Chemical Used to Make Plastics Found in Recalled Pet Food Linked to Deaths

I previously reported about menu foods wet pet food recall, here is an update...

From FNC:

Recalled pet foods contained a chemical used to make plastics, but government tests failed to confirm the presence of rat poison, federal officials said Friday.

The Food and Drug Administration said it found melamine in samples of the Menu Foods pet food, as well as in wheat gluten used as an ingredient. Cornell University scientists also have found the chemical, sometimes used as a fertilizer, in the urine of sick cats, as well as in the kidney of one cat that died after eating the company's wet food.

Click Here For a List of Pet Food Brand Names Subject to Recall.

Menu Foods recalled 60 million containers of cat and dog food earlier this month after animals died of kidney failure after eating the Canadian company's products. It is not clear how many pets may have been poisoned by the apparently contaminated food, although anecdotal reports suggest hundreds if not thousands have died. The FDA alone has received more than 8,000 complaints.

The new finding comes a week after scientists at the New York State Food Laboratory identified a rat poison and cancer drug called aminopterin as the likely culprit in the pet food. The FDA said it could not confirm that finding.

New York officials have detected melamine as well, though it's not clear how that chemical would have poisoned pets. It's typically used to produce plastic kitchen wares, though it's apparently used as a fertilizer in Asia, said Stephen F. Sundlof, director of the FDA's Center for Veterinary Medicine.

New York remained confident in its aminopterin finding, said Patrick Hooker, commissioner of the New York state Department of Agriculture and Markets. Hooker added that neither aminopterin nor melamine should be in pet food, but that it was unclear why the latter substance would be poisonous to the cats in which it was found.

"While we have no doubt that melamine is present in the recalled pet food, there is not enough known data on the mammalian toxicity levels of melamine to conclude it could cause illness and deaths in cats. With little existing data, many questions still remain as to the connection between the illnesses and what has caused them," Hooker said.

The apparently melamine-contaminated wheat gluten also was shipped to an unnamed company that manufactures dry pet food. The FDA is attempting to determine if that product, imported from China, was used to make any pet food, Sundlof said. There is no risk to human food, he told reporters.

Now they tell us an "unnamed" dry food might be contaminated as well? Even if it is just suspected they should be telling us before animals start dying!

DA is conducting an investigation and working with Menu Foods, Inc. to ensure the effectiveness of the recall. Consumers with questions may contact the company at 1-866-895-2708. Consumers who wish to report adverse actions or other problems can go to http://www.fda.gov/opacom/backgrounders/complain.html to contact the FDA complaint coordinator in their state.

Corporate Owner of T.J. Maxx, Marshall's Says Information for 45.7 Million Cardholders Stolen

I keep warning about the threat of identity theft...

From FNC:

More than two months after first disclosing that hackers accessed customers' financial data from its computers, discount retailer TJX Cos. (TJX) has revealed that information from at least 45.7 million credit and debit cards was stolen over an 18-month period.

In a regulatory filing that gives the first detailed account of the breach initially disclosed in January, the owner of T.J. Maxx, Marshall's and other stores in North America and the United Kingdom also said another 455,000 customers who returned merchandise without receipts had their personal data stolen, including driver's license numbers.

Click here to visit FOXBusiness.com's Identity Theft Center.

The data that was stolen covers transactions dating as far back as December 2002, TJX said in the filing Wednesday with the Securities and Exchange Commission.

TJX spokeswoman Sherry Lang did not immediately return a telephone message from The Associated Press seeking comment late Wednesday.

But Lang told The Boston Globe, which first reported the filing Wednesday night, that about 75 percent of the compromised cards either were expired or had data from their magnetic stripes masked, meaning the data was stored as asterisks, rather than numbers.

Lang said the extent of the damage may never be known because of the methods used by the intruder. Much of the transaction data was deleted by TJX in the normal course of business between the time of the thefts and the time they were discovered, the filing said, making it impossible to know how many card numbers were obtained.

"There's a lot we may never know and it's one of the difficulties of this investigation," Lang said. "It's why this has taken this long and why it's been so tedious. It's painstaking."[snip]

This was obviously done over a long period of time, in many locations," she said. "It's done considerable damage."

Police charged six people in Florida last week with using credit card numbers stolen from a TJX database to buy about $1 million in merchandise with gift cards.

In Wednesday's filing, TJX said for the first time that Dec. 18, 2006, was the date it first learned that there was suspicious software on its computer system.

TJX said it believes hackers invaded its systems in July 2005, on later dates in 2005 and also from mid-May 2006 to mid-January 2007. The company said no customer information was stolen after Dec. 18, one day before it hired General Dynamics Corp. and IBM Corp. (IBM) to investigate. By Dec. 21, those investigators determined that the computer systems had been breached and that an intruder remained on the systems.

TJX said it notified federal authorities Dec. 22, and on Jan. 3, TJX officials and Secret Service agents met with banks and payment card and check processing companies to discuss the computer intrusion.[snip]

Framingham-based TJX is facing an investigation by the Federal Trade Commission and lawsuits from individuals and banks accusing it of failing to do enough to safeguard private data and of delaying disclosure of the problem.

Castro ends 8-month silence to slam US ethanol plans

Uh oh, I agree with Castro?

From M&C News:
Ending eight months of silence, ailing Cuban President Fidel Castro published an article in Cuban state media Thursday criticizing US environmental policies, and in particular plans to boost the use of ethanol.

'The sinister idea of converting food into fuel has definitely been established as an economic lineament in US foreign policy,' the Cuban leader wrote, arguing that US President George W Bush's support for using crops to produce ethanol for automobiles in rich nations could deplete food stocks in developing countries.[snip]
'More than 3 billion people in the world condemned to premature death by hunger and thirst,' read the headline of Castro's article.[snip]
In the article, Castro warned that the plans to convert products like corn, sugar cane or soy into ethanol for use as fuel additives could cause serious ecological damage and would adversely affect the third world population.[snip]
According to the Cuban leader, even if the US dedicated its entire corn production to the production of ethanol, there still would not be enough ethanol for its fuel needs.

'If you apply this recipe in Third World countries, you'll see how many people of the hungry masses of our planet will stop eating corn. Or even worse: finance poor countries to produce ethanol from corn and there won't even be one tree to defend humanity of the climate change,' Castro wrote.

The Cuban president said instead of these policies, countries should concentrate on other ways of saving energy, as Cuba does.

'All the countries in the world, poor and rich, could save millions and millions of dollars just by changing all incandescent light bulbs into fluorescent ones, something Cuba has been doing in all homes. That would give climate change a break without starving the poor masses of the world,' said Castro, who in the past few years has made ecology one of his major interests.
I said it before I think turning food into combustible fuel is a profoundly bad idea. We have already seen protests in Mexico over the increase in the price of corn tortillas, the staple of the Mexican poor. There is only so much land available for growing crops and it should go to feed humans, not cars.

This is what I mean about not thinking through ideas thoroughly, before accepting them. It sounds good to turn corn and sugar into combustible fuel, but people cannot eat crude oil, engines can.

You don't think this will affect you? Well, think again, because everything we feed corn to will go up in price, including meat, corn, sugar, milk and baked goods.

Congratulations, for turning a theoretical problem of global warming into a very real problem of world hunger.

Inside look at Senate & White House Immigration Reform proposal

Cross posted from Bear Creek Ledger

From Roy Beck of Numbers USA email we get some of the skivvy with the new Senate/White House plan for immigration reform scamnesty.

QUICK OVERVIEW

Our analysis here is based on the 23-slide Power Point show the White House has been giving Members of Congress the last couple of days, and on our interviews with Members who got the presentation.

* This new plan espouses several key elements that NumbersUSA has been pushing for years. It calls for (1) an end to chain migration, (2) an end to the lottery, (3) strong enforcement against future illegal immigration, (4) no path to green cards for new guest workers, (5) no family accompanying guest workers. It appears that all of your years of faxing, phoning and visiting — and your staff’s personal visits to Members and to the White House staff — have broken through on several fronts.

* But in nearly every case of good elements, the plan either lacks the details to ensure that these are implemented as advertised, or it has other provisions that knowingly or inadvertently undermine those good elements.

* It rewards most of the 12 million illegal aliens with the very things they broke immigration laws to obtain.

* It is nearly oblivous to the costs of low-skilled foreign workers to American taxpayers.

It would impose trillions of dollars of costs on American citizens. Inexplicably, it would dramatically increase the number of low skilled foreign workers in the country, even though a new Heritage Foundation study has found that each household headed by such a worker saddles Americans with a net of $22,000 extra in welfare and other government benefits.

* It would increase annual immigration by at least 50%.

Current annual immigration already is running 400% of traditional U.S. averages. This plan would boost annual numbers to at least six times what they were in the 1950s and 1960s.

* It is totally insensitive to the deterioration in the quality of life for most Americans who would see their communities forced to accommodate another 200 million people because of immigration by mid-century.

And there is not a single indication of concern about what a half-billion American population in 2050 would do to natural habitats in the U.S., to global environmental factors or to the nation’s ability to have enough energy supplies.

* The needs and lives of American workers are largely ignored.
This is a plan drawn up almost entirely for the sake of businesses desiring to globalize their laborforce in order to hold wages down toward global averages.

IS IT AN AMNESTY FOR 12 MILLION ILLEGAL ALIENS?

YES.

Buried in the 23 pages of White House talking points is the promise that nearly all illegal aliens are expected to get a path to U.S. citizenship!

It basically makes liars of many of the staffers you have talked to by phone this week who claimed that there is no way their boss would ever support an amnesty and who claimed their boss wasn’t involved in amnesty discussions with the White House.

Any Senator who comes out in support of this new White House plan will be in support of an amnesty.

You need to make sure your Senators’ offices know that when you call today.

Reading the White House outline, it is clear that the negotiators tried very hard to create enough hoops and loops so they could try to claim they aren’t supporting an amnesty.

But consider this:

* Nearly all of the official 12 million illegal aliens would be allowed to immediately apply for a “Z Visa.” That visa allows them to live and work legally in the United States for three years. That is what they broke the law to obtain. And they would get it. All they have to do is pay a $2,000 fine and a $1,500 processing fee. How many billions of people in the world would gladly pay $3,500 for the chance to work in the U.S.?

* The illegal aliens can renew the Z Visa every three years — for the rest of their lives. They just have to pay the $3,500 every three years. But in order to get the first renewal, the illegal aliens would have to show progress toward assimilation by passing an English and civics test.

* The illegal aliens with Z Visas are fully eligible for free, taxpayer-subsidized secondary education and emergency social service.

* At any time, illegal aliens can apply for a path to U.S. citizenship. The only thing that will slow them down is they will have to leave the country to be screened for security and will have to pay a $2,000 application fee and another $8,000 when their permanent residency is approved. The White House’s Power Point slide states that nearly all illegal aliens are expected to eventually win this permanent residency and path to U.S. citizenship.

NEW HERITAGE FOUNDATION FINDINGS ON COST OF FOREIGN WORKERS FOR AMERICANS

Robert Rector of the Heritage Foundation has just finished a study that makes the White House plan for big increases in low-skill labor sound like a plot to bankrupt America.

The study looked at households headed by high-school drop-outs.

It found high school drop-outs accounted for about:

* 9% of native-born Americans
* 25% of legal immigrants
* 50% of illegal aliens

The new Bush/Republican Senator plan would dramatically increase the number of legal immigrant drop-outs and make sure that millions of illegal drop-outs stayed in our country.

The cost to Americans will be staggering.

Rector found that the share of federal, state and local costs for each of these high-school-dropout households is around $43,000 a year.

But he subtracted out their share of defense and interest on debt, concluding that:

THE INCREMENTAL FEDERAL, STATE AND LOCAL EXPENDITURES FOR EACH HOUSEHOLD HEADED BY A HIGH-SCHOOL DROPOUT IS AROUND

$32,000 a year in government support

The Heritage Foundation scholar then painstakingly dug through government data to find every kind of tax that these households pay. He even included money spent on lottery tickets ($686 per year) and excise taxes, as well as FICA and property taxes and many others.

He said he was a bit surprised to find that these high-school-dropout households pay more taxes than he expected:

Nearly $10,000 a year in taxes

Nonetheless, the bottom line is that these households require:

$22,000 each year in net taxpayer subsidies

Why would our elected officials want to import foreign workers who require such huge infusions of taxpayer cash?

And why would they be proposing increasing that flow?

Even more astounding is that they want to force American taxpayers to continue to subsidize those who have come here illegally or broken our laws to stay.

Why would the Senate and House Democratic leadership — and now the White House and most Senate Republicans — want to keep these lawbreakers — every one of whose households will cost Americans an average net of $22,000 a year?

Rector’s study indicates that these total households headed by foreign-born high school drop-outs are costing taxpayers a net of around:

$100 BILLION a year

Yet, the new White House/Republican Senator immigration plan would ensure that all the illegal aliens getting that subsidy would remain to keep collecting …

… and that we would add large numbers of new households every year so that the total subsidy could grow much higher.

This Heritage Foundation Study makes it devastatingly clear that our current immigration policies amount to

BIGGEST UNFUNDED MANDATE ON LOCAL AND STATE GOVERNMENTS

Now, President Bush and apparently the majority of Republican Senators want to radically increase immigration’s costs for local and state governments (and their taxpayers)!

LOUSY RESULTS EMERGED FROM LOUSY PRINCIPLES

The White House sales pitch begins with a slide titled “FIRST PRINCIPLES.”

It isn’t so much what is stated but what is unstated that makes the principles so lousy.

Nothing about protecting the earning power of American workers and their ability to provide for their families.

Nothing about serving the national interest.

Nothing about protecting against taxpayer subsidies.

Nothing about keeping incentives for businesses to engage in productivity-enhancing innovation instead of relying on cheap labor.

Nothing about learning what the American people want and how immigration policies affect quality of life.

Nothing about protecting American students’ ability to seek careers in high-skill occupations.

As Sen. Jeff Session (R-Ala.) told the American Legion earlier this month: Most immigration proposals are nothing more than a collection of special-interest requests that have nothing to do with the national interest.

BOTTOM LINE ANALYSIS:

This highly negotiated plan has more than a dozen pet projects of various Senators.

Many of those pet projects are actually good ideas. But they have been assembled without regard to their overall effect on the American people.

In the end, the only clear purpose of this plan is that it serve the desires of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce professional lobbying class.

The plan would radically increase immigration numbers and forced population growth, congestion, chaos and regimentation on American communities and their residents.

It would impose astronomical costs upon the taxpayers in order to subsidize the businesses that make use of the foreign labor.

There are hopeful signs that this plan has a number of ingredients necessary to prevent most future illegal immigration.

But even if the loopholes in the plan’s enforcement provisions were closed, better enforcement against future illegal immigration doesn’t come close to justifying the damage inflicted on Americans by the amnesty and the immigration increases in the plan.

If you are not happy about this proposal then don’t be one of the SILENT MAJORITY! Call your Senator and Representative today to express your disapproval of the new Senate/White House proposal. Don’t be rude but be sure they understand you are not in favor of rewarding 12 to 20 million illegal aliens for their illegal actions.

Immigration legislation, it’s all smoke and mirrors

Cross posted from Right Truth

The image is from Michael Cutler’s article, “Congress Shadow Boxing with Illegal Immigration Crisis” discussing the latest attempts at immigration reform in congress. It’s a very good article and you should go read it all. He discusses the Guest Worker Amnesty program, the step-across-the-border-and-back-again citizenship, the the Real ID Act

Mexiforniadl325w

Mr. Cutler quotes some very interesting statistics from a report for the Center for Immigration Studies by George J. Borjas, a noted economist and the Robert W. Scrivner Professor of Economics and Social Policy at the John F. Kennedy School of Government, Harvard University.

To sum up some of Prof. Borjas’ findings:

• By increasing the supply of labor between 1980 and 2000, immigration reduced the average annual earnings of native-born men by an estimated $1,700 or roughly 4 percent.• Among natives without a high school education, who roughly correspond to the poorest tenth of the workforce, the estimated impact was even larger, reducing their wages by 7.4 percent.

• The 10 million native-born workers without a high school degree face the most competition from immigrants, as do the eight million younger natives with only a high school education and 12 million younger college graduates.

• The negative effect on native-born black and Hispanic workers is significantly larger than on whites because a much larger share of minorities are in direct competition with immigrants.

• The reduction in earnings occurs regardless of whether the immigrants are legal or illegal, permanent
or temporary. It is the presence of additional workers that reduces wages, not their legal status.

His report was prepared in 2004. Obviously, the rapid increase in the number of illegal aliens in the United States can only have exacerbated the impact on wages since then. What I find particularly interesting is that in the news article, the AFL-CIO complains that the proposed legislation would permit 400,000 additional alien workers to enter the United States resulting in depressed wages for the labor market. (read it all)
It seems pretty clear to me, so why is congress having such a difficult time passing legislation? I’ll tell you why, because they have no intention of passing a comprehensive immigration bill before the 2008 presidential elections. It’s that simple.

STRIVE (HR 1645) Opens the floodgates for illegal aliens

Cross posted from Bear Creek Ledger

STRIVE (Security Through Regularized Immigration & a Vibrant Economy) sponsored by Rep. Luis Gutierrez (D,IL) and Rep. Jeff Flake (R,AZ) pretty much opens the floodgates for illegal aliens to become “documented”.

Points of the bill:
1. Every illegal alien who’s here would be eligible to start down the road of citizenship.

2. Pay a fine of $2,000.

3. Pass a superficial criminal background check (without knowing the read identity this will produce nothing)

4. Creates a “Worker Importation Plan” for 400,000 more guest workers and all would be permitted to stay.

5. Any illegal not covered in this amnesty could qualify for the “AGJobs Amnesty”

6. Includes amnesty for any illegal who received a US taxpayer funded GED or HS diploma.

From Mike Cutler with the Center for Immigration Studies:

At present, the requirements of the Real ID Act are that United States citizens and resident aliens (lawful immigrants) must provide significant documentation as proof of their identities in order to apply for driver’s licenses. These stringent requirements derive from the findings of the Presidential Commission on the Terrorist Attacks Upon the United States on September 11, 2001.The 911 Commission found that the 19 terrorists used 364 aliases, in the aggregate, in order to conceal their true identities. They managed to obtain a number of driver’s licenses in false identities in furtherance of this effort. The Real ID Act is designed to help plug that major hole in our nation’s security. The Guest Worker Amnesty Program, whether it includes a pathway to United States citizenship, would defeat the intention of the REAL ID Act and would require our government to provide millions of illegal aliens with official identity documents to present to employers, to the Social Security Administration, to banks and even to libraries and other organizations that require applicants to provide photo identity documents.

These Guest Worker identity documents would, no doubt, enable the bearer to gain access to airliners, trains and supposedly secure government and private office buildings. While these cards are touted as being highly resistant to counterfeiting and alteration, the process by which they would be issued is fatally flawed. The problem is that USCIS is the agency responsible for issuing these cards. The millions of illegal aliens who would apply for these cards will, in many instances, be undocumented aliens. This means that they will not have official identity documents to start with! Therefore, how would the bureaucrats at USCIS know who these applicants are?

This is a severely wrong-headed program.

Each day many thousands of illegal and undocumented aliens can be expected to line up in front of immigration offices around the country seeking those highly valued ID cards which would enable them to work, travel and live “normally” amongst us, even though we would have no way of verifying their true names, dates of birth, dates of entry into the United States or other such critically important information. In fact, our bureaucrats would not even be able to verify the true nationality of many of these undocumented illegal aliens.

As a reminder the agency responsible for verification of the identity of aliens lost 111,000 immigration alien files.

FDA Warns Again About Arsenic in Mineral Water

Mineral water is good for you...

From the FDA:

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is re-issuing its warning to consumers not to drink "Jermuk" brand mineral water due to the risk of exposure to arsenic, a toxic substance and a known cause of cancer in humans. The agency is providing this information again to consumers due to an expansion of the recall initiated by the products' importers and distributors. "Jermuk" water is imported from Armenia and distributed under different labels in California. Five brands of these products have been recalled since March 7.

The latest recall, which was initiated on March 16 by the product's distributor, Andreas Andreasyan DBA Arnaz & Nelli Co., North Hollywood, CA., is for "Jermuk Natural Mineral Water Fortified with Gas from the Spring". This product is additionally labeled as "Produced by Sam-Har Co. Republic of Armenia" and "Exclusive Distributor in USA: Arnaz & Nelli Inc., CA 91605".

Although arsenic is a well known human poison, there is little chance that someone would become seriously ill after consuming the recalled products over a brief period of time (days to weeks). However, it is likely that the person would experience nausea, abdominal pain and possibly vomiting, which are indicators of arsenic toxicity.

FDA has sampled the contents of 500 milliliter (mL) green glass and/or plastic bottles of all of these brands and found they contained 454-674 micrograms of arsenic per liter of water. FDA's standard of quality for bottled water allows no more than 10 micrograms per liter.

The agency is investigating whether other bottle sizes or types of packaging contain similarly tainted products, and will continue working to remove all such bottled water from the market.

There have been no illnesses reported at this time. Consumers who drank this water and have concerns are encouraged to contact their health care provider.

FDA may provide additional updates as more information becomes available.

The following products were recalled on March 7:

  • "Jermuk Original Sparkling Natural Mineral Water Fortified With Natural Gas From The Spring". The product is in glass bottles and is additionally labeled as "2006 Jermuk Mayr Gortsaran CJSC" and "Imported by: Zetlian Bakery Inc." The importer and distributor is Zetlian Bakery, Inc., Pico Rivera, CA.
  • "JERMUK,1951, NATURAL MINERAL WATER, JERMUK MAYR GORTSARAN CJSC." The product is in plastic bottles which are additionally labeled as "Imported by: Zetlian Bakery Inc." The importer and distributor is Zetlian Bakery, Inc., Pico Rivera, CA.
  • "Jermuk Sodium Calcium Bicarbonate and Sulphate Mineral Water". The product is additionally labeled as "Bottled by ARPI Plant, Republic of Armenia" and "Exclusive US importer and distributor: Importers Direct Wholesale Co., Los Angeles, CA". The product is being recalled by Importers Direct Wholesale Company, Los Angeles, CA.
  • "Jermuk, Natural Mineral Water Sparkling". The product, recalled on March 7 is additionally labeled as "Bottled by Jermuk Group CJSC" and "Sale Agent Kradjian Importing Co. Inc." in Glendale, CA. The product is being recalled by Kradjian Importing Company, Glendale, CA.

FDA Launches Web Page Warning Against Buying Accutane

I went to the FDA looking for more info on the pet food recall and found some important info...

From the FDA:

The U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA) is launching a special Web page to warn consumers about the dangers of buying isotretinoin (Accutane) online. Isotretinoin is a drug approved for the treatment of severe recalcitrant nodular acne that does not respond to antibiotics. Improperly used, isotretinoin can cause severe side effects, including birth defects. Serious mental health problems have also been reported with isotretinoin use.

The Web page, http://www.fda.gov/buyonline/accutane, will be positioned as a search result on Google and other search engines when a consumer initiates an online search for the drug under any one of its four names (Isotretinoin is sold under the brand name of Accutane and in generic versions called Amnesteem, Claravis, and Sotret.) The web page warns that the drug "should only be taken under the close supervision" of a physician or a pharmacist, and provides links to helpful information, including ways to check that drugs purchased online come from legitimate pharmacies.

"This Web page is yet another step we're taking to ensure the safe use of a drug that can provide significant health benefits when used properly, but that can also cause very serious side effects if used without supervision of a health professional," said Steven Galson, M.D.,M.P.H., Director, FDA's Center for Drug Evaluation and Research.

FDA Announces Voluntary Withdrawal of Pergolide Products

Just a heads up...

From the FDA:

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) today announced that manufacturers of pergolide drug products, which are used to treat Parkinson’s disease, will voluntarily remove these drugs from the market because of the risk of serious damage to patients’ heart valves.

The products being withdrawn are Permax, the trade name for pergolide marketed by Valeant Pharmaceuticals, and two generic versions of pergolide manufactured by Par and Teva. Pergolide is in a class of medications called dopamine agonists and is used with levodopa and carbidopa to manage the symptoms (tremors and slowness of movement) of Parkinson’s disease.

In 2006, an estimated 12,000 patients received prescriptions for pergolide from retail pharmacies in the United States. Patients taking pergolide should contact their doctors to discuss alternate treatments. Patients should not stop taking the medication, as stopping pergolide abruptly can be dangerous.

There are alternative therapies available for Parkinson’s disease, including three other dopamine agonists that have not been associated with valvular heart disease. The removal of pergolide products is not expected to adversely affect patient care because of the alternative therapies available.

China has gained and tested array of space weapons

I warned everyone about china's space ambitions...

From The Washington Times:

China is developing an "impressive" array of space weapons, including missiles and jammers, and is moving toward placing nuclear weapons in space to attack U.S. satellites, the commander of U.S. strategic forces told the Senate yesterday.
The Chinese military has "undertaken what we would call a very disciplined and comprehensive continuum of capability against ... our space capabilities," Marine Corps Gen. James Cartwright yesterday told the Senate Armed Services strategic forces subcommittee.
Their capabilities go "all the way from temporary and reversible effects -- [Global Positioning System] jamming, things like that, [communications] jamming, all the way through direct ascent ASAT," he said, referring to anti-satellite weapons. "Eventually, they'll probably be looking at co-orbital" weapons -- missiles that orbit near a satellite and then explode.
I cannot reproduce the whole article and you really need to read the whole thing.

This is why funding for the space program and going back to the moon is so important. china has plans for a moon base, has space weapons and is not our friend. The General questions whether or not this should spark a space race? What has happened to our country? China is ahead of us in space weaponry and we shouldn't respond? What happened to the country that wanted to be the first to put a man on the moon? In my opinion, we had better not only get into the race, we better win it.

Interview with Darlene Fitzgerald (Law Darlene) a Customs Special agent Whistleblower, Author of BorderGate and all around Patriot. Don't miss this Show!

There is a cancer growing on the Department of Homeland Security (DHS). The best and brightest agents we have are being systematically harassed out of DHS. This is a story of bureaucracy run amok at the expense of our national security. We are less safe now than before “9-11”, even though billions of taxpayer dollars have been spent. Why? This is the gripping true story of National Security Whistleblowers and their courageous fight for justice against the very people who are supposed to be protecting us. If these whistleblowers lose their fight we all lose. What America’s enemies have not been able to accomplish will be done instead from within our own government.

'Will India Destroy the United States?'

From News by Us:

The title to this article may sound extreme. You be the judge. After responding recently to articles about the Indian invasion of America, I was finally encouraged to write an article about my experiences in the high-tech industry. Because of severance agreements, the names of my former company and former coworkers have been changed.

I am a computer programmer, and have been for 15 years. I worked for a company TechnoDataCode in California for 6 years, and I was the director of one of the R&D projects.

About a year ago, most of the other American employees and I were fired and replaced with people from India on H-1B and L-1 visas. The people from India were making only a fraction of what we Americans were making. I was making $110K a year; my replacement, $37K. The people under me were making about $75K; their replacements, about $29K.

To keep my severance pay, I was required to stay on for an additional six months (after the other Americans were fired) to train the replacements. This was probably the most humiliating experience of my life.

What I describe above is happening now every day. Many of my friends in high-tech have also recently been fired, and are being replaced with cheap imported labor from India or China. Microsoft says there is a “high-tech shortage,” which is a lie. Almost every American programmer I know is now unemployed and has been replaced by a cheap import. There is not a “shortage.” Big business only wants more cheap labor.

But the story only gets better....

You would think that the Indians would be appreciative of being allowed to work in the United States, but this was very far from the case. Most of their conversations involved extreme hatred of America, Americans, and anyone of European descent.

Here are some examples of their daily conversations:

* Indians are the real “Aryans.” The Human Genome Project shows that Indians are closely related to Africans. Thus Indians and Africans are the real “Aryans.”

* All people of European descent (i.e. all whites) must be exterminated

* Blond hair and blue eyes are inferior traits. By the year 2090, all people with blond hair and blue eyes will either be bred or executed out of existence.

* One day India will invade and take over. It is India’s destiny to rule over whites.

* Christianity is a disease that can only be cured with a bullet

Although most of the Indians were Hindu, a few were Muslim, and they were quite openly fond of Bin Laden. The Hindus, however, seemed to hate white Americans just as much as if not more than the Muslims. On this they could agree.

And then there is the story about Praveen.

Praveen, a Hindu from Northern India, was often very “touchy” with me and the other Americans. He was always shaking our hands and patting us on the backs. I noticed too that after touching me he often left “red marks” on my clothes, and on others’ clothes.

There was also a break room that only a few Americans frequented. (Indians never visited it.) And Praveen was always in there tampering with the coffee machine.

After seeing him one day pricking himself with a safety pin to make himself bleed, it all came together. He was trying to transmit his blood to others - either by direct contact or by putting it in the coffee machine.

Come to find out, he was HIV+ and was trying to transmit it to the Americans.

Praveen went back to India shortly after that, so no criminal action was able to be taken. But a few of the other Indians did transmit HIV to a couple of the American women - and seemed very proud of it.

Management of the company was informed of this, but they did very little to look into it. When I told our CEO that I suspected that the Indians were spreading HIV around the workers, he called me a “racist” and told me to be quiet.

I’m sure he was aware of what was going on - but simply did not care. Cheap labor is cheap labor, that that is the bottom line for big business.

The only loyalty of big business is profit, and they could care less about American workers, American values, or the well-being of the United States.

And what about the future of America?

Are we going to auction off every American job to low-paid imports until there are no good American jobs left? Are we going to let third-world hordes take over our high-tech sector until not a single American is left in any important position?

The only effective and patriotic way to stop this is by massive deportations of all the cheap labor from India and China. Otherwise, with the help of big business, we are well on our way to becoming a third-world country.

Illegal Aliens DEMANDING Citizenship Is Akin to…

Cross posted from Illegal Aliens Must Go

By John W. Lillpop

Watching millions of illegal aliens demanding citizenship and full rights is truly mind-boggling because it is hard to imagine that many Special Ed losers coming together in such dramatic fashion.

Yet there they were: Millions of idiots made whole only by their shared hysteria for the Mexican flag and Spanish-language mutilation of the star-spangled banner.

Severe psychosis motivates these nut cases to eschew the Melting Pot concept in favor of Mexican Meltdown.

Just how outrageous are the demands of illegal aliens? Consider some parallel thinking:

-A bank robber DEMANDS interest on the $100,000 taken at gun point during his “undocumented withdrawal”

-A convicted murderer DEMANDS a share of the proceeds from his victim’s life insurance payoff

-A castrated pedophile inmate DEMANDS a tax write-off for his “Organ Donation”

-A Muslim cleric DEMANDS the WTC 9/11 memorial include references to Allah, the Quaran, and the ‘Religion of Peace’

-Just before undergoing a partial-birth abortion, a liberal mother DEMANDS that a Catholic priest conduct a “last rites” ceremony for the soon-to-be pulverized fetus

Still, illegal aliens appear to have solid allies with just about all Democrats and the liberal media.

But I already mentioned psychotics, didn’t I?

Vicente Fox Concerned About American Economy!

Cross posted from Red hot Cuppa Politics

Vincente Fox, ex-president of Mexico, is retired these days. I guess he’s got time to travel.

From KSAT, out of San Antonio:

SAN ANTONIO — During a visit to San Antonio, former Mexican President Vicente Fox said Tuesday he’s concerned about dozens of immigration bills to be discussed at a hearing scheduled for Wednesday at the State Capitol.
He said he’s particularly concerned about House Bill 28, which if passed, would restrict employment and health care benefits for children of immigrants in Texas, including children born on American soil.

“That’s absolutely crazy, unfair, immoral,” Fox said. “Immigrants here in the U.S. contribute strongly to the productivity and the ability of this economy.”

Isn’t it sweet of him to be thoughtful of the American economy? What a prince!!!

I agree with John Lillpop — let’s send our Baby Boomers to be undocumented illegals to Mexico!!! I bet there’s alot of folks who’d donate to buy Jane Fonda across the Rio Grande, where she can protest for the right to have all the Mexican road signs in English!!!

Rosie: Captured Brits a hoax to provoke war

What can I say...

From WND:

In yet another provocative claim, TV host Rosie O'Donnell implied yesterday the Iranian seizure of British sailors was a hoax to provide President Bush with an excuse to go to war with Tehran.

In a discussion about the 15 British personnel seized Friday for allegedly entering Iranian waters, the controversial co-host of ABC's "The View" correlated the event to the Gulf of Tonkin incident that propelled the U.S. into the Vietnam War. President Johnson's administration was accused of provoking one incident in 1964 in the Gulf of Tonkin and making up another as a pretext for war.

O'Donnell, according to the media watchdog Newsbusters, said: "But interesting with the British sailors, there were 15 British sailors and Marines who apparently went into Iranian waters and they were seized by the Iranians. And I have one thing to say: Gulf of Tonkin, Google it. Okay."
After O'Donnell's comment, the dialogue when like this:

JOY BEHAR: Some other time. Some other time.

O'DONNELL: Well, you know...

BARBARA WALTERS: It could be a decision-making time. It's a very difficult situation. It's at the United Nations. It's being examined now. Should there be sanctions? Militarily, we certainly don't seem to be in the position to do something militarily. But it is a decision-making time.

O'DONNELL: Yes, but it's very interesting too that, you know, these guys, they went into the water by mistake right at a time when British and American, you know, they're two, they're pretty much our biggest ally and we're considering whether or not we should go into war with Iran.

BEHAR: But the U.N. was about to sanction them, also have an embargo against Iran. And the, and the timing [unintelligible] so they distracted the whole world with this.

ELISABETH HASSELBECK: Right and they may be about to expel the inspectors right now, too, which could be considered [unintelligible]

O'DONNELL: Right or it could be just the Gulf of Tonkin, which you should all Google.

Really, what can I say? People that believe like this think that we are crazy! ROTFLMAO!

Senate OKs war bill with Iraq timeline

Son of a...

From the AP:

Senate Democrats ignored a veto threat and pushed through a bill Thursday requiring
President Bush to start withdrawing troops from "the civil war in
Iraq," dealing a rare, sharp rebuke to a wartime commander in chief.

In a mostly party line 51-47 vote, the Senate signed off on a bill providing $123 billion to pay for the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. It also orders Bush to begin withdrawing troops within 120 days of passage while setting a nonbinding goal of ending combat operations by March 31, 2008.[snip]
Forty-eight Democrats and independent Bernard Sanders (news, bio, voting record) of Vermont were joined by two Republicans, Chuck Hagel of Nebraska and Gordon Smith of Oregon, in voting for the measure. Opposed were 46 Republicans and Connecticut independent Joseph Lieberman.

Sens. Mike Enzi, R-Wy., and Tim Johnson, D-S.D., did not vote.

I never thought they could get this out of the Senate. A time line to pull our troops out of Iraq, another defeat for the U.S. I guess the democrats, who voted in lock step, are not tired of losing wars. They are not tired of ensuring the U.S. has no teeth in foreign policy.

The President is going to veto this Bill and they know it. Then Harry "Droopy Dog" Reid and Nancy "Shrieker of the House" Pelosi will say that Bush defunded the troops because he vetoed a Bill TELLING the President how to run the war. They have no right, to tell the President anything about how to run the war. Congress, decides whether or not to go to war, or to continue it after 60 days, and then the President, as commander in chief, prosecutes the war.

Let's just add the icing on the cake and add over 20 Billion Dollars in PORK spending to the Bill!!

I have had it with the hezbocrats. It is time to change their party's name to the socialist party.

Another Way Americans Pay for Illegal Immigration

Cross posted from The Peoples Patriot Blog

Like oxygen, the American people need money to live. Often times the majority of the money we use to get by in life, is borrowed. If you accept this premise, then you will agree that the cost of money in the form of interest rates, has a direct impact on the financial lifestyles of all Americans. It’s easier to improve one’s lifestyle when the cost of money is low.

The Federal Reserve controls the cost of money in the United States. They determine, based on various economic data, the level of short term interest rates. Basically when the economy is strong as evidenced by high employment rates and prices that are rising based upon inflation rates, the Fed will raise the cost of money to slow down the economy to ward off inflation.

In June of 2003, the federal funds rate, one of the rates the Fed controls, bottomed out at 1.00%. Since that time, the Fed has raised this interest rate, a direct reflection of the overall cost of money, seventeen times. Since June of 2003, the federal funds rate has risen 525% to 5.25%.

Based on the Federal Reserve’s rate increases, one would believe that the last four years have been an economic Nirvana. However, talking to average Americans about their finances would indicate otherwise. In this current climate of rising prices, the most profound in the housing market, the average blue collar worker in America has seen wages flatten or decrease. In some cases, Americans have been victims of outright job displacement. So why then have interest rates or the cost of money continue to rise, making life even more difficult for the typical U.S. citizen?

As I write this, the stock market has plunged 135 points. The reason given is that Ben Bernanke the Chairman of the Federal Reserve made comments that would erase any optimism for a decrease in the cost of money (interest rate cut).

“Overall, the economy appears likely to continue to expand at a moderate pace over coming quarters,” he said.

One big risk: “core inflation remains uncomfortably high,” he said. However, core inflation “seems likely to moderate gradually over time,” he said.

He noted that higher rents had been a major factor in the acceleration of core inflation. He expected that force to dissipate.

It’s estimated that we have approximately 20 million illegal aliens in this country. While the likes of anti American companies like Bank of America try to profit from illegal aliens by providing them with loans, the vast majority of illegal aliens are renters. There is no doubt in my mind that these twenty million people are directly responsible for the strong rent component of the core inflation figures. That is to say that they have driven up housing costs not only in the ownership market but especially in the rental market.

It’s bad enough that American renters have to pay higher rents due to competing with 20 million illegal aliens, many living fifteen to twenty per household in violation of zoning laws. To add insult to injury, all Americans are faced with a higher cost of money. High cost of money equals a lower lifestyle. This is another way the American people are forced to pay for the elitist’s cheap illegal alien labor.

Price inflation isn’t the only indicator the fed uses to regulate the cost of money. Another very important component used in monetary policy is employment data. When jobs are being created at a strong pace, the economy is considered strong. When the economy is strong, the Federal Reserve does not decrease the cost of money. When it’s real strong, they will raise interest rates.

In December 2006, according to the monthly household employment survey, the economy created 303,000 new jobs. The financial community was expecting 100,000 new jobs. Sounds great doesn’t it? Everyone that wants a job should have one. However, if we take a look at the who is getting those jobs it paints a less rosy picture. Add to that with numbers like these, the cost of money or interest rates will remain high.

Here is an ethnic breakdown of the December jobs numbers.

  • Total: +303,000 (+0.21 percent)
  • Hispanic: +178,000 (+0.89 percent)
  • Non-Hispanic: +125,000 (+0.10 percent)

In December 2006, as evidenced by the above numbers, 6 in 10 jobs went to Hispanic workers. Hispanic workers represent 14% of the total U.S. work force. The overall unemployment rate held steady at 4.5% while Hispanic unemployment dropped .1% and non-Hispanic unemployment rose .1%.

If it weren’t enough that 6 in 10 jobs went to 14% of the work force, many of which are deemed illegal, the creation of these jobs in and of itself gives reason for the Federal Reserve to keep the cost of money relatively high, thus inflicting financial misery on all Americans. Not only have Americans been displaced in the work force and/or have had wages suppressed due to illegal alien employment, every American that borrows money had to pay a higher cost for borrowing as well. This is just another way our government degrades our lifestyles by allowing illegal immigration to flourish.

Like a cancer that invades a body, the effects of which can be vast and all consuming, illegal alien labor has both obvious and not so obvious affects on America and it’s citizens. In the end, should the cancer go untreated, it consumes the body by killing it. The need to treat this national form of cancer has reached a critical proportions. The life of the American “body” depends on it. The lives of the American people depend on it as well.

Iran shows video of captured Britons

From the AP:

Iranian state TV showed video Wednesday of the 15 British sailors and marines who were seized last week, including a female captive who wore a white tunic and a black head scarf and said the British boats "had trespassed" in Iranian waters.

Britain's military said its vessels were 1.7 nautical miles inside Iraqi waters when Iran seized the sailors and marines on Friday after they completed a search of a civilian vessel in the Iraqi part of the Shatt al-Arab waterway. The border between Iran and Iraq has been disputed for centuries.

Even more important...

Vice Adm. Charles Style told reporters that the Iranians had provided a position on Sunday — a location that he said was in Iraqi waters. By Tuesday, Iranian officials had given a revised position two miles east, placing the British inside Iranian waters — a claim he said was not verified by global positioning system coordinates.

"It is hard to understand a legitimate reason for this change of coordinates," Style said.

Style gave the satellite coordinates of the British crew as 29 degrees 50.36 minutes north latitude and 048 degrees 43.08 minutes east longitude, and said it had been confirmed by an Indian-flagged merchant ship boarded by the sailors and marines.

Gee, imagine that, their first coordinates were inside Iraqi waters and later it was revised two miles east. Hmm, quite a coincidence, wouldn't you say?

Not that it matters all that much to me, because this is not how countries NOT AT WAR behave.

Iranian Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki denied this, saying, "That's not true. It happened in Iranian territorial waters."

Mottaki also told The Associated Press in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, that Turney would be released Wednesday or Thursday, and he suggested that the British vessels' alleged entry into Iranian waters may have been a mistake.

"This is a violation that just happened. It could be natural. They did not resist," he told the AP.

"Today or tomorrow, the lady will be released," Mottaki said Wednesday on the sidelines of an Arab summit in the Saudi capital, referring to Turney, the only woman among the 15.

So, why just the female? Enter the weakest link of the crew..

"Obviously we trespassed into their waters," British sailor Faye Turney said on the video broadcast by Al-Alam, an Arabic-language, Iranian state-run television station that is carried across the Middle East.

"They were very friendly and very hospitable, very thoughtful, nice people. They explained to us why we've been arrested, there was no harm, no aggression," she said.

Turney, 26, was shown eating with sailors and marines. At another point, she was seen sitting in a room with a floral curtains, smoking a cigarette.

"My name is leading sailman Faye Turney. I come from England. I have served in Foxtrot 99. I've been in the navy for nine years," she said.

Turney was the only person to be shown speaking in the video.

It also showed what appeared to be a handwritten letter from Turney to her family. The letter said, in part, "I have written a letter to the Iranian people to apologize for us entering their waters."

The video also showed a brief scene of what appeared to be the British crew sitting in an Iranian boat in open waters immediately after their capture.

A yup, this letter and statement was made without coercion I am sure.

And this is why civilized countries do not behave like this...

Prime Minister Tony Blair told the House of Commons that "there was no justification whatever ... for their detention, it was completely unacceptable, wrong and illegal."

"We had hoped to see their immediate release; this has not happened. It is now time to ratchet up the diplomatic and international pressure in order to make sure the Iranian government understands its total isolation on this issue," Blair said.

Foreign Secretary Margaret Beckett said she had suspended bilateral talks on all other issues with Tehran until the 15 were released. Visits by officials will be stopped, issuing visas to Iranian officials suspended and British support for events such as trade missions put on hold, her office said.

"No one should be in any doubt about the seriousness with which we regard these events," Beckett told the House of Commons.

Beckett said Britain had now begun a "new phase of diplomatic activity," following Iran's failure to release the sailors and marines, or allow British officials access.

See, we do not respond well to acts of war. But, this should come as no surprise to anyone. you might remember the Iran hostage situation in the eighties that only ended when Ronald Reagan got elected and Dhimmi Jimmy Carter ousted. Abbadabbadoodoo was the chief hostage taker back then.

Iran is feeling the pressure of the sanctions already. They are rationing gas to their people and the regime is losing the support of the people and possibly even the mullahs. They want something from this they are not likely to get. They must abandon their nuclear ambitions and that is that.

President's Radio Address March 24, 2007

From The White House:

Audio

Transcript:

THE PRESIDENT: Good morning. The position of U.S. Attorney is one of the most important jobs in the Justice Department. U.S. Attorneys are appointed by the President, and they play a leading role in prosecuting crime and protecting the public.

In recent months, the Justice Department determined that new leadership in several of these positions would better serve the country. I strongly support the Attorney General in this decision. I also appreciate the hard work and service of the U.S. Attorneys who resigned. And I regret that their resignations have turned into a public spectacle.

Earlier this week, my Administration presented to Congress a reasonable way forward that balances the constitutional prerogatives of the Presidency with Congress's interest in learning more facts behind the decision to replace eight of the 93 U.S. Attorneys.

Members of Congress now face a choice: whether they will waste time and provoke an unnecessary confrontation, or whether they will join us in working to do the people's business. We have many important issues before us. So we need to put partisan politics aside and come together to enact important legislation for the American people.

One of the most urgent legislative priorities is to fund our troops fighting the war on terror. I've asked Congress to pass an emergency war spending bill that gives our troops what they need, without strings and without delay. Instead, a narrow majority in the House of Representatives decided yesterday to make a political statement. The emergency war spending bill they voted for would cut the number of troops below the level our military commanders say they need to accomplish the mission. It would set an artificial timetable for withdrawal that would allow the enemy to wait us out. And it would require an army of lawyers to meet the conditions imposed by politicians in Washington who are substituting their own judgment for that of our generals in Iraq. I have made it clear that I will veto any such bill, and it is clear that my veto would be sustained.

To get the votes they needed to pass the bill, the Democrats who control the House also included billions of dollars in domestic and pork barrel spending for local congressional districts. This spending includes things like $74 million for peanut storage, $25 million for spinach growers, and a host of other spending items that have nothing to do with the war. Even with all this extra spending tacked on, the vote in the House was very close. This means that the Democrats do not have enough votes to override my veto.

By choosing to make a political statement and passing a bill they know will never become law, the Democrats in Congress have only delayed the delivery of the vital funds and resources our troops need. The clock is running. The Secretary of Defense has warned that if Congress does not approve the emergency funding for our troops by April 15, our men and women in uniform will face significant disruptions -- and so will their families. April 15 is also about the same time that Congress returns from its Easter vacation. Members of Congress need to put our troops first, not politics. They need to send me a clean bill, without conditions, without restrictions, and without pork.

This is an important moment for our Nation, and it is an important moment for the new Congress. My Administration has presented a reasonable way forward on the matter of U.S. Attorneys, and on ensuring that our men and women in uniform have the funds and the flexibility they need to win in Iraq. It is not too late for us to work together. For the good of our Nation, I ask the Democratic leaders in Congress to seize the opportunity before us and move beyond political statements to bipartisan action.

Thank you for listening.

U.S. Navy flexes muscles in Persian Gulf

Hooah!

From the Denver Post:

ABOARD THE USS JOHN C. STENNIS- American warplanes screamed off two aircraft carriers Tuesday as the U.S. Navy staged its largest show of force in the Persian Gulf since the 2003 invasion of Iraq, launching a mammoth exercise meant as a message to the Iranians.[snip]

"If there is strong presence, then it sends a clear message that you better be careful about trying to intimidate others," said Capt. Bradley Johanson, commander of the Stennis.

"Iran has adopted a very escalatory posture with the things that they have done," he added. [snip]

F/A-18 fighter jets roared off the Stennis' flight deck all day, mounting a dozen rapid-fire training sorties against imaginary enemy ships and aircraft. A second task force with the carrier USS Dwight D. Eisenhower also took part in the drills.

"These maneuvers demonstrate our flexibility and capability to respond to threats to maritime security," said Navy Lt. John Perkins, 32, of Louisville, Ky., as the Stennis cruised about 80 miles off the United Arab Emirates after entering the Persian Gulf overnight.

"They're showing we can keep the maritime environment safe and the vital link to the global economy open."

At the headquarters of the Navy's 5th Fleet in Bahrain, Cmdr. Kevin Aandahl said the maneuvers would last several days. He said U.S. warships would stay out of Iran's territorial waters, which extend 12 miles off the Iranian coast.

None of America's naval coalition partners in the region joined the maneuvers.

A French naval strike group, led by the aircraft carrier Charles de Gaulle, was operating just outside the Gulf in the Arabian Sea. But the French ships were supporting NATO forces in Afghanistan and not taking part in the U.S. maneuvers, Aandahl said.

At the Pentagon, spokesman Bryan Whitman said the Navy routinely conducts exercises when its forces are deployed near each other. [snip]

The war games involve more than 10,000 U.S. personnel mounting simulated attacks on enemy aircraft and ships, while hunting submarines and looking for mines.

"What it should be seen as by Iran or anyone else is that it's for regional stability and security," Aandahl said. "These ships are just another demonstration of that. If there's a destabilizing effect, it's Iran's behavior."

The U.S. drills were the latest in a series of competing American and Iranian war games. Iran conducted naval maneuvers in November and April, while in October the Navy led a training exercise aimed at blocking nuclear smuggling.

In January, Defense Secretary Robert Gates said the Stennis strike group was being sent to the Mideast as a warning to Iran that it should not misjudge America's resolve in the region.

Iran has grown increasingly assertive in the Persian Gulf as the U.S. military has become focused on the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. Iranian officials have publicly called on America's Arab allies to shut down U.S. military bases and join Iran in a regional security alliance.

I am a serious Hawk, so you know I am happy about this, but Iran does need to be reminded of their place. Meaning, in the greater scheme of things, you better be careful.

I just wish we all could watch the exercise. I think they should televise the exercises for the American people.

600,000 Fugitives Missing

Cross posted from Right Truth

Fugitive: (noun) a person who is fleeing, having taken flight. In this case we are talking about 600,000 foreigners who have been ordered out of the United States, but cannot be found. Breitbart.com reports that “Homeland Security Department’s inspector general found that the effectiveness of teams assigned to find the fugitives was hampered by “insufficient detention capacity, limitations of an immigration database and inadequate working space.”‘

That sounds bad, but the 600,000 number is really just a drop in the bucket, because those are the illegals that we KNOW about. There are no reliable statistics on those we don’t know about.

Even though more than $204 million was allocated for 52 fugitive operations teams since 2003, a backlog of 623,292 cases existed as of August of 2006, the report said. The number of illegal immigrants in the United States has been estimated at between 11.5 million and 12 million. About 5.4 percent of them are believed to be “fugitive aliens,” those who have failed to leave the country after being ordered out.

Until the Sept. 11, 2001, terror attacks, attempts to catch such fugitives were mostly carried out by teams not exclusively devoted to the task. After the attacks, an Absconder Apprehension Initiative was created within the Justice Department to find, apprehend and deport such immigrants. When the Homeland Security Department was created in March 2003, it assumed responsibility.

We see how well that’s working for us.

Could it be that some of these fugitives, known and unknown, are Hezbollah suicide bombers that Iran’s Mahmoud Ahmadinejad suggests are here and awaiting orders to activate their cells? Or could it be that some of these are Jamaat ul-Fuqra at the Muslims of America compound known as “Aliville”, near Odum, Georgia. Perhaps some of these fugitives are at camp Islamville in Hancock, NY, or maybe or Madinah Village in Commerce, GA, just to name a few?

Constantinople Again (hat tip Gates of Vienna) tells of his visit to Aliville after the Gathering of Eagles. Go see the pictures, maps and read his experiences.

The truth is we have fugitives from all over, coming across the northern and southern borders, and entering the U.S. legally, overstaying visas, … and we don’t know how many there are, where they are, who they are, and thus we cannot round them up and ship them home. Money has been spent, agents have been assigned, and yet still we cannot get the job done.

Webb Aide Arrested For Taking Gun Into Senate Building

I am no Fan of Jim Webb, but this is just stupid...

From FNC:

U.S. Capitol Police arrested a top aide to Sen. Jim Webb on Monday after he tried to enter a Senate office building carrying a loaded pistol and two fully loaded magazines that belonged to the senator.

I hate when reporters do this, it was in some sort of bag or brief case. this is important because it is likely the aid did not know it was loaded. Heck we don't know if he knew there was a gun in the bag.

Frankly, everyone has the right to defend themselves and I would have no problem if they all carried firearms for protection. What part of SHALL NOT BE INFRINGED don't people understand?!?!? EVERY law that restricts honest citizen's right to bear arms is unconstitutional.

Phillip Thompson sent a bag through the X-ray machine at Russell Senate Office Building, where Webb's office is located. It detected the weapon and Capitol Police say they determined that Thompson didn't have a license to carry the gun in Washington, D.C. Thompson was arrested and charged with carrying a pistol without a license and possession of an unregistered firearm and unregistered ammunition.

A senior Democratic aide said Webb gave the bag that contained the gun to Thompson when the aide drove the senator to the airport. Thompson said he forgot it was in the bag when he took it into the office building. ...snip

Handguns are illegal in Washington, D.C., but nearby Virginia allows residents to carry concealed handguns. Capitol Police rules allow members and their employees to bring a weapon onto Capitol grounds if it is unloaded and securely wrapped. In this case, it was neither.

I am sick of this debate because it is dishonest. Anyone who has read the what the Founding Father's have written about the Second Amendment KNOWS it is an individual right for the purpose of defending the country, defending against a tyrannical government, for protection of self/private property and for providing of food. If you want read a good decision by a judge on this manner read U.S. v Emerson (I cannot believe how hard this was to find again). It is an excellent read breaking down the wording of the Second Amendment and citing the history and writings of the Founding Fathers.

I would like to see every honest citizen, without mental disorders, carrying a firearm. I know, an armed society, is a polite society.
