930s, then his father and his uncles followed suit.

When Alcorn, 51, looks into the future of his business, though, he doesn't see black oil gushing from a well — he sees steam. Alcorn recently revamped his business strategy from traditional oil exploration to using abandoned wells and drilling technology to generate geothermal energy as a way to power cities.

The rough-and-tumble image of the Texas oilman may be turning "green." An increasing number of Texas oilmen and companies are following Alcorn's lead and swapping oil and gas production for cleaner, renewable-energy strategies.

"We're trying to catch the new wave, not get swamped by it," Alcorn says. "You're going to see more oil companies doing this. There's a great opportunity to make some money here."

With mounting national interest in renewable energy, oil companies are starting to think in renewable terms. President Obama's $800 billion economic stimulus, which contains incentives for renewable projects, has helped push the swing.

Those horrible terrible nasty oil companies. What are they thinking? Trying to change their ways? Oh, and by the by, your tax payer dollars were not helping them before, but they are now. Thanks America for voting "commie".

Judge orders homeschoolers into public district classrooms

A North Carolina judge has ordered three children to attend public schools this fall because the homeschooling their mother has provided over the last four years needs to be "challenged."

The children, however, have tested above their grade levels – by as much as two years.

The decision is raising eyebrows among homeschooling families, and one friend of the mother has launched a website to publicize the issue.

The ruling was made by Judge Ned Mangum of Wake County, who was handling a divorce proceeding for Thomas and Venessa Mills. A statement released by a publicist working for the mother, whose children now are 10, 11 and 12, said Mangum stripped her of her right to decide what is best for her children's education.

The judge, when contacted by WND, explained his goal in ordering the children to register and attend a public school was to make sure they have a "more well-rounded education."

"I thought Ms. Mills had done a good job [in homeschooling]," he said. "It was great for them to have that access, and [I had] no problems with homeschooling. I said public schooling would be a good complement."

The judge said the husband has not been supportive of his wife's homeschooling, and "it accomplished its purposes. It now was appropriate to have them back in public school."

Four days after Sanjay Gupta, in the wake of Tom Daschle's withdrawal as HHS Secretary-designate, decided to turn down the Obama administration's offer to become Surgeon General, CBS went to the CNN medical correspondent for expert analysis on the benefits of Obama's decision to allow federal funding of research on embryonic stem cells. (Monday afternoon following Obama's announcement, CNN refrained from putting Gupta on the air. Wolf Blitzer, however, brought him aboard the 6 PM EDT hour of The Situation Room to expound on what Gupta described as the "enthusiasm" and "lot of promise" offered by the administration's reversal of the Bush policy.)

CBS anchor Katie Couric fretted Obama's decision didn't do enough. Referring to a law which "prohibits the creation of embryos simply for the purpose of using their stem cells," Couric worried: "If the ban against using tax dollars for this is not lifted, will it hinder progress?" Gupta assured her there are "plenty of embryos" available. Next, Couric cited how "the only FDA-approved clinical trial for using stem cells involved spinal cord injuries" and wondered: "What other conditions or diseases show the most potential to respond to this kind of therapy?"

Katie is my hero.....NOT! Is there anyone who President Obama has tried to appoint that has 1)paid their taxes, 2)has not had a problem with his agenda or 3)said "yes" then had a tour of their new government departments, got the "this is how it's going to be run" speech and went aaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhh. Blair: China Adopting a More Aggressive Military Stance

National Intelligence Director Dennis Blair told Congress Tuesday that China's alleged harassment of an unarmed U.S. Navy craft is the "most serious" he's seen in eight years, warning that China appears to have adopted a more aggressive military stance.

"The Chinese trajectory there has changed in a somewhat more aggressive way in the past several years from what we had seen earlier," he said, specifically pointing to activity in the South China Sea. "They seem to be more ... military, aggressive, forward-pushing than we saw a couple of years before."

Blair said the debate is still open as to whether China's military power will be "used for good or for pushing people around."

His testimony to the Senate Armed Services Committee comes after the Pentagon accused five Chinese ships of harassing an unarmed U.S. Navy craft in international waters. Blair said the incident is the worst since a U.S. spy plane and crew were detained in 2001.

Here we go again and oh, China is not our friend.

Daylight Savings Time: Rationale And Original Idea

First a brief definition:

The main purpose of Daylight Saving Time (called "Summer Time" in many places in the world) is to make better use of daylight. We change our clocks during the summer months to move an hour of daylight from the morning to the evening.

Then some reason why we do it;

According to some sources, DST saves energy. Studies done by the U.S. Department of Transportation in 1975 showed that Daylight Saving Time trims the entire country's electricity usage by a small but significant amount, about one percent each day, because less electricity is used for lighting and appliances. Similarly, in New Zealand, power companies have found that power usage decreases 3.5 percent when daylight saving starts. In the first week, peak evening consumption commonly drops around five percent.

The rationale behind the 1975 study of DST-related energy savings was that energy use and the demand for electricity for lighting homes is directly related to the times when people go to bed at night and rise in the morning. In the average home, 25 percent of electricity was used for lighting and small appliances, such as TVs and stereos. A good percentage of energy consumed by lighting and appliances occurred in the evening when families were home. By moving the clock ahead one hour, the amount of electricity consumed each day decreased.

And finally the Original Idea:

The idea of daylight saving was first conceived by Benjamin Franklin during his sojourn as an American delegate in Paris in 1784, in an essay, "An Economical Project."

Frankly, I think we should just let Mother Nature do what she does when she wants and stop messing with this. There is going to be more sunlight in the summer and less in the winter "naturally". You should follow the link and read the whole story. It's a good one.

Congress OK's temporary spending patch

Here we go a spending, a spending, a spending. Here we go a spending, all day long.

Congress Friday passed a temporary spending measure to keep the government open through Wednesday as lawmakers struggled over an omnibus appropriations bill for the remainder of the fiscal year.

The House passed the bill by a 328-50 vote; the Senate acted by unanimous voice vote. President Barack Obama was slated to sign the measure later Friday.

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, Nevada Democrat, said the chamber would continue to work through a large number of proposed amendments to the $410 billion spending package, with hopes of wrapping up work by Monday or Tuesday. Mr. Reid acknowledged Thursday night he was one vote short of the 60 he needs to cut off debate and allow a final roll-call vote.

The new "continuing resolution" keeps spending levels essentially at the previous fiscal year's limits. The resolution was needed because funding for more than a dozen Cabinet-level departments and agencies was set to expire at midnight.

Senate Republicans insisted on offering at least a dozen more amendments that Mr. Reid said he would "work hard to defeat." There are also Democrats who object to the more than 9,000 member-directed "earmarks" in the omnibus bill, despite President Obama's stated intention to limit pork provisions in appropriations bills.

Sure they are telling the American public that the budget with keep spending at "the previous fiscal year's limits", but they already are on their way to passing the "stimulus package" which SPENDS more of our tax payer money. Look Congress has no money of their own. They don't have a savings account. The only thing they can do with the money they get from us is to spend it, and then ask for more. What a country.

More Gun Control Introduced in Congress

It's starting. Their coming to take your guns away, ha, ha, he, he, ho, ho!

The liberals are at it again. In a new bill introduced the first day of present session of Congress, and with zero coverage from the MSM, H.R. 45 (Blair Holt's Firearm Licensing and Record of Sale Act of 2009) targets all gun owners in the U.S.A.

This nefarious bill seeks to strip us all of our Constitutional Rights to possess and bear firearms of any distinction. It requires, within the first two years, that all new guns be registered. The bill goes retroactive after two years. Meaning that two years after the passage of the bill, ALL FIREARMS in a citizen’s possession must be registered, not just those purchased after the bill passes, and this apparently applies to antique firearms as well.

Every five years the firearm owner must go through a complete renewal process for each weapon owned. Failure to comply carries stiff penalties including confiscation of the firearms and jail time (penalties as high as ten years imprisonment in some cases). The bill also authorizes government searches without warrant, the creation of a federal bureaucracy to monitor firearm possession, etc.

Get ready to call/write/fax/e-mail your elected cockroaches. And didn't the U.S Supreme court just rule last year that our Second Amendment rights were not to be infringed. Hey wait a minuet, don't the libs just looove what the courts say, why don't they respect this decision.?

At least 24 states and the District of Columbia are moving from abstinence instruction to a more comprehensive approach that includes lessons about STD prevention and contraception, a massive shift away from the wait-until-marriage method pushed heavily by the Bush administration.

Many states adopted abstinence-only education in return for federal funding, but 13 years after Congress designed the programs in 1996, teen pregnancy rates are on the rise and critics say kids are simply not listening to the abstinence-only message.

"It's bad — we have the ninth-highest pregnancy rate in the country and it's clear that our students need more information," said Emily Pelino, education director for the Adolescent Pregnancy Prevention Campaign of North Carolina (APPCNC).

If you continue to read the article, they are blaming the Bush administration and the Internet for the increase in teen pregnancy. Not the kids, not the parents, and not any adult they come in contact with. Say, the slutty teachers and coaches themselves. No, we put our kids and tax payer dollars in these freaks hands everyday. Stocks plummet as bad news overwhelms investors

NEW YORK (AP) — Investors fled Wall Street as fear grew about the stability of the nation's largest banks and worries mounted about General Motors.

Stocks ended at 12-year lows Thursday as the major market indicators fell 4%, more than wiping out the previous day's rally. Investors wrestled with more disheartening economic data, new concerns about GM and relentless uncertainty about the financial system. Short selling ahead of the government's Friday employment report exacerbated the losses, slashing 281 points from the Dow Jones industrials.

Stocks fell in every industry, with beleaguered banks posting some of the steepest drops. Citigroup, still shaky despite receiving billions in government aid, at times sank below $1 and finished down 10% at $1.02. General Motors, meanwhile, ended with a loss of 15% at $1.86 as it warned of possible bankruptcy.

So which is it? Are they up, or down? Is it good news or bad news?

Free Health Care for Illegal Aliens Needs Improvement, Some in Congress Say

Free health care provided to illegal aliens detained by Immigration and Customs Enforcement needs to be investigated and improved, some members of a congressional Homeland Security panel said on Tuesday, despite testimony that the number of detainee deaths is way down and that health screenings have saved lives.

Now your all saying it is our responsibility to take care of these people because we detained them, I can hear ya'all saying that.

Capt. Jose Rodriguez, director of the U.S. Public Health Service's Division of Immigration Health Services, testified that each individual taken into ICE custody is given a verbal health screening and is tested for tuberculosis within 12 hours. Dental exams also are provided, and women ages 10 to 55 are given pregnancy tests at the initial health screening.

The dental screening is a bit over the top since most health care plans for working citizens of this great United States do not include dental plans. The rest I agree with, especially testing for TB. A disease that all these Illegal Aliens are bringing back into the U.S. And get a load of these numbers.

Witness Jim Hayes, director of ICE’s Office of Detention and Removal Operations, told the subcommittee that of the more than 1.7 million people who have been in ICE custody since its inception in 2003, 90 individuals have died.

1.7 million illegals, and that's only the ones we know about and caught! I wonder what they do with the babies of the illegals that these women have while in detention? Do they ship them back to their country of origin with their mothers. I doubt it.

'Death With Dignity' Law Takes Effect in Washington State

With the way the government is taking over our lives and taking away states rights, there is no way this will fly. By the by, how is that medical marijuana law working out for the sick that need it in their respective states?

OLYMPIA, Wash. — Terminally ill patients with less than six months to live will soon be able to ask their doctors to prescribe them lethal medication in Washington state.

But even though the "Death with Dignity" law takes effect Thursday, people who might seek the life-ending prescriptions could find their doctors conflicted or not willing to write them.

Many doctors are hesitant to talk publicly about where they stand on the issue, said Dr. Tom Preston, a retired cardiologist and board member of Compassion & Choices, the group that campaigned for and supports the law.

"There are a lot of doctors, who in principle, would approve or don't mind this, but for a lot of social or professional reasons, they don't want to be involved," he said.

But Preston said discussions about end-of-life issues between doctor and patient will increase because of the new law, and he thinks that as time goes on more and more doctors who don't have a religious or philosophical opposition will be open to participating.

"It will be a cultural shift," he said.

The U.S. Supreme Court ruled in 2006 that it was up to states to regulate medical practice, including assisted suicide, and Washington's Initiative 1000 was passed by nearly 60 percent of state voters in November.

Folks, in this political climate. And this new age of judicial activism, there isn't a chance on God's green earth (yes, it's still green) that this is going to pass the muster. Look this up, think for yourselfs, and stand up in your state for state's rights.

Broadcasting pioneer Paul Harvey dies at age 90

I was wondering when we would lose him. I loved listening to the "Rest of the Story".

CHICAGO — Paul Harvey, the news commentator and talk-radio pioneer whose staccato style made him one of the nation's most familiar voices, died Saturday in Arizona, according to ABC Radio Networks. He was 90.

Harvey died surrounded by family at a hospital in Phoenix, where he had a winter home, said Louis Adams, a spokesman for ABC Radio Networks, where Harvey worked for more than 50 years. No cause of death was immediately available.

Harvey had been forced off the air for several months in 2001 because of a virus that weakened a vocal cord. But he returned to work in Chicago and was still active as he passed his 90th birthday. His death comes less than a year after that of his wife and longtime producer, Lynne.

It will be interesting to see who ABC Radio hires to replace him. I wonder if they will discontinue the program.
