Chemical Used to Make Plastics Found in Recalled Pet Food Linked to Deaths

I previously reported about menu foods wet pet food recall, here is an update...

From FNC:

Recalled pet foods contained a chemical used to make plastics, but government tests failed to confirm the presence of rat poison, federal officials said Friday.

The Food and Drug Administration said it found melamine in samples of the Menu Foods pet food, as well as in wheat gluten used as an ingredient. Cornell University scientists also have found the chemical, sometimes used as a fertilizer, in the urine of sick cats, as well as in the kidney of one cat that died after eating the company's wet food.

Click Here For a List of Pet Food Brand Names Subject to Recall.

Menu Foods recalled 60 million containers of cat and dog food earlier this month after animals died of kidney failure after eating the Canadian company's products. It is not clear how many pets may have been poisoned by the apparently contaminated food, although anecdotal reports suggest hundreds if not thousands have died. The FDA alone has received more than 8,000 complaints.

The new finding comes a week after scientists at the New York State Food Laboratory identified a rat poison and cancer drug called aminopterin as the likely culprit in the pet food. The FDA said it could not confirm that finding.

New York officials have detected melamine as well, though it's not clear how that chemical would have poisoned pets. It's typically used to produce plastic kitchen wares, though it's apparently used as a fertilizer in Asia, said Stephen F. Sundlof, director of the FDA's Center for Veterinary Medicine.

New York remained confident in its aminopterin finding, said Patrick Hooker, commissioner of the New York state Department of Agriculture and Markets. Hooker added that neither aminopterin nor melamine should be in pet food, but that it was unclear why the latter substance would be poisonous to the cats in which it was found.

"While we have no doubt that melamine is present in the recalled pet food, there is not enough known data on the mammalian toxicity levels of melamine to conclude it could cause illness and deaths in cats. With little existing data, many questions still remain as to the connection between the illnesses and what has caused them," Hooker said.

The apparently melamine-contaminated wheat gluten also was shipped to an unnamed company that manufactures dry pet food. The FDA is attempting to determine if that product, imported from China, was used to make any pet food, Sundlof said. There is no risk to human food, he told reporters.

Now they tell us an "unnamed" dry food might be contaminated as well? Even if it is just suspected they should be telling us before animals start dying!

DA is conducting an investigation and working with Menu Foods, Inc. to ensure the effectiveness of the recall. Consumers with questions may contact the company at 1-866-895-2708. Consumers who wish to report adverse actions or other problems can go to http://www.fda.gov/opacom/backgrounders/complain.html to contact the FDA complaint coordinator in their state.

Corporate Owner of T.J. Maxx, Marshall's Says Information for 45.7 Million Cardholders Stolen

I keep warning about the threat of identity theft...

From FNC:

More than two months after first disclosing that hackers accessed customers' financial data from its computers, discount retailer TJX Cos. (TJX) has revealed that information from at least 45.7 million credit and debit cards was stolen over an 18-month period.

In a regulatory filing that gives the first detailed account of the breach initially disclosed in January, the owner of T.J. Maxx, Marshall's and other stores in North America and the United Kingdom also said another 455,000 customers who returned merchandise without receipts had their personal data stolen, including driver's license numbers.

Click here to visit FOXBusiness.com's Identity Theft Center.

The data that was stolen covers transactions dating as far back as December 2002, TJX said in the filing Wednesday with the Securities and Exchange Commission.

TJX spokeswoman Sherry Lang did not immediately return a telephone message from The Associated Press seeking comment late Wednesday.

But Lang told The Boston Globe, which first reported the filing Wednesday night, that about 75 percent of the compromised cards either were expired or had data from their magnetic stripes masked, meaning the data was stored as asterisks, rather than numbers.

Lang said the extent of the damage may never be known because of the methods used by the intruder. Much of the transaction data was deleted by TJX in the normal course of business between the time of the thefts and the time they were discovered, the filing said, making it impossible to know how many card numbers were obtained.

"There's a lot we may never know and it's one of the difficulties of this investigation," Lang said. "It's why this has taken this long and why it's been so tedious. It's painstaking."[snip]

This was obviously done over a long period of time, in many locations," she said. "It's done considerable damage."

Police charged six people in Florida last week with using credit card numbers stolen from a TJX database to buy about $1 million in merchandise with gift cards.

In Wednesday's filing, TJX said for the first time that Dec. 18, 2006, was the date it first learned that there was suspicious software on its computer system.

TJX said it believes hackers invaded its systems in July 2005, on later dates in 2005 and also from mid-May 2006 to mid-January 2007. The company said no customer information was stolen after Dec. 18, one day before it hired General Dynamics Corp. and IBM Corp. (IBM) to investigate. By Dec. 21, those investigators determined that the computer systems had been breached and that an intruder remained on the systems.

TJX said it notified federal authorities Dec. 22, and on Jan. 3, TJX officials and Secret Service agents met with banks and payment card and check processing companies to discuss the computer intrusion.[snip]

Framingham-based TJX is facing an investigation by the Federal Trade Commission and lawsuits from individuals and banks accusing it of failing to do enough to safeguard private data and of delaying disclosure of the problem.

Castro ends 8-month silence to slam US ethanol plans

Uh oh, I agree with Castro?

From M&C News:

Ending eight months of silence, ailing Cuban President Fidel Castro published an article in Cuban state media Thursday criticizing US environmental policies, and in particular plans to boost the use of ethanol.

'The sinister idea of converting food into fuel has definitely been established as an economic lineament in US foreign policy,' the Cuban leader wrote, arguing that US President George W Bush's support for using crops to produce ethanol for automobiles in rich nations could deplete food stocks in developing countries.[snip]
'More than 3 billion people in the world condemned to premature death by hunger and thirst,' read the headline of Castro's article.[snip]
In the article, Castro warned that the plans to convert products like corn, sugar cane or soy into ethanol for use as fuel additives could cause serious ecological damage and would adversely affect the third world population.[snip]
According to the Cuban leader, even if the US dedicated its entire corn production to the production of ethanol, there still would not be enough ethanol for its fuel needs.

'If you apply this recipe in Third World countries, you'll see how many people of the hungry masses of our planet will stop eating corn. Or even worse: finance poor countries to produce ethanol from corn and there won't even be one tree to defend humanity of the climate change,' Castro wrote.

The Cuban president said instead of these policies, countries should concentrate on other ways of saving energy, as Cuba does.

'All the countries in the world, poor and rich, could save millions and millions of dollars just by changing all incandescent light bulbs into fluorescent ones, something Cuba has been doing in all homes. That would give climate change a break without starving the poor masses of the world,' said Castro, who in the past few years has made ecology one of his major interests.
I said it before I think turning food into combustible fuel is a profoundly bad idea. We have already seen protests in Mexico over the increase in the price of corn tortillas, the staple of the Mexican poor. There is only so much land available for growing crops and it should go to feed humans, not cars.

This is what I mean about not thinking through ideas thoroughly, before accepting them. It sounds good to turn corn and sugar into combustible fuel, but people cannot eat crude oil, engines can.

You don't think this will affect you? Well, think again, because everything we feed corn to will go up in price, including meat, corn, sugar, milk and baked goods.

Congratulations, for turning a theoretical problem of global warming into a very real problem of world hunger.

Inside look at Senate & White House Immigration Reform proposal

Cross posted from Bear Creek Ledger

From Roy Beck of Numbers USA email we get some of the skivvy with the new Senate/White House plan for immigration reform scamnesty.

QUICK OVERVIEW

Our analysis here is based on the 23-slide Power Point show the White House has been giving Members of Congress the last couple of days, and on our interviews with Members who got the presentation.

* This new plan espouses several key elements that NumbersUSA has been pushing for years. It calls for (1) an end to chain migration, (2) an end to the lottery, (3) strong enforcement against future illegal immigration, (4) no path to green cards for new guest workers, (5) no family accompanying guest workers. It appears that all of your years of faxing, phoning and visiting — and your staff’s personal visits to Members and to the White House staff — have broken through on several fronts.

* But in nearly every case of good elements, the plan either lacks the details to ensure that these are implemented as advertised, or it has other provisions that knowingly or inadvertently undermine those good elements.

* It rewards most of the 12 million illegal aliens with the very things they broke immigration laws to obtain.

* It is nearly oblivous to the costs of low-skilled foreign workers to American taxpayers.

It would impose trillions of dollars of costs on American citizens. Inexplicably, it would dramatically increase the number of low skilled foreign workers in the country, even though a new Heritage Foundation study has found that each household headed by such a worker saddles Americans with a net of $22,000 extra in welfare and other government benefits.

* It would increase annual immigration by at least 50%.

Current annual immigration already is running 400% of traditional U.S. averages. This plan would boost annual numbers to at least six times what they were in the 1950s and 1960s.

* It is totally insensitive to the deterioration in the quality of life for most Americans who would see their communities forced to accommodate another 200 million people because of immigration by mid-century.

And there is not a single indication of concern about what a half-billion American population in 2050 would do to natural habitats in the U.S., to global environmental factors or to the nation’s ability to have enough energy supplies.

* The needs and lives of American workers are largely ignored.
This is a plan drawn up almost entirely for the sake of businesses desiring to globalize their laborforce in order to hold wages down toward global averages.

IS IT AN AMNESTY FOR 12 MILLION ILLEGAL ALIENS?

YES.

Buried in the 23 pages of White House talking points is the promise that nearly all illegal aliens are expected to get a path to U.S. citizenship!

It basically makes liars of many of the staffers you have talked to by phone this week who claimed that there is no way their boss would ever support an amnesty and who claimed their boss wasn’t involved in amnesty discussions with the White House.

Any Senator who comes out in support of this new White House plan will be in support of an amnesty.

You need to make sure your Senators’ offices know that when you call today.

Reading the White House outline, it is clear that the negotiators tried very hard to create enough hoops and loops so they could try to claim they aren’t supporting an amnesty.

But consider this:

* Nearly all of the official 12 million illegal aliens would be allowed to immediately apply for a “Z Visa.” That visa allows them to live and work legally in the United States for three years. That is what they broke the law to obtain. And they would get it. All they have to do is pay a $2,000 fine and a $1,500 processing fee. How many billions of people in the world would gladly pay $3,500 for the chance to work in the U.S.?

* The illegal aliens can renew the Z Visa every three years — for the rest of their lives. They just have to pay the $3,500 every three years. But in order to get the first renewal, the illegal aliens would have to show progress toward assimilation by passing an English and civics test.

* The illegal aliens with Z Visas are fully eligible for free, taxpayer-subsidized secondary education and emergency social service.

* At any time, illegal aliens can apply for a path to U.S. citizenship. The only thing that will slow them down is they will have to leave the country to be screened for security and will have to pay a $2,000 application fee and another $8,000 when their permanent residency is approved. The White House’s Power Point slide states that nearly all illegal aliens are expected to eventually win this permanent residency and path to U.S. citizenship.

NEW HERITAGE FOUNDATION FINDINGS ON COST OF FOREIGN WORKERS FOR AMERICANS

Robert Rector of the Heritage Foundation has just finished a study that makes the White House plan for big increases in low-skill labor sound like a plot to bankrupt America.

The study looked at households headed by high-school drop-outs.

It found high school drop-outs accounted for about:

* 9% of native-born Americans
* 25% of legal immigrants
* 50% of illegal aliens

The new Bush/Republican Senator plan would dramatically increase the number of legal immigrant drop-outs and make sure that millions of illegal drop-outs stayed in our country.

The cost to Americans will be staggering.

Rector found that the share of federal, state and local costs for each of these high-school-dropout households is around $43,000 a year.

But he subtracted out their share of defense and interest on debt, concluding that:

THE INCREMENTAL FEDERAL, STATE AND LOCAL EXPENDITURES FOR EACH HOUSEHOLD HEADED BY A HIGH-SCHOOL DROPOUT IS AROUND

$32,000 a year in government support

The Heritage Foundation scholar then painstakingly dug through government data to find every kind of tax that these households pay. He even included money spent on lottery tickets ($686 per year) and excise taxes, as well as FICA and property taxes and many others.

He said he was a bit surprised to find that these high-school-dropout households pay more taxes than he expected:

Nearly $10,000 a year in taxes

Nonetheless, the bottom line is that these households require:

$22,000 each year in net taxpayer subsidies

Why would our elected officials want to import foreign workers who require such huge infusions of taxpayer cash?

And why would they be proposing increasing that flow?

Even more astounding is that they want to force American taxpayers to continue to subsidize those who have come here illegally or broken our laws to stay.

Why would the Senate and House Democratic leadership — and now the White House and most Senate Republicans — want to keep these lawbreakers — every one of whose households will cost Americans an average net of $22,000 a year?

Rector’s study indicates that these total households headed by foreign-born high school drop-outs are costing taxpayers a net of around:

$100 BILLION a year

Yet, the new White House/Republican Senator immigration plan would ensure that all the illegal aliens getting that subsidy would remain to keep collecting …

… and that we would add large numbers of new households every year so that the total subsidy could grow much higher.

This Heritage Foundation Study makes it devastatingly clear that our current immigration policies amount to

BIGGEST UNFUNDED MANDATE ON LOCAL AND STATE GOVERNMENTS

Now, President Bush and apparently the majority of Republican Senators want to radically increase immigration’s costs for local and state governments (and their taxpayers)!

LOUSY RESULTS EMERGED FROM LOUSY PRINCIPLES

The White House sales pitch begins with a slide titled “FIRST PRINCIPLES.”

It isn’t so much what is stated but what is unstated that makes the principles so lousy.

Nothing about protecting the earning power of American workers and their ability to provide for their families.

Nothing about serving the national interest.

Nothing about protecting against taxpayer subsidies.

Nothing about keeping incentives for businesses to engage in productivity-enhancing innovation instead of relying on cheap labor.

Nothing about learning what the American people want and how immigration policies affect quality of life.

Nothing about protecting American students’ ability to seek careers in high-skill occupations.

As Sen. Jeff Session (R-Ala.) told the American Legion earlier this month: Most immigration proposals are nothing more than a collection of special-interest requests that have nothing to do with the national interest.

BOTTOM LINE ANALYSIS:

This highly negotiated plan has more than a dozen pet projects of various Senators.

Many of those pet projects are actually good ideas. But they have been assembled without regard to their overall effect on the American people.

In the end, the only clear purpose of this plan is that it serve the desires of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce professional lobbying class.

The plan would radically increase immigration numbers and forced population growth, congestion, chaos and regimentation on American communities and their residents.

It would impose astronomical costs upon the taxpayers in order to subsidize the businesses that make use of the foreign labor.

There are hopeful signs that this plan has a number of ingredients necessary to prevent most future illegal immigration.

But even if the loopholes in the plan’s enforcement provisions were closed, better enforcement against future illegal immigration doesn’t come close to justifying the damage inflicted on Americans by the amnesty and the immigration increases in the plan.

If you are not happy about this proposal then don’t be one of the SILENT MAJORITY! Call your Senator and Representative today to express your disapproval of the new Senate/White House proposal. Don’t be rude but be sure they understand you are not in favor of rewarding 12 to 20 million illegal aliens for their illegal actions.

Immigration legislation, it’s all smoke and mirrors

Cross posted from Right Truth

The image is from Michael Cutler’s article, “Congress Shadow Boxing with Illegal Immigration Crisis” discussing the latest attempts at immigration reform in congress. It’s a very good article and you should go read it all. He discusses the Guest Worker Amnesty program, the step-across-the-border-and-back-again citizenship, the the Real ID Act

Mexiforniadl325w

Mr. Cutler quotes some very interesting statistics from a report for the Center for Immigration Studies by George J. Borjas, a noted economist and the Robert W. Scrivner Professor of Economics and Social Policy at the John F. Kennedy School of Government, Harvard University.

To sum up some of Prof. Borjas’ findings:

• By increasing the supply of labor between 1980 and 2000, immigration reduced the average annual earnings of native-born men by an estimated $1,700 or roughly 4 percent.• Among natives without a high school education, who roughly correspond to the poorest tenth of the workforce, the estimated impact was even larger, reducing their wages by 7.4 percent.

• The 10 million native-born workers without a high school degree face the most competition from immigrants, as do the eight million younger natives with only a high school education and 12 million younger college graduates.

• The negative effect on native-born black and Hispanic workers is significantly larger than on whites because a much larger share of minorities are in direct competition with immigrants.

• The reduction in earnings occurs regardless of whether the immigrants are legal or illegal, permanent
or temporary. It is the presence of additional workers that reduces wages, not their legal status.

His report was prepared in 2004. Obviously, the rapid increase in the number of illegal aliens in the United States can only have exacerbated the impact on wages since then. What I find particularly interesting is that in the news article, the AFL-CIO complains that the proposed legislation would permit 400,000 additional alien workers to enter the United States resulting in depressed wages for the labor market. (read it all)
It seems pretty clear to me, so why is congress having such a difficult time passing legislation? I’ll tell you why, because they have no intention of passing a comprehensive immigration bill before the 2008 presidential elections. It’s that simple.

STRIVE (HR 1645) Opens the floodgates for illegal aliens

Cross posted from Bear Creek Ledger

STRIVE (Security Through Regularized Immigration & a Vibrant Economy) sponsored by Rep. Luis Gutierrez (D,IL) and Rep. Jeff Flake (R,AZ) pretty much opens the floodgates for illegal aliens to become “documented”.

Points of the bill:
1. Every illegal alien who’s here would be eligible to start down the road of citizenship.

2. Pay a fine of $2,000.

3. Pass a superficial criminal background check (without knowing the read identity this will produce nothing)

4. Creates a “Worker Importation Plan” for 400,000 more guest workers and all would be permitted to stay.

5. Any illegal not covered in this amnesty could qualify for the “AGJobs Amnesty”

6. Includes amnesty for any illegal who received a US taxpayer funded GED or HS diploma.

From Mike Cutler with the Center for Immigration Studies:

At present, the requirements of the Real ID Act are that United States citizens and resident aliens (lawful immigrants) must provide significant documentation as proof of their identities in order to apply for driver’s licenses. These stringent requirements derive from the findings of the Presidential Commission on the Terrorist Attacks Upon the United States on September 11, 2001.The 911 Commission found that the 19 terrorists used 364 aliases, in the aggregate, in order to conceal their true identities. They managed to obtain a number of driver’s licenses in false identities in furtherance of this effort. The Real ID Act is designed to help plug that major hole in our nation’s security. The Guest Worker Amnesty Program, whether it includes a pathway to United States citizenship, would defeat the intention of the REAL ID Act and would require our government to provide millions of illegal aliens with official identity documents to present to employers, to the Social Security Administration, to banks and even to libraries and other organizations that require applicants to provide photo identity documents.

These Guest Worker identity documents would, no doubt, enable the bearer to gain access to airliners, trains and supposedly secure government and private office buildings. While these cards are touted as being highly resistant to counterfeiting and alteration, the process by which they would be issued is fatally flawed. The problem is that USCIS is the agency responsible for issuing these cards. The millions of illegal aliens who would apply for these cards will, in many instances, be undocumented aliens. This means that they will not have official identity documents to start with! Therefore, how would the bureaucrats at USCIS know who these applicants are?

This is a severely wrong-headed program.

Each day many thousands of illegal and undocumented aliens can be expected to line up in front of immigration offices around the country seeking those highly valued ID cards which would enable them to work, travel and live “normally” amongst us, even though we would have no way of verifying their true names, dates of birth, dates of entry into the United States or other such critically important information. In fact, our bureaucrats would not even be able to verify the true nationality of many of these undocumented illegal aliens.

As a reminder the agency responsible for verification of the identity of aliens lost 111,000 immigration alien files.

FDA Warns Again About Arsenic in Mineral Water

Mineral water is good for you...

From the FDA:

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is re-issuing its warning to consumers not to drink "Jermuk" brand mineral water due to the risk of exposure to arsenic, a toxic substance and a known cause of cancer in humans. The agency is providing this information again to consumers due to an expansion of the recall initiated by the products' importers and distributors. "Jermuk" water is imported from Armenia and distributed under different labels in California. Five brands of these products have been recalled since March 7.

The latest recall, which was initiated on March 16 by the product's distributor, Andreas Andreasyan DBA Arnaz & Nelli Co., North Hollywood, CA., is for "Jermuk Natural Mineral Water Fortified with Gas from the Spring". This product is additionally labeled as "Produced by Sam-Har Co. Republic of Armenia" and "Exclusive Distributor in USA: Arnaz & Nelli Inc., CA 91605".

Although arsenic is a well known human poison, there is little chance that someone would become seriously ill after consuming the recalled products over a brief period of time (days to weeks). However, it is likely that the person would experience nausea, abdominal pain and possibly vomiting, which are indicators of arsenic toxicity.

FDA has sampled the contents of 500 milliliter (mL) green glass and/or plastic bottles of all of these brands and found they contained 454-674 micrograms of arsenic per liter of water. FDA's standard of quality for bottled water allows no more than 10 micrograms per liter.

The agency is investigating whether other bottle sizes or types of packaging contain similarly tainted products, and will continue working to remove all such bottled water from the market.

There have been no illnesses reported at this time. Consumers who drank this water and have concerns are encouraged to contact their health care provider.

FDA may provide additional updates as more information becomes available.

The following products were recalled on March 7:

  • "Jermuk Original Sparkling Natural Mineral Water Fortified With Natural Gas From The Spring". The product is in glass bottles and is additionally labeled as "2006 Jermuk Mayr Gortsaran CJSC" and "Imported by: Zetlian Bakery Inc." The importer and distributor is Zetlian Bakery, Inc., Pico Rivera, CA.
  • "JERMUK,1951, NATURAL MINERAL WATER, JERMUK MAYR GORTSARAN CJSC." The product is in plastic bottles which are additionally labeled as "Imported by: Zetlian Bakery Inc." The importer and distributor is Zetlian Bakery, Inc., Pico Rivera, CA.
  • "Jermuk Sodium Calcium Bicarbonate and Sulphate Mineral Water". The product is additionally labeled as "Bottled by ARPI Plant, Republic of Armenia" and "Exclusive US importer and distributor: Importers Direct Wholesale Co., Los Angeles, CA". The product is being recalled by Importers Direct Wholesale Company, Los Angeles, CA.
  • "Jermuk, Natural Mineral Water Sparkling". The product, recalled on March 7 is additionally labeled as "Bottled by Jermuk Group CJSC" and "Sale Agent Kradjian Importing Co. Inc." in Glendale, CA. The product is being recalled by Kradjian Importing Company, Glendale, CA.

FDA Launches Web Page Warning Against Buying Accutane

I went to the FDA looking for more info on the pet food recall and found some important info...

From the FDA:

The U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA) is launching a special Web page to warn consumers about the dangers of buying isotretinoin (Accutane) online. Isotretinoin is a drug approved for the treatment of severe recalcitrant nodular acne that does not respond to antibiotics. Improperly used, isotretinoin can cause severe side effects, including birth defects. Serious mental health problems have also been reported with isotretinoin use.

The Web page, http://www.fda.gov/buyonline/accutane, will be positioned as a search result on Google and other search engines when a consumer initiates an online search for the drug under any one of its four names (Isotretinoin is sold under the brand name of Accutane and in generic versions called Amnesteem, Claravis, and Sotret.) The web page warns that the drug "should only be taken under the close supervision" of a physician or a pharmacist, and provides links to helpful information, including ways to check that drugs purchased online come from legitimate pharmacies.

"This Web page is yet another step we're taking to ensure the safe use of a drug that can provide significant health benefits when used properly, but that can also cause very serious side effects if used without supervision of a health professional," said Steven Galson, M.D.,M.P.H., Director, FDA's Center for Drug Evaluation and Research.

FDA Announces Voluntary Withdrawal of Pergolide Products

Just a heads up...

From the FDA:

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) today announced that manufacturers of pergolide drug products, which are used to treat Parkinson’s disease, will voluntarily remove these drugs from the market because of the risk of serious damage to patients’ heart valves.

The products being withdrawn are Permax, the trade name for pergolide marketed by Valeant Pharmaceuticals, and two generic versions of pergolide manufactured by Par and Teva. Pergolide is in a class of medications called dopamine agonists and is used with levodopa and carbidopa to manage the symptoms (tremors and slowness of movement) of Parkinson’s disease.

In 2006, an estimated 12,000 patients received prescriptions for pergolide from retail pharmacies in the United States. Patients taking pergolide should contact their doctors to discuss alternate treatments. Patients should not stop taking the medication, as stopping pergolide abruptly can be dangerous.

There are alternative therapies available for Parkinson’s disease, including three other dopamine agonists that have not been associated with valvular heart disease. The removal of pergolide products is not expected to adversely affect patient care because of the alternative therapies available.

China has gained and tested array of space weapons

I warned everyone about china's space ambitions...

From The Washington Times:

China is developing an "impressive" array of space weapons, including missiles and jammers, and is moving toward placing nuclear weapons in space to attack U.S. satellites, the commander of U.S. strategic forces told the Senate yesterday.
The Chinese military has "undertaken what we would call a very disciplined and comprehensive continuum of capability against ... our space capabilities," Marine Corps Gen. James Cartwright yesterday told the Senate Armed Services strategic forces subcommittee.
Their capabilities go "all the way from temporary and reversible effects -- [Global Positioning System] jamming, things like that, [communications] jamming, all the way through direct ascent ASAT," he said, referring to anti-satellite weapons. "Eventually, they'll probably be looking at co-orbital" weapons -- missiles that orbit near a satellite and then explode.
I cannot reproduce the whole article and you really need to read the whole thing.

This is why funding for the space program and going back to the moon is so important. china has plans for a moon base, has space weapons and is not our friend. The General questions whether or not this should spark a space race? What has happened to our country? China is ahead of us in space weaponry and we shouldn't respond? What happened to the country that wanted to be the first to put a man on the moon? In my opinion, we had better not only get into the race, we better win it.

Interview with Darlene Fitzgerald (Law Darlene) a Customs Special agent Whistleblower, Author of BorderGate and all around Patriot. Don't miss this Show!

There is a cancer growing on the Department of Homeland Security (DHS). The best and brightest agents we have are being systematically harassed out of DHS. This is a story of bureaucracy run amok at the expense of our national security. We are less safe now than before “9-11”, even though billions of taxpayer dollars have been spent. Why? This is the gripping true story of National Security Whistleblowers and their courageous fight for justice against the very people who are supposed to be protecting us. If these whistleblowers lose their fight we all lose. What America’s enemies have not been able to accomplish will be done instead from within our own government.

'Will India Destroy the United States?'

From News by Us:

The title to this article may sound extreme. You be the judge. After responding recently to articles about the Indian invasion of America, I was finally encouraged to write an article about my experiences in the high-tech industry. Because of severance agreements, the names of my former company and former coworkers have been changed.

I am a computer programmer, and have been for 15 years. I worked for a company TechnoDataCode in California for 6 years, and I was the director of one of the R&D projects.

About a year ago, most of the other American employees and I were fired and replaced with people from India on H-1B and L-1 visas. The people from India were making only a fraction of what we Americans were making. I was making $110K a year; my replacement, $37K. The people under me were making about $75K; their replacements, about $29K.

To keep my severance pay, I was required to stay on for an additional six months (after the other Americans were fired) to train the replacements. This was probably the most humiliating experience of my life.

What I describe above is happening now every day. Many of my friends in high-tech have also recently been fired, and are being replaced with cheap imported labor from India or China. Microsoft says there is a “high-tech shortage,” which is a lie. Almost every American programmer I know is now unemployed and has been replaced by a cheap import. There is not a “shortage.” Big business only wants more cheap labor.

But the story only gets better....

You would think that the Indians would be appreciative of being allowed to work in the United States, but this was very far from the case. Most of their conversations involved extreme hatred of America, Americans, and anyone of European descent.

Here are some examples of their daily conversations:

* Indians are the real “Aryans.” The Human Genome Project shows that Indians are closely related to Africans. Thus Indians and Africans are the real “Aryans.”

* All people of European descent (i.e. all whites) must be exterminated

* Blond hair and blue eyes are inferior traits. By the year 2090, all people with blond hair and blue eyes will either be bred or executed out of existence.

* One day India will invade and take over. It is India’s destiny to rule over whites.

* Christianity is a disease that can only be cured with a bullet

Although most of the Indians were Hindu, a few were Muslim, and they were quite openly fond of Bin Laden. The Hindus, however, seemed to hate white Americans just as much as if not more than the Muslims. On this they could agree.

And then there is the story about Praveen.

Praveen, a Hindu from Northern India, was often very “touchy” with me and the other Americans. He was always shaking our hands and patting us on the backs. I noticed too that after touching me he often left “red marks” on my clothes, and on others’ clothes.

There was also a break room that only a few Americans frequented. (Indians never visited it.) And Praveen was always in there tampering with the coffee machine.

After seeing him one day pricking himself with a safety pin to make himself bleed, it all came together. He was trying to transmit his blood to others - either by direct contact or by putting it in the coffee machine.

Come to find out, he was HIV+ and was trying to transmit it to the Americans.

Praveen went back to India shortly after that, so no criminal action was able to be taken. But a few of the other Indians did transmit HIV to a couple of the American women - and seemed very proud of it.

Management of the company was informed of this, but they did very little to look into it. When I told our CEO that I suspected that the Indians were spreading HIV around the workers, he called me a “racist” and told me to be quiet.

I’m sure he was aware of what was going on - but simply did not care. Cheap labor is cheap labor, that that is the bottom line for big business.

The only loyalty of big business is profit, and they could care less about American workers, American values, or the well-being of the United States.

And what about the future of America?

Are we going to auction off every American job to low-paid imports until there are no good American jobs left? Are we going to let third-world hordes take over our high-tech sector until not a single American is left in any important position?

The only effective and patriotic way to stop this is by massive deportations of all the cheap labor from India and China. Otherwise, with the help of big business, we are well on our way to becoming a third-world country.

Illegal Aliens DEMANDING Citizenship Is Akin to…

Cross posted from Illegal Aliens Must Go

By John W. Lillpop

Watching millions of illegal aliens demanding citizenship and full rights is truly mind-boggling because it is hard to imagine that many Special Ed losers coming together in such dramatic fashion.

Yet there they were: Millions of idiots made whole only by their shared hysteria for the Mexican flag and Spanish-language mutilation of the star-spangled banner.

Severe psychosis motivates these nut cases to eschew the Melting Pot concept in favor of Mexican Meltdown.

Just how outrageous are the demands of illegal aliens? Consider some parallel thinking:

-A bank robber DEMANDS interest on the $100,000 taken at gun point during his “undocumented withdrawal”

-A convicted murderer DEMANDS a share of the proceeds from his victim’s life insurance payoff

-A castrated pedophile inmate DEMANDS a tax write-off for his “Organ Donation”

-A Muslim cleric DEMANDS the WTC 9/11 memorial include references to Allah, the Quaran, and the ‘Religion of Peace’

-Just before undergoing a partial-birth abortion, a liberal mother DEMANDS that a Catholic priest conduct a “last rites” ceremony for the soon-to-be pulverized fetus

Still, illegal aliens appear to have solid allies with just about all Democrats and the liberal media.

But I already mentioned psychotics, didn’t I?

Vicente Fox Concerned About American Economy!

Cross posted from Red hot Cuppa Politics

Vincente Fox, ex-president of Mexico, is retired these days. I guess he’s got time to travel.

From KSAT, out of San Antonio:

SAN ANTONIO — During a visit to San Antonio, former Mexican President Vicente Fox said Tuesday he’s concerned about dozens of immigration bills to be discussed at a hearing scheduled for Wednesday at the State Capitol.
He said he’s particularly concerned about House Bill 28, which if passed, would restrict employment and health care benefits for children of immigrants in Texas, including children born on American soil.

“That’s absolutely crazy, unfair, immoral,” Fox said. “Immigrants here in the U.S. contribute strongly to the productivity and the ability of this economy.”

Isn’t it sweet of him to be thoughtful of the American economy? What a prince!!!

I agree with John Lillpop — let’s send our Baby Boomers to be undocumented illegals to Mexico!!! I bet there’s alot of folks who’d donate to buy Jane Fonda across the Rio Grande, where she can protest for the right to have all the Mexican road signs in English!!!

Rosie: Captured Brits a hoax to provoke war

What can I say...

From WND:

In yet another provocative claim, TV host Rosie O'Donnell implied yesterday the Iranian seizure of British sailors was a hoax to provide President Bush with an excuse to go to war with Tehran.

In a discussion about the 15 British personnel seized Friday for allegedly entering Iranian waters, the controversial co-host of ABC's "The View" correlated the event to the Gulf of Tonkin incident that propelled the U.S. into the Vietnam War. President Johnson's administration was accused of provoking one incident in 1964 in the Gulf of Tonkin and making up another as a pretext for war.

O'Donnell, according to the media watchdog Newsbusters, said: "But interesting with the British sailors, there were 15 British sailors and Marines who apparently went into Iranian waters and they were seized by the Iranians. And I have one thing to say: Gulf of Tonkin, Google it. Okay."
After O'Donnell's comment, the dialogue when like this:

JOY BEHAR: Some other time. Some other time.

O'DONNELL: Well, you know...

BARBARA WALTERS: It could be a decision-making time. It's a very difficult situation. It's at the United Nations. It's being examined now. Should there be sanctions? Militarily, we certainly don't seem to be in the position to do something militarily. But it is a decision-making time.

O'DONNELL: Yes, but it's very interesting too that, you know, these guys, they went into the water by mistake right at a time when British and American, you know, they're two, they're pretty much our biggest ally and we're considering whether or not we should go into war with Iran.

BEHAR: But the U.N. was about to sanction them, also have an embargo against Iran. And the, and the timing [unintelligible] so they distracted the whole world with this.

ELISABETH HASSELBECK: Right and they may be about to expel the inspectors right now, too, which could be considered [unintelligible]

O'DONNELL: Right or it could be just the Gulf of Tonkin, which you should all Google.

Really, what can I say? People that believe like this think that we are crazy! ROTFLMAO!

Senate OKs war bill with Iraq timeline

Son of a...

From the AP:

Senate Democrats ignored a veto threat and pushed through a bill Thursday requiring
President Bush to start withdrawing troops from "the civil war in
Iraq," dealing a rare, sharp rebuke to a wartime commander in chief.

In a mostly party line 51-47 vote, the Senate signed off on a bill providing $123 billion to pay for the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. It also orders Bush to begin withdrawing troops within 120 days of passage while setting a nonbinding goal of ending combat operations by March 31, 2008.[snip]
Forty-eight Democrats and independent Bernard Sanders (news, bio, voting record) of Vermont were joined by two Republicans, Chuck Hagel of Nebraska and Gordon Smith of Oregon, in voting for the measure. Opposed were 46 Republicans and Connecticut independent Joseph Lieberman.

Sens. Mike Enzi, R-Wy., and Tim Johnson, D-S.D., did not vote.

I never thought they could get this out of the Senate. A time line to pull our troops out of Iraq, another defeat for the U.S. I guess the democrats, who voted in lock step, are not tired of losing wars. They are not tired of ensuring the U.S. has no teeth in foreign policy.

The President is going to veto this Bill and they know it. Then Harry "Droopy Dog" Reid and Nancy "Shrieker of the House" Pelosi will say that Bush defunded the troops because he vetoed a Bill TELLING the President how to run the war. They have no right, to tell the President anything about how to run the war. Congress, decides whether or not to go to war, or to continue it after 60 days, and then the President, as commander in chief, prosecutes the war.

Let's just add the icing on the cake and add over 20 Billion Dollars in PORK spending to the Bill!!

I have had it with the hezbocrats. It is time to change their party's name to the socialist party.

Another Way Americans Pay for Illegal Immigration

Cross posted from The Peoples Patriot Blog

Like oxygen, the American people need money to live. Often times the majority of the money we use to get by in life, is borrowed. If you accept this premise, then you will agree that the cost of money in the form of interest rates, has a direct impact on the financial lifestyles of all Americans. It’s easier to improve one’s lifestyle when the cost of money is low.

The Federal Reserve controls the cost of money in the United States. They determine, based on various economic data, the level of short term interest rates. Basically when the economy is strong as evidenced by high employment rates and prices that are rising based upon inflation rates, the Fed will raise the cost of money to slow down the economy to ward off inflation.

In June of 2003, the federal funds rate, one of the rates the Fed controls, bottomed out at 1.00%. Since that time, the Fed has raised this interest rate, a direct reflection of the overall cost of money, seventeen times. Since June of 2003, the federal funds rate has risen 525% to 5.25%.

Based on the Federal Reserve’s rate increases, one would believe that the last four years have been an economic Nirvana. However, talking to average Americans about their finances would indicate otherwise. In this current climate of rising prices, the most profound in the housing market, the average blue collar worker in America has seen wages flatten or decrease. In some cases, Americans have been victims of outright job displacement. So why then have interest rates or the cost of money continue to rise, making life even more difficult for the typical U.S. citizen?

As I write this, the stock market has plunged 135 points. The reason given is that Ben Bernanke the Chairman of the Federal Reserve made comments that would erase any optimism for a decrease in the cost of money (interest rate cut).

“Overall, the economy appears likely to continue to expand at a moderate pace over coming quarters,” he said.

One big risk: “core inflation remains uncomfortably high,” he said. However, core inflation “seems likely to moderate gradually over time,” he said.

He noted that higher rents had been a major factor in the acceleration of core inflation. He expected that force to dissipate.

It’s estimated that we have approximately 20 million illegal aliens in this country. While the likes of anti American companies like Bank of America try to profit from illegal aliens by providing them with loans, the vast majority of illegal aliens are renters. There is no doubt in my mind that these twenty million people are directly responsible for the strong rent component of the core inflation figures. That is to say that they have driven up housing costs not only in the ownership market but especially in the rental market.

It’s bad enough that American renters have to pay higher rents due to competing with 20 million illegal aliens, many living fifteen to twenty per household in violation of zoning laws. To add insult to injury, all Americans are faced with a higher cost of money. High cost of money equals a lower lifestyle. This is another way the American people are forced to pay for the elitist’s cheap illegal alien labor.

Price inflation isn’t the only indicator the fed uses to regulate the cost of money. Another very important component used in monetary policy is employment data. When jobs are being created at a strong pace, the economy is considered strong. When the economy is strong, the Federal Reserve does not decrease the cost of money. When it’s real strong, they will raise interest rates.

In December 2006, according to the monthly household employment survey, the economy created 303,000 new jobs. The financial community was expecting 100,000 new jobs. Sounds great doesn’t it? Everyone that wants a job should have one. However, if we take a look at the who is getting those jobs it paints a less rosy picture. Add to that with numbers like these, the cost of money or interest rates will remain high.

Here is an ethnic breakdown of the December jobs numbers.

  • Total: +303,000 (+0.21 percent)
  • Hispanic: +178,000 (+0.89 percent)
  • Non-Hispanic: +125,000 (+0.10 percent)

In December 2006, as evidenced by the above numbers, 6 in 10 jobs went to Hispanic workers. Hispanic workers represent 14% of the total U.S. work force. The overall unemployment rate held steady at 4.5% while Hispanic unemployment dropped .1% and non-Hispanic unemployment rose .1%.

If it weren’t enough that 6 in 10 jobs went to 14% of the work force, many of which are deemed illegal, the creation of these jobs in and of itself gives reason for the Federal Reserve to keep the cost of money relatively high, thus inflicting financial misery on all Americans. Not only have Americans been displaced in the work force and/or have had wages suppressed due to illegal alien employment, every American that borrows money had to pay a higher cost for borrowing as well. This is just another way our government degrades our lifestyles by allowing illegal immigration to flourish.

Like a cancer that invades a body, the effects of which can be vast and all consuming, illegal alien labor has both obvious and not so obvious affects on America and it’s citizens. In the end, should the cancer go untreated, it consumes the body by killing it. The need to treat this national form of cancer has reached a critical proportions. The life of the American “body” depends on it. The lives of the American people depend on it as well.

Iran shows video of captured Britons

From the AP:

Iranian state TV showed video Wednesday of the 15 British sailors and marines who were seized last week, including a female captive who wore a white tunic and a black head scarf and said the British boats "had trespassed" in Iranian waters.

Britain's military said its vessels were 1.7 nautical miles inside Iraqi waters when Iran seized the sailors and marines on Friday after they completed a search of a civilian vessel in the Iraqi part of the Shatt al-Arab waterway. The border between Iran and Iraq has been disputed for centuries.

Even more important...

Vice Adm. Charles Style told reporters that the Iranians had provided a position on Sunday — a location that he said was in Iraqi waters. By Tuesday, Iranian officials had given a revised position two miles east, placing the British inside Iranian waters — a claim he said was not verified by global positioning system coordinates.

"It is hard to understand a legitimate reason for this change of coordinates," Style said.

Style gave the satellite coordinates of the British crew as 29 degrees 50.36 minutes north latitude and 048 degrees 43.08 minutes east longitude, and said it had been confirmed by an Indian-flagged merchant ship boarded by the sailors and marines.

Gee, imagine that, their first coordinates were inside Iraqi waters and later it was revised two miles east. Hmm, quite a coincidence, wouldn't you say?

Not that it matters all that much to me, because this is not how countries NOT AT WAR behave.

Iranian Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki denied this, saying, "That's not true. It happened in Iranian territorial waters."

Mottaki also told The Associated Press in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, that Turney would be released Wednesday or Thursday, and he suggested that the British vessels' alleged entry into Iranian waters may have been a mistake.

"This is a violation that just happened. It could be natural. They did not resist," he told the AP.

"Today or tomorrow, the lady will be released," Mottaki said Wednesday on the sidelines of an Arab summit in the Saudi capital, referring to Turney, the only woman among the 15.

So, why just the female? Enter the weakest link of the crew..

"Obviously we trespassed into their waters," British sailor Faye Turney said on the video broadcast by Al-Alam, an Arabic-language, Iranian state-run television station that is carried across the Middle East.

"They were very friendly and very hospitable, very thoughtful, nice people. They explained to us why we've been arrested, there was no harm, no aggression," she said.

Turney, 26, was shown eating with sailors and marines. At another point, she was seen sitting in a room with a floral curtains, smoking a cigarette.

"My name is leading sailman Faye Turney. I come from England. I have served in Foxtrot 99. I've been in the navy for nine years," she said.

Turney was the only person to be shown speaking in the video.

It also showed what appeared to be a handwritten letter from Turney to her family. The letter said, in part, "I have written a letter to the Iranian people to apologize for us entering their waters."

The video also showed a brief scene of what appeared to be the British crew sitting in an Iranian boat in open waters immediately after their capture.

A yup, this letter and statement was made without coercion I am sure.

And this is why civilized countries do not behave like this...

Prime Minister Tony Blair told the House of Commons that "there was no justification whatever ... for their detention, it was completely unacceptable, wrong and illegal."

"We had hoped to see their immediate release; this has not happened. It is now time to ratchet up the diplomatic and international pressure in order to make sure the Iranian government understands its total isolation on this issue," Blair said.

Foreign Secretary Margaret Beckett said she had suspended bilateral talks on all other issues with Tehran until the 15 were released. Visits by officials will be stopped, issuing visas to Iranian officials suspended and British support for events such as trade missions put on hold, her office said.

"No one should be in any doubt about the seriousness with which we regard these events," Beckett told the House of Commons.

Beckett said Britain had now begun a "new phase of diplomatic activity," following Iran's failure to release the sailors and marines, or allow British officials access.

See, we do not respond well to acts of war. But, this should come as no surprise to anyone. you might remember the Iran hostage situation in the eighties that only ended when Ronald Reagan got elected and Dhimmi Jimmy Carter ousted. Abbadabbadoodoo was the chief hostage taker back then.

Iran is feeling the pressure of the sanctions already. They are rationing gas to their people and the regime is losing the support of the people and possibly even the mullahs. They want something from this they are not likely to get. They must abandon their nuclear ambitions and that is that.

President's Radio Address March 24, 2007

From The White House:

Audio

Transcript:

THE PRESIDENT: Good morning. The position of U.S. Attorney is one of the most important jobs in the Justice Department. U.S. Attorneys are appointed by the President, and they play a leading role in prosecuting crime and protecting the public.

In recent months, the Justice Department determined that new leadership in several of these positions would better serve the country. I strongly support the Attorney General in this decision. I also appreciate the hard work and service of the U.S. Attorneys who resigned. And I regret that their resignations have turned into a public spectacle.

Earlier this week, my Administration presented to Congress a reasonable way forward that balances the constitutional prerogatives of the Presidency with Congress's interest in learning more facts behind the decision to replace eight of the 93 U.S. Attorneys.

Members of Congress now face a choice: whether they will waste time and provoke an unnecessary confrontation, or whether they will join us in working to do the people's business. We have many important issues before us. So we need to put partisan politics aside and come together to enact important legislation for the American people.

One of the most urgent legislative priorities is to fund our troops fighting the war on terror. I've asked Congress to pass an emergency war spending bill that gives our troops what they need, without strings and without delay. Instead, a narrow majority in the House of Representatives decided yesterday to make a political statement. The emergency war spending bill they voted for would cut the number of troops below the level our military commanders say they need to accomplish the mission. It would set an artificial timetable for withdrawal that would allow the enemy to wait us out. And it would require an army of lawyers to meet the conditions imposed by politicians in Washington who are substituting their own judgment for that of our generals in Iraq. I have made it clear that I will veto any such bill, and it is clear that my veto would be sustained.

To get the votes they needed to pass the bill, the Democrats who control the House also included billions of dollars in domestic and pork barrel spending for local congressional districts. This spending includes things like $74 million for peanut storage, $25 million for spinach growers, and a host of other spending items that have nothing to do with the war. Even with all this extra spending tacked on, the vote in the House was very close. This means that the Democrats do not have enough votes to override my veto.

By choosing to make a political statement and passing a bill they know will never become law, the Democrats in Congress have only delayed the delivery of the vital funds and resources our troops need. The clock is running. The Secretary of Defense has warned that if Congress does not approve the emergency funding for our troops by April 15, our men and women in uniform will face significant disruptions -- and so will their families. April 15 is also about the same time that Congress returns from its Easter vacation. Members of Congress need to put our troops first, not politics. They need to send me a clean bill, without conditions, without restrictions, and without pork.

This is an important moment for our Nation, and it is an important moment for the new Congress. My Administration has presented a reasonable way forward on the matter of U.S. Attorneys, and on ensuring that our men and women in uniform have the funds and the flexibility they need to win in Iraq. It is not too late for us to work together. For the good of our Nation, I ask the Democratic leaders in Congress to seize the opportunity before us and move beyond political statements to bipartisan action.

Thank you for listening.

U.S. Navy flexes muscles in Persian Gulf

Hooah!

From the Denver Post:

ABOARD THE USS JOHN C. STENNIS- American warplanes screamed off two aircraft carriers Tuesday as the U.S. Navy staged its largest show of force in the Persian Gulf since the 2003 invasion of Iraq, launching a mammoth exercise meant as a message to the Iranians.[snip]

"If there is strong presence, then it sends a clear message that you better be careful about trying to intimidate others," said Capt. Bradley Johanson, commander of the Stennis.

"Iran has adopted a very escalatory posture with the things that they have done," he added. [snip]

F/A-18 fighter jets roared off the Stennis' flight deck all day, mounting a dozen rapid-fire training sorties against imaginary enemy ships and aircraft. A second task force with the carrier USS Dwight D. Eisenhower also took part in the drills.

"These maneuvers demonstrate our flexibility and capability to respond to threats to maritime security," said Navy Lt. John Perkins, 32, of Louisville, Ky., as the Stennis cruised about 80 miles off the United Arab Emirates after entering the Persian Gulf overnight.

"They're showing we can keep the maritime environment safe and the vital link to the global economy open."

At the headquarters of the Navy's 5th Fleet in Bahrain, Cmdr. Kevin Aandahl said the maneuvers would last several days. He said U.S. warships would stay out of Iran's territorial waters, which extend 12 miles off the Iranian coast.

None of America's naval coalition partners in the region joined the maneuvers.

A French naval strike group, led by the aircraft carrier Charles de Gaulle, was operating just outside the Gulf in the Arabian Sea. But the French ships were supporting NATO forces in Afghanistan and not taking part in the U.S. maneuvers, Aandahl said.

At the Pentagon, spokesman Bryan Whitman said the Navy routinely conducts exercises when its forces are deployed near each other. [snip]

The war games involve more than 10,000 U.S. personnel mounting simulated attacks on enemy aircraft and ships, while hunting submarines and looking for mines.

"What it should be seen as by Iran or anyone else is that it's for regional stability and security," Aandahl said. "These ships are just another demonstration of that. If there's a destabilizing effect, it's Iran's behavior."

The U.S. drills were the latest in a series of competing American and Iranian war games. Iran conducted naval maneuvers in November and April, while in October the Navy led a training exercise aimed at blocking nuclear smuggling.

In January, Defense Secretary Robert Gates said the Stennis strike group was being sent to the Mideast as a warning to Iran that it should not misjudge America's resolve in the region.

Iran has grown increasingly assertive in the Persian Gulf as the U.S. military has become focused on the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. Iranian officials have publicly called on America's Arab allies to shut down U.S. military bases and join Iran in a regional security alliance.

I am a serious Hawk, so you know I am happy about this, but Iran does need to be reminded of their place. Meaning, in the greater scheme of things, you better be careful.

I just wish we all could watch the exercise. I think they should televise the exercises for the American people.

600,000 Fugitives Missing

Cross posted from Right Truth

Fugitive: (noun) a person who is fleeing, having taken flight. In this case we are talking about 600,000 foreigners who have been ordered out of the United States, but cannot be found. Breitbart.com reports that “Homeland Security Department’s inspector general found that the effectiveness of teams assigned to find the fugitives was hampered by “insufficient detention capacity, limitations of an immigration database and inadequate working space.”‘

That sounds bad, but the 600,000 number is really just a drop in the bucket, because those are the illegals that we KNOW about. There are no reliable statistics on those we don’t know about.

Even though more than $204 million was allocated for 52 fugitive operations teams since 2003, a backlog of 623,292 cases existed as of August of 2006, the report said. The number of illegal immigrants in the United States has been estimated at between 11.5 million and 12 million. About 5.4 percent of them are believed to be “fugitive aliens,” those who have failed to leave the country after being ordered out.

Until the Sept. 11, 2001, terror attacks, attempts to catch such fugitives were mostly carried out by teams not exclusively devoted to the task. After the attacks, an Absconder Apprehension Initiative was created within the Justice Department to find, apprehend and deport such immigrants. When the Homeland Security Department was created in March 2003, it assumed responsibility.

We see how well that’s working for us.

Could it be that some of these fugitives, known and unknown, are Hezbollah suicide bombers that Iran’s Mahmoud Ahmadinejad suggests are here and awaiting orders to activate their cells? Or could it be that some of these are Jamaat ul-Fuqra at the Muslims of America compound known as “Aliville”, near Odum, Georgia. Perhaps some of these fugitives are at camp Islamville in Hancock, NY, or maybe or Madinah Village in Commerce, GA, just to name a few?

Constantinople Again (hat tip Gates of Vienna) tells of his visit to Aliville after the Gathering of Eagles. Go see the pictures, maps and read his experiences.

The truth is we have fugitives from all over, coming across the northern and southern borders, and entering the U.S. legally, overstaying visas, … and we don’t know how many there are, where they are, who they are, and thus we cannot round them up and ship them home. Money has been spent, agents have been assigned, and yet still we cannot get the job done.

Webb Aide Arrested For Taking Gun Into Senate Building

I am no Fan of Jim Webb, but this is just stupid...

From FNC:

U.S. Capitol Police arrested a top aide to Sen. Jim Webb on Monday after he tried to enter a Senate office building carrying a loaded pistol and two fully loaded magazines that belonged to the senator.

I hate when reporters do this, it was in some sort of bag or brief case. this is important because it is likely the aid did not know it was loaded. Heck we don't know if he knew there was a gun in the bag.

Frankly, everyone has the right to defend themselves and I would have no problem if they all carried firearms for protection. What part of SHALL NOT BE INFRINGED don't people understand?!?!? EVERY law that restricts honest citizen's right to bear arms is unconstitutional.

Phillip Thompson sent a bag through the X-ray machine at Russell Senate Office Building, where Webb's office is located. It detected the weapon and Capitol Police say they determined that Thompson didn't have a license to carry the gun in Washington, D.C. Thompson was arrested and charged with carrying a pistol without a license and possession of an unregistered firearm and unregistered ammunition.

A senior Democratic aide said Webb gave the bag that contained the gun to Thompson when the aide drove the senator to the airport. Thompson said he forgot it was in the bag when he took it into the office building. ...snip

Handguns are illegal in Washington, D.C., but nearby Virginia allows residents to carry concealed handguns. Capitol Police rules allow members and their employees to bring a weapon onto Capitol grounds if it is unloaded and securely wrapped. In this case, it was neither.

I am sick of this debate because it is dishonest. Anyone who has read the what the Founding Father's have written about the Second Amendment KNOWS it is an individual right for the purpose of defending the country, defending against a tyrannical government, for protection of self/private property and for providing of food. If you want read a good decision by a judge on this manner read U.S. v Emerson (I cannot believe how hard this was to find again). It is an excellent read breaking down the wording of the Second Amendment and citing the history and writings of the Founding Fathers.

I would like to see every honest citizen, without mental disorders, carrying a firearm. I know, an armed society, is a polite society.

Tests show Tony Snow's cancer has returned

Man this is tough news...

From the AP:

The colon cancer that Tony Snow successfully battled two years ago has returned and spread to the presidential spokesman's liver, the White House said Tuesday.

President Bush, making a brief statement to reporters in the Rose Garden, struck an optimistic tone that echoed how aides said Snow was feeling. The president spoke with Snow early Tuesday, and said he looks forward to the day that his spokesman "comes back to the White House and briefs the press corps on the decisions that I'm making."

"His attitude is, one, that he is not going to let this whip him, and he's upbeat. My attitude is that we need to pray for him, and for his family," Bush said. "And so my message to Tony is, 'Stay strong; a lot of people love you and care for you and will pray for you.' "

Doctors determined the growth was cancerous, and also found during the surgery that his cancer had metastasized, or spread, to his liver, White House spokeswoman Dana Perino said.

She said Snow is comfortable and feeling fine after his surgery and has pledged to aggressively fight the disease with an as-yet-to-be-determined chemotherapy treatment course. He will be in the hospital recovering from the surgery, a major procedure, for about a week.

"He said he's going to beat it again," Perino said in an emotional morning briefing with White House reporters. "When I talked to him, he was in very good spirits."...snip

How long they survive depends on how much of the liver is affected, and how many other parts of the body are, too.

In a small proportion of patients, the liver cancer is contained to a small enough area that it can be cut out. If surgery is not an option, doctors may try to limit the cancer's spread through the liver with radiofrequency ablation, using radiofrequency energy to blast the tumors.

Chemotherapy is a mainstay when the cancer has spread to more than one site, with the hope of controlling, even shrinking, tumors to prolong life.

Chemotherapy can turn cancer into something people can live with, said Dr. James Watson, the attending surgeon at Fox Chase Cancer Center in Philadelphia. "In this day and age, a diagnosis of a recurrence of colon cancer is far from a death sentence," he said.

To have to fight Cancer once is bad enough, but twice? He never appeared to have regained his vitality from his first fight with cancer. He never put the weight back on, so I am worried.

This has been some week, since Mrs John Edwards announced that her breast cancer, which she also thought she beat, also announced her cancer had moved to her bones. Her cancer is incurable, but treatable. Of course, the treatments are very expensive, but the Edwards can afford it.

Being American

Source: Houston Chronicle (H/T Immigration Watchdog)

Article submitted to Real Clear Politics...vote here.

KIRSTEN Stewart is not the kind of American that President Bush and the Democratic congressional leadership is likely to bring up as they renew their push for so-called comprehensive immigration reform.

Stewart is not the personification of any of the cliches that Bush and the Democratic leadership enjoy tossing about; she is not an impoverished illegal immigrant "living in the shadows." Nor is she a businesswoman who can't seem to find an American willing to work hard for a fair wage.

To the contrary, she is an example of the steep price America pays in integrity when its government refuses to enforce its laws, allowing many of its citizens to violate it with absolute impunity.

Stewart is a landscape professional trying to do the right thing by refusing to hire illegal immigrants — a decision that's effectively putting her out of business.
What's this? Is the woman some kind of right-wing, xenophobic, racist nut job? Hardly...
When she submits a bid to a prospective client, Stewart calculates her labor rate at $15-an-hour or more depending on the job; it's a decent wage with which she knows she can hire American citizens.

Paying a living wage to her workers is also at the core of the progressive political identity she forged while living in San Francisco.
Stewart says that she was "oblivious" to the illegal immigration problem when she first opened her landscaping business a few years back. So what opened her eyes?
"I realized that my foreman, who has been in the country a long time, doesn't have any desire to be a citizen. He has such a strong allegiance to Mexico," she says.

But it was Stewart's pregnant nanny from Brazil, also without papers, that pushed her to make a dramatic change.

"She told me that she was so happy that she was having her baby here because (her child) would get a real Social Security number. She told me how surprised she was at all the 'free' neonatal care she was getting and all the other 'free' health services," Stewart says. "That's when the light bulb went off."
So Stewart fired the nanny who was giddy about sponging off the American taxpayer via her anchor-baby-in-utero. Stewart stopped using her Viva Mexico foreman who was only too happy to use this country while sending his allegiance (and probably part of his paycheck) back across the border.

And what did Stewart receive for her efforts to respect the laws of this country, and to consider the well-being of her fellow citizens while considering her bottom line as a businesswoman?
Almost immediately, she started losing bids.

In a bitter irony, Stewart says many of her prospective clients are dyed-in-the-wool leftists who embrace living-wage ordinances and stronger worker's rights laws.

"They will invariably ask me why my labor costs are so high," Stewart says. "I tell them point-blank it is because I only use legal workers, either citizens or legal residents. I've had a few prospects just stare at me silently after I have told them that, like I have done something wrong. Others have just said 'OK, well thanks for the bid.' "
I wish Kirsten the best with her business, and hope she will manage to find some loyal clients who value her honesty and concern for this country, along with her landscape design skills.

Because, as much as we all throw labels around -- liberal, conservative, progressive, traditionalist, yada, yada, yada -- there is one thing that can (and must) unite us: being American.

That means a whole lot more than just being born or naturalized here. It's the difference between being an American and BEING American.

And that's all the difference in the world.

La Cucha Gotcha

Cross posted from InMuscatine

NEWARK, March 22 — Craig Carton and Ray Rossi think mental illness is hilarious and Asian-Americans are best mocked with sing-song Chinese accents. The men, hosts of an afternoon radio show called “The Jersey Guys” that is heard here on WKXW (101.5 FM), favor adjectives for politicians that have to be bleeped out.

Two weeks ago, Mr. Carton and Mr. Rossi started “Operation Rat a Rat/La Cucha Gotcha,” a listener-participation game that encourages people to turn in friends, neighbors and “anyone suspicious” to immigration authorities.

They introduced the segment with mariachi music and set the campaign to end on May 5 (Cinco de Mayo), a well-known Mexican holiday.

So, of course, they are to be ridiculed and mocked themselves for daring to seek to uphold the law of the land.

At a news conference Thursday, Hispanic elected officials and others condemned the campaign as “dehumanizing,” “poisonous” and “idiotic,” threatening boycotts of the show’s advertisers unless the Jersey Guys apologize.

“Scapegoating and stereotyping Latinos does nothing but give bigoted individuals a platform to make ethnic slurs and racist comments,” said Assemblyman Wilfredo Caraballo of Newark, calling the campaign a “publicity stunt” that could incite violence against Hispanics.

If by “violence” you mean “motivate the populace to enforce the immigration laws of the land” then you would be absolutely correct Mr. Caraballo.

But anyone expecting an apology was sorely disappointed when Mr. Carton and Mr. Rossi held an on-air news conference a few hours after Mr. Caraballo’s comments. Seeking to profit from the recently ignited firestorm, the Jersey Guys gathered a corps of journalists, most of them Hispanic, in their Trenton studios and gleefully refused to back down. They insisted that the campaign was not anti-Hispanic and that the phrase “La Cucha Gotcha” was inoffensive, likening the song “La Cucaracha” to a lullaby or a patriotic standard like “Yankee Doodle Dandy.”

After calling Assemblyman Caraballo a “pathetic liar,” Mr. Carton repeated his call to deport every illegal immigrant in the country. “If you’re here illegally, you are breaking the law — no better, no worse than the guy who robs the liquor store or the guy who waits to case your house out and robs you of your belongings,” he said. “You are a criminal.”

Hence the phrase ILLEGAL immigrant. And if you thought there was a public backlash about La Cucha Gotcha, you would be right. Of course, for the out of touch NY Times it was not the backlash for which they were hoping :

Judging from the cascade of congratulatory calls, the men have tapped into an angry vein in the state, where, according to 2005 census figures, 20 percent of all residents are foreign born, the third highest rate in the country. “This is an invasion,” said one caller, Carmen Perez, who said she had come to this country as a 3-year-old. “I would deport most of them.”

But that doesn’t stop people from pandering to the criminals anyway :

But Jack Plunkett, an analyst who follows broadcast radio, said the station might want to check out recent marketing data indicating that Hispanics are the fastest-growing group in the country, with spending power of $700 billion a year, a figure that is expected to triple by 2010. “These guys might not realize it,” he said, “but they could be shooting themselves in the foot.”

As you know, concepts such as “right” and “wrong” are quaint, bothersome ideas from a by-gone era. Don’t you know there is money to be made?! At least, that is what you can tell you conscience while you are pandering to the illegal class in America.

Brown Is Beautiful? What About Mexico?

Cross posted from Illegal Aliens Must Go

Brown may, in fact, be beautiful.

But in Mexico these days, pinko seems to be the dominant hue.

In an unbelievable reminder of why Mexico is, and will probably forever remain, a third-world cesspool, last fall President Vicente Fox was unable to deliver his state of the nation speech after leftist lawmakers seized the podium of Congress.

And the speaker of Mexico’s lower house asked for security personnel to ensure that the swearing in of President-elect Felipe Calderon could be accomplished after legislators scuffled over control of the congressional dais.

Mexico House Speaker Prepared to Ensure Calderon's Inauguration

When he finally delivered his speech on national television on September 2, Vicenete Fox said, in part: “Whoever attacks our laws and institutions also attacks our history and Mexico.

Can you imagine that? Laws and institutions actually have meaning in Mexico!

What a pity that Fox, and now Felipe Calderson, and other Mexican banditos of that ilk, do not have a similar regard for U.S. “laws and institutions.”

Instead, the Mexican government has dumped tens of millions of uneducated, poor illegal aliens on the backs of American taxpayers.

Regrettably, Mexico has been willfully aided and abetted in this immoral and illegal conduct by U.S. politicians, including our so-called president, many Republican members of Congress, and virtually all Democrats.

Some pundits suggest that Mexico’s political unrest has the potential of escalating into all out civil war and or violence.

Thus, U.S. leaders charged with defending the American people should act immediately to secure our borders.

It is also imperative that American leaders “connect the dots” between the anarchy now crippling Mexico and the millions of illegal aliens who marched in the streets of America last April and May to protest the rule of law in this sovereign nation.

Before accepting “Brown is beautiful” as a universal truth, U.S. leaders must recognize that events in Mexico and on the streets of America suggest quite the opposite.

John Lillpop is a recovering liberal.

Families First on Immigration

Cross posted from Right Truth

In case you haven’t heard, Families First on Immigration is about securing the U.S. borders and eliminating citizenship birthright. Under the 14th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, anyone born in the United States is a citizen — a right Families First is waging an extremely uphill battle to overturn. The article discussed the different viewpoints of religious people when it comes to illegal immigration.

We have religious groups who give shelter and aide to the illegals and then we have groups like Families First on Immigration who believe our borders should be secure and anchor babies should not be a legal practice in the United States. It’s obvious that there are consequences for families that enter the United States illegally. The Washington Times says, ‘It’s hard to find a family in Mexico that doesn’t have relatives in the United States.’

Even Mexican President Felipe Calderon says he has distant cousins, uncles and in-laws scattered in Chicago, Los Angeles and other U.S. cities, many of them living “a salto de mata,” a Mexican phrase that translates roughly as “on the run.”

There doesn’t seem to be any shame in Calderon’s comments, that even his own family can’t make a living in Mexico. Families are split, with husbands and sons coming to the U.S., leaving wives, mothers and children in Mexico. But just because a woman is able to get across the border and deliver a newborn, should that automatically make the child a United States citizen and allow the mother, baby and family to stay here? I don’t think so.

Appletree Blog has this story:

A new policy by the Bush administration to automatically extend Medicaid benefits to uninsured newborns is drawing fire from some anti-immigration activists, because some of the infants covered are the children of illegal immigrants:

TUCSON, Ariz. — Guidelines issued by U.S. attorneys in Texas showed that most illegal immigrants crossing into the state had to be arrested at least six times before federal authorities would prosecute them, according to an internal Justice Department memo.

The disclosure provides a rare view of how federal authorities attempt to curb illegal immigration. The memo was released this week in response to a congressional investigation of the dismissals of eight U.S. attorneys. The memo says one Texas district prosecutes migrants if the Border Patrol catches them at least six to eight times. The other district prosecutes after someone is caught at least seven times.

umpire1.jpgumpire1.jpgumpire1.jpgumpire1.jpgumpire1.jpgumpire1.jpgumpire1.jpg

In Arizona it may take 10 arrests before a prosecution results.

umpire1.jpgumpire1.jpgumpire1.jpgumpire1.jpgumpire1.jpg
Americans have always felt it’s three strikes and you’re out…..but the “DOUBLE SECRET” Guidelines issued to it’s prosecutors seemed to paint a different story…….
“Just because someone breaks the law to come into our country illegally….doesn’t mean they will will steal your identity to get a job or kill your kids while driving drunk with a fake drivers license …..
These are bogus arguments…..and are racist. Hell, there are plenty of States who will give illegal immigrants who can’t read street signs or speak english a REAL drivers license.” a department spokesman might have said.

In late 2005, the government created a 200-mile zone near Del Rio, Texas, in which (the Government vowed) every adult arrested for illegal immigration would be prosecuted and jailed before being deported.SOURCE

But the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, the Bush Administration, and the Mexican Government wanted to recognize Mexican guest workers who were doing the jobs Americans wont do….Jobs like entering our country illegally to bring our kids drugs and pick our tomatoes…..

Justice Department spokesman Brian Roehrkasse said Thursday that immigration prosecutions are a high priority and that the government sent 30 additional attorneys to the border region in the second half of 2006. “Increasing the number of prosecutors will permit districts to adjust their guidelines and take in more cases,” he said.

Then Possibly adding:
” We have to prioritize….. It’s not that we want to turn drug smugglers and illegal aliens loose , but the extra burden of prosecuting all our law enforcement officers who try to arrest them has put a strain on us.
If we concentrated on Illegal aliens and their employers, our resources would be stretched to thin to put away the real criminals…… Border Patrol Agents and deputy sheriffs.”

Guidelines vary by U.S. attorney office across the border, but Border Patrol Agents with no criminal records who attempt to enforce our laws will almost certainly be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law, while our potential guest workers have to be turned back to Mexico ‘’numerous times’’ before getting prosecuted, according to another possible memo.

Justice Department guidelines give them the right to not be prosecuted the first time they break the law…or the second time …
or the third,
or the fourth,
or the fifth time,
or the sixth time,
or the seventh time,
or the eighth…….
but by the ninth or tenth time they break the law we come down on them……

When asked if Ordinary Americans could count on the same number of get out of jail free cards, A justice department Official Laughed defended the process:
Let me remind you…… We are a nation of laws…..

that apply to Legal Americans only…..

“Americans understand they go to jail when they break the law….heh heh….. just try not filing your taxes…….suckers…….

Folding at Home!

Do you want to make a difference?

From Staford University:

What is protein folding and how is folding linked to disease? Proteins are biology's workhorses -- its "nanomachines." Before proteins can carry out these important functions, they assemble themselves, or "fold." The process of protein folding, while critical and fundamental to virtually all of biology, in many ways remains a mystery.

Moreover, when proteins do not fold correctly (i.e. "misfold"), there can be serious consequences, including many well known diseases, such as Alzheimer's, Mad Cow (BSE), CJD, ALS, Huntington's, Parkinson's disease, and many Cancers and cancer-related syndromes.

You can help by simply running a piece of software. Folding@Home is a distributed computing project -- people from through out the world download and run software to band together to make one of the largest supercomputers in the world. Every computer makes the project closer to our goals.

Folding@Home uses novel computational methods coupled to distributed computing, to simulate problems thousands to millions of times more challenging than previously achieved.

What have we done so far? We have had several successes. You can read about them on our Science page, Results section, or go directly to our press and papers page.

Want to learn more? Click on the links on the left for downloads or more information. You can also download our Executive Summary, which is a PDF suitable for distribution. Also, you can learn more by watching recent seminars (Stanford BMI ; Xerox PARC). One can also help by donating funds to the project, via Stanford University.
Even more impressive is the inclusion of the new PS3 gaming console!

Now in 2006, we are looking forward to another major advance in capabilities. This advance utilizes the new Cell processor in Sony’s PLAYSTATION 3 (PS3) to achieve performance previously only possible on supercomputers. With this new technology (as well as new advances with GPUs), we will likely be able to attain performance on the 25 gigaflop scale per computer. With about 40,000 such machines, we would be able to achieve performance on the petaflop scale. With software from Sony, the PlayStation 3 will now be able to contribute to the Folding@Home project, pushing Folding@Home a major step forward.

Our goal is to apply this new technology to push Folding@Home into a new level of capabilities, applying our simulations to further study of protein folding and related diseases, including Alzheimer’s Disease, Huntington's Disease, and certain forms of cancer. With these computational advances, coupled with new simulation methodologies to harness the new techniques, we will be able to address questions previously considered impossible to tackle computationally, and make even greater impacts on our knowledge of folding and folding related diseases.

ADVANCED FEATURES FOR THE PS3

The PS3 client will also support some advanced visualization features. While the Cell microprocessor does most of the calculation processing of the simulation, the graphic chip of the PLAYSTATION 3 system (the RSX) displays the actual folding process in real-time using new technologies such as HDR and ISO surface rendering. It is possible to navigate the 3D space of the molecule using the interactive controller of the PS3, allowing us to look at the protein from different angles in real-time. For a preview of a prototype of the GUI for the PS3 client, check one of these videos ( 355K avi, 866K avi , 6MB avi , 6MB avi-- more videos and formats to come).
Pretty darn cool, I have downloaded my software for my PC, how about you? Got a kid with a ps3? It does not interfere with playing games, so you can help when it is not in use!

Our Government Not Listening to the People

This is how I feel about the government not securing our borders and stopping illegal immigration.

In every stage of these Oppressions We have petitioned for redress in thee most humble terms. Our repeated Petition have been answered only by repeated injury...

This was taken from the Declaration of Independence. They insist on providing a path to citizenship for those people in this country ILLEGALLY and have done NOTHING to secure our borders. Are you as tired of it as I am?

I wish to start sending The Following to our elected cockroaches, both federal and statewide. Also, include one in EVERY donation requests from the parties. This is handy as they provide a self addressed pre-paid envelope.

Dear America: What Will You Do When G.W. Bush Surrenders to Mexico?

Cross posted from Liberalism is Insanity

John W. Lillpop

Picture the ugly scene, if you have the heart and or stomach:

A breaking news bulletin interrupts regular broadcasting during prime time. Television cameras zoom in on the White House where a historic piece of legislation is being about to become law by virtue of approval by President G.W. Bush.

At the center of the stage sits President Bush, smiling broadly at the Democrats and RINOs who made amnesty for illegal aliens possible. That would include Democrat senators Reid and Kennedy, and Republicans Frist and McCain. The U.S. House would be represented by Speaker Nancy Pelosi, the Sanchez sisters, and other advocates for illegal aliens.

With a stroke of his presidential pen, G. W. Bush will grant legal status to the 12-20 million illegal alien criminals who have invaded America since 1986, when wholesale amnesty was last granted. Once Bush is finished, former illegal aliens will comprise anywhere from 3-8% of the total United States population.

Nearly all of the “hardworking, goodhearted” illegal aliens that Bush will legalize will vote Democrat for the remainder of their lives, thereby effectively ending the two party system in America.

Mexicans still living in Mexico, but disenchanted with life there, will see the latest amnesty as a sure sign that invading America can be accomplished with impunity. It will be abundantly clear that America’s “conservative” president is adamant in his refusal to enforce U.S. borders and immigration laws.

Thus, scores of millions of additional illegal aliens will head north with little or no concern for U.S. borders and immigration laws.

G.W. Bush will go down in history as the president who actively campaigned for the invasion of America by foreigners from a third-world nation. He will be remembered as the president who discarded American sovereignty, rule of law, language, and culture in exchange for cheap lettuce and fruit.

He will also be remembered as the president who sent American men and women 8,000 miles from home to fight for Iraq and Afghanistan, but who abandoned the American people at our southern border.

Finally, G.W. Bush will be remembered as the president who abandoned the Republican party and consigned it to permanent minority status.

Another Crack at Comprehensive Immigration Reform

Cross posted from Morning Coffee

It looks as though congress will again attempt legislation on Comprehensive Immigration Reform, this time through the STRIVE Act of 2007.

From the Washington Post

A bipartisan proposal for comprehensive immigration reform that would allow millions of illegal immigrants to participate in a guest-worker program and possibly gain citizenship was introduced in the House yesterday, the first to be submitted since Democrats took control of Congress this year.

The Strive Act of 2007 is not yet available in the Library of Congress and the only information I could find on it were from the proponents of the bill. Here is some of what they are saying;

From Representative Jeff Flake

The bill, the STRIVE Act of 2007 (Security Through Regularized Immigration and a Vibrant Economy), would overhaul the current immigration system in a way that better protects and enforces our borders, respects the hard work and contributions of immigrants to our country and reflects the realities of our workforce and the needs of our communities.

If enacted, the Gutierrez-Flake bill would ensure that we have an immigration system in place that meets the security and economic needs of our nation by creating laws that are tough, enforceable and realistic.

When the text of the bill is made available I will certainly take a more in depth look at it, but since the phrase “Comprehensive Immigration Reform” has become synonymous with a shamnesty program my expectations are rather low.

House Passes War Appropriations Bill with Date Certain

From FNC:

Democrats won passage by a 218-212 vote on the $124 billion war spending bill, which will fund the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. Bush has promised to veto the measure.
...snip

Meanwhile, the Senate Appropriations Committee on Thursday approved a $121 billion version of Bush's emergency war spending request, but bucked the White House by putting in language that sets a date-specific timeframe for withdrawing troops from Iraq.

The Senate bill sets a March 31, 2008, goal for withdrawing all combat troops out of Iraq. The legislation, which also gobs on billions in special projects at home, now heads to the Senate floor for a vote by the full chamber.
...snip

President Bush vowed to veto a measure pushed through the House by Democrats on Friday that would order the commander-in-chief to withdraw U.S. combat troops from Iraq by September 2008.

"I will veto it if it comes to my desk," Bush said from the White House Diplomatic Reception Room joined by family members of veterans and troops in combat.

Bush called the measure by Democrats "an act of political theater voted to subsitute their judgement for that of our military commanders on the ground in Iraq."
...snip

Defense Secretary Robert Gates warned that if Congress fails to pass a measure funding the war efforts by April 15, it will slow down training of troops scheduled for future deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan. Gates says it would also delay repair of equipment.

It is not likely to pass the Senate, but if it does the President will veto it. However, that means no money for the troops.

Did I mention how Nancy Pelosi got the votes?

Democrats Load Up emergency Iraq Funding Bill With Pork

For Rep. Sam Farr (D-Calif.), there is $25 million for spinach growers hurt by last year's E. coli scare. For three conservative Democrats in Georgia, there is $75 million for peanut storage. For lawmakers from the bone-dry West, there is $500 million for wildfire suppression. An additional $120 million is earmarked for shrimp and Atlantic menhaden fishermen.

And that was taken from WaPo!!

FDA Finalizes Report on 2006 Spinach Outbreak

You are not hearing about this in the MSM, but here is the final report from the FDA about the e.coli contamination of leafy greens...

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and California's Department of Health Services (CDHS) today released a joint report on an extensive investigation into the causes of an E.coli O157:H7 outbreak last fall that was associated with contaminated Dole brand Baby Spinach and resulted in 205 confirmed illnesses and three deaths. The inquiry was conducted by the California Food Emergency Response Team (CalFERT), a team of experts from FDA's district office in San Francisco and CDHS. They were assisted by experts from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service of the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

The investigators successfully identified the environmental risk factors and the areas that were most likely involved in the outbreak, but they were unable to definitely determine how the contamination originated.

We don't know, does not satisfy me and their list is politically correct.

The next focus of the inquiry was the source of the spinach in 13 bags containing E.coli O157:H7 isolates that had been collected nationwide from sick customers. Using the product codes on the bags, and employing DNA fingerprinting on the bacteria from the bags, the investigators were able to match environmental samples of E.coli O157:H7 from one field to the strain that had caused the outbreak. Potential environmental risk factors for E.coli O157:H7 contamination at or near the field included the presence of wild pigs, the proximity of irrigation wells used to grow produce for ready-to-eat packaging, and surface waterways exposed to feces from cattle and wildlife.

Because the contamination occurred before the start of the investigation, and because of the many ways that E.coli O157:H7 can be transferred -- including animals, humans, and water -- the precise means by which the bacteria spread to the spinach remain unknown.

So, they do not know, but illegal aliens working in those fields could not be the source? I am not saying it is illegal aliens, but it certainly could be. They come from a culture of poor personal hygiene and in Mexico, it has been reported that they defecate in the irrigation ditches. But we won't even consider that possibility, so we can do nothing about educating the farmers on how to teach their field hands proper hygiene and to use the porta potties that they must provide for x amount of workers.

All I know is that in this day and age our food supply has become unsafe. I want to know what has changed?

The report on the probe of the Dole spinach contamination, titled: Investigation of an Escherichia coli O157:H7 Outbreak Associated with Dole Pre-Packaged Spinach, is posted at http://www.DHS.ca.gov.

Rat Poison Found in Killer Pet Food That Sparked Nationwide Recall

I previously reported about a pet food recall, here is an update

From FNC:

Tests turned up rat poison in the pet food suspected of causing kidney failure in dogs and cats across the country and killing at least 16, state officials and scientists announced Friday.

The toxin was identified as aminopterin, which is used to kill rats in some countries, state Agriculture Commissioner Patrick Hooker said. Aminopterin is not registered for killing rodents in the United States, though it is used as a cancer drug, according to the Environmental Protection Agency.

State officials did not say how they believe Aminopterin got into the now-recalled pet food, though they said no criminal investigations had been launched.

The Food and Drug Administration has said the investigation was focusing on wheat gluten in the pet food. Wheat gluten itself would not cause kidney failure, but the common ingredient could have been contaminated, the FDA said.

The pet deaths led to a recall of 60 million cans and pouches of pet food produced by Menu Foods and sold throughout North America under 95 brand names. There have been several reports of kidney failure in pets that ate the recalled brands, and the company has confirmed the deaths of 15 cats and one dog.
I just heard on FNC that the source of the rat poison is wheat grown in CHINA. It is grown specifically fgor pet food and was sprayed with the poison. They did not say why it was sprayed.

FDA is conducting an investigation and working with Menu Foods, Inc. to ensure the effectiveness of the recall. Consumers with questions may contact the company at 1-866-895-2708. Consumers who wish to report adverse actions or other problems can go to http://www.fda.gov/opacom/backgrounders/complain.html to contact the FDA complaint coordinator in their state.

Iran seizes 15 British sailors, marines

From the AP:

Iranian naval vessels on Friday seized 15 British sailors and marines who had boarded a merchant ship in Iraqi waters of the Persian Gulf, British and U.S. officials said. Britain immediately protested the detentions, which come at a time of high tension between the West and Iran.

...snip

Britain's Defense Ministry said the British Navy personnel were "engaged in routine boarding operations of merchant shipping in Iraqi territorial waters," and had completed a ship inspection when they were accosted by the Iranian vessels. The British sailors were assigned to a task force which protects Iraqi oil terminals and maintains security in Iraqi waters under authority of the
U.N. Security Council.

...snip

In London, the British government summoned the Iranian ambassador to the Foreign Office: "He was left in no doubt that we want them back," Britain's Foreign Secretary Margaret Beckett said after the meeting.

...snip

No one could be immediately reached for comment at either government offices in Iran or at the Iranian Embassy in Baghdad. An Iranian official at the U.N. mission in New York said he was not aware of the report and could not immediately comment.

Iran is in the middle of its New Year holiday when almost all government offices close.

Well, I think you better WAKE SOMEONE UP or break up there party over this one; don't you think?

Personally, I would arrest Abbadabbadoodoo who is in NY right now.

U.S. officials had expressed concern that with so much military hardware concentrated in the Persian Gulf, just such a small incident could spiral out of control and trigger a major armed confrontation.

White House press secretary Tony Snow said the Bush administration was monitoring the situation.

"The British government is demanding the immediate safe return of the people and equipment and we are keeping watch on the situation," Snow said.

...snip

Earlier this week, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei said if Western countries "want to treat us with threats and enforcement of coercion and violence, undoubtedly they must know that the Iranian nation and authorities will use all their capacities to strike enemies that attack."

This clown actually runs the country. In contrast our President said...

In February, President Bush said: "The Iranian people are good, honest, decent people and they've got a government that is belligerent, loud, noisy, threatening — a government which is in defiance of the rest of the world and says, 'We want a nuclear weapon.'"

In other words their government behaves like petulent children because it is immature.

According to a statement from the U.S. Navy's Fifth Fleet, which is based in Bahrain and operates jointly with the British forces off the coast of Iraq, the British sailors had just finished inspecting the merchant ship about 10:30 a.m. "when they and their two boats were surrounded and escorted by Iranian vessels into Iranian territorial waters."

Cmdr. Kevin Aandahl of the Fifth Fleet said the British crew members were intercepted by several larger patrol boats operated by Iranian sailors belonging to the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps Navy, a radical force that operates separately from the country's regular navy.

The Iranian boats normally carry bow-mounted machine guns, while the British boarding party carried only sidearms, Aandahl said. No shots were fired and there appeared to be no physical harm done to any personnel involved or their vessels, Aandahl said.

The seizure of the British vessels, a pair of rigid inflatable boats known as RIBs, took place in long-disputed waters just outside of the mouth of the Shatt al-Arab waterway that divides Iraq from Iran, Aandahl said. A 1975 treaty gave the waters to Iraq and U.S. and British ships commonly operate there, but Aandahl said Iran disputes Iraq's jurisdiction over the waters.

Iran really thinks it can play with the big boys, doesn't it?

This is the action of a rogue nation, not one that wishes to be part of the civilized world. there are some of you out there that want to trust them with nuclear technology? They cannot even behave with conventional weapons! Not only was this arrogant, it was incredibly STUPID! With the Security council discussing sanction on Iran and their President here to speak to the U.N. you do something like this? We shouldn't be surprised, their President is a whack job hostage taker from way back.

I tell you what, I want to know what was on that Merchant Ship. I also think their President should be arrested until their people and property are returned. Why, because in my opinion, this was an act of war.

Gonzales Team dissappointed in 1 year prison sentence for Texas Deputy…Will Sutton be the next to be Benched?

21 03 2007

Cross posted from STIKNSTEIN…has no mercy

Does Sutton have what it takes to advance to the next round?
A Satire by stikNstein……or maybe not…..

By Jerome R. Corsi
© 2007 WorldNetDaily.com

The federal government has recommended a seven-year prison term for Gilmer Hernandez, a Texas deputy sheriff who drew grass-roots support after he was convicted for violating the civil rights of a fleeing illegal alien,
Hernandez, 25, was prosecuted by U.S. Attorney Johnny Sutton, whose office last year also won convictions and 11- and 12-year prison sentences for U.S. Border Patrol Agents Ignacio Ramos and Jose Alonso Compean, who shot a drug-smuggling suspect in the buttocks as he fled back into Mexico.

A Justice Department spokesman might have said:
“Johnny has been our go to guy all year. We’ve always been able to count on him to do whatever it takes to win a conviction for us…When the game was on the line, he had what it takes to run up the score and send the right message to those law enforcement types we’re up against.
hansbrough-dockery.jpg

But adding:
” We are deeply disappointed in Sutton’s poor performance in not getting the judge to impose the 7 year penalty the Mexican Consulate needed in this last game. It appears that Mr. Sutton has allowed American Justice to get in the way of the will of the Mexican Government in this very important game. We’ve been lucky so far…..the judges have been with us and we’ve been getting the calls. But the numbers seem to slipping.

Assistant Coach U.S. Attorney Bill Baumann, who headed the prosecution team, presented the court with photos of the injured woman and urged U.S. District Judge Robert T. Dawson to impose a sentence (of 7 years) that fit Hernandez’s crime. SOURCE

Possibly adding:
“We did manage to squeek out a one year sentence for Deputy Hernandez, but I understand those of our supporters who wonder if we really have what it takes to win and advance to the next round of prosecutions. Sutton may be 4 and 0, but he needs to keep the pressure on. We need to be sending out a message of real intimidation to the American Law Enforcement team. One that our fans and supporters back home in Mexico and the Justice Department can be proud of. Now is not the time to be soft.”

Defense Coaches and their supporters had a different perspective:

Defense attorney Parks told the judge that sheriff’s office deputies, especially ones working in poor, rural areas like Edwards County, are under constant duress from U.S. Homeland Security directives that make them the front line of defense in protecting the U.S. from terrorists.
“Gilmer Hernandez never believed he would be in a courtroom as a criminal defendant,” Parks said. “When I look at Gilmer, I see a guy who dreamed of being in a courtroom on the witness stand, a man who wanted to beat the bad guys.”

Gonzales was thought to have noted:
We expect Sutton and his team to handle the pressure…….
“We are in the middle of MARCH MADNESS……Our prosecutors should be peaking….. Now is not the time for our Key Government players to be leaving anything on the floor. We can’t view this weak sentence as anything but poor in the court performance.”
If Sutton is not willing to put out the effort to get the convictions we need , I’ll bench him and find somebody who is willing to play……..
This is not the NIT you know!

Michael Medved panders to illegals in Wedneday USA Today

21 03 2007

Cross Posted from No Amnesty Got it!

Who should stay and who should go?

USA Today, Wednesday March 21, 2007

The Forum

Michael Medved

The best immigration reform would be one that divides and conquers the pool of illegals. The line would be drawn at those who play by the rules, assimilate, and pay a fine and back taxes. To the others: LEAVE!

The title and header of the article is enough to key you into which camp Mr Medved is writing for. If you are not convinced, a quick read will convince you. He even refers to them as undocumented immigrants so the truth about Medved is known… just another amnesty panderer. Illegal means two things to these people: doodly and squat.

Mike thinks that we can absorb the harmless lovable border jumpers while gently encouraging the criminal element to please-with-sugar-on-top depart our beloved homeland. Apparently Michael Medved owns a pair of those rose colored glasses or has rose colored contact lenses.

He says that ultimately “…the most stringent effort to expel illegals [as close as he gets to labeling them illegal aliens] will leave millions remaining in the USA…” and uses this as a reason to throw up our hands and surrender to them.Naturally, there are illegal aliens involved in all sorts of criminal activities, robberies, rapes, murders, car theft, drugs, gangs, and the enablers of all this are Michael Medved, George Bush, McCain, Kennedy, Brownback, Hagel, Obama, Clinton, and ilk that refuse to do anything because we will not bestow citizenship on the border jumpers.

MM laments that assimilation is next to impossible because they can not achieve legal residency. Earth to Mike Medved: They could if they immigrated the LEGAL way. This country encourages and welcomes legal immigrants!

Mass deportation is TOTALLY PRACTICAL. Start a few thousand at a time and work from there. If we do a thousand a week in different areas, after a year we will have cleared approximately 50,000 plus the millions that will self deport. The only inertia we face is from amnesty panderers like you, Mike. I wont ask what part of illegal you do not understand, because you do understand but still refuse to uphold the law. As an adjunct to the deportations, we need to HEAVILY FINE employers of illegals. Make the fine increase exponentially with the number of illegal aliens he employs and it could actually become economically unfeasible for the business to keep illegals on the payroll.

Calling an ILLEGAL ALIEN an undocumented immigrant is like calling a BURGLAR an uninvited house guest!

[ps: You all might want to visit Medved’s web site and let him know what you think about amnesty for illegals!]

Congressman Compares Iraq and Detroit

From The Las Vegas Sun:

During an interview Monday with WILS-AM, Rep. Tim Walberg said the returning troops he has talked with "indicate to me that 80 to 85 percent, in a conservative fashion, of the country is reasonably under control, at least as well as Detroit or Chicago or any of our other big cities. That's an encouraging sign."

Remarked program host Jack Ebling: "I've never heard Iraq compared to Detroit before."

Obviosly, he never listened to my radio show, or read my blog. hehe

Walberg responded: "Well, in fact, in many places it's as safe and cared for as Detroit or Harvey, Ill., or some other places that have trouble with armed violence that takes place on occasion."

Detroit and Chicago had higher rates of murder and some other crimes than the United States as a whole in 2005, according to FBI statistics. Harvey is an economically depressed Chicago suburb with about 30,000 residents.

"It's absurd to compare Detroit and Iraq in any way," said James Canning, spokesman for Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick, on Wednesday. "Unfortunately, for years people have beat up on the city of Detroit. Detroit is the word for negative. We are working very hard to transform that image of our city."

Why? our inner cities are ridden with crime. Why don't you ask WHY is it this way, instead of being insulted?

A spokeswoman for Harvey Mayor Eric Kellogg said he had no immediate response.

Walberg was born and grew up in Chicago. He is in his first term in the U.S. House.

"These soldiers have expressed optimism to the congressman about the safety and security of the majority of Iraq," said Walberg spokesman Matt Lahr. "There are still major challenges in Iraq, especially in the Anbar province and Sadr City."

State Democratic Party chairman Mark Brewer demanded Wednesday that Walberg apologize to his constituents and Detroit residents.

"To compare our largest city to Iraq, a country currently in the middle of a bloody civil war where thousands of our troops and tens of thousands of civilians have been killed, many by beheading and torture, is unconscionable," Brewer said in a statement.

Yeah, seven years in the NY Ghettos is all I need to understand the problem. The culture of entitlement, which causes a sub culture; period.

Soldier performs life-saving actions despite life-threatening wounds

From CentCom:

Photo: Army Cpl. Clinton A. WarrickSept. 18, 2006, was a typical morning for platoon medic Cpl. Warrick: The sun was bright, and U.S. military police and Iraqi policemen were conducting their usual transitional training at the Al Huria police station in Iraq. Suddenly, without warning, small-arms fire erupted from all directions. The base was under siege. Coalition forces concentrated fire on the attackers, but then a speeding pick-up truck crashed through the entrance and careened toward the center of the station. The truck detonated its 200-pound aircraft bomb, throwing Cpl. Warrick several meters and knocking him unconscious. Rubble from the explosion buried him. Warrick’s platoon leader saw what happened and quickly pulled him from the debris.

Warrick’s legs were on fire – so the platoon leader used a fire extinguisher to put out the flames. When Warrick regained consciousness, he realized that he was badly burned – but he also realized that if he sat in one place, he would go into shock. He requested morphine, but his medic bag was buried in the burning building. As a medic, he knew that without pain medication, his only choice to avoid slipping into shock was to stay active. So he climbed through a hole in the building to see how he could assist. With a heavy stream of fire still reigning down on the station, and suffering from third-degree burns over 45 percent of his body as well as shrapnel wounds and smoke-inhalation injuries, Warrick went about the work of a medic: He assessed injured soldiers and Iraqi policemen – and told the nearby support battalion what injuries they could expect. That vital information helped save the lives of seven Iraqi policemen.

Warrick realized he couldn’t fight off the shock much longer, so he moved to the north side of the station where he could be evacuated to the medical station himself. For his life-saving actions while suffering from life-threatening wounds, Warrick was awarded the Silver Star on Dec. 11, 2006.

Wal-Mart's hourly employees receive bonuses

Evil Walmart...

From the Houston Chronicle:

Wal-Mart Stores Inc. has awarded bonuses totaling more than a half-billion dollars to more than half the giant retailer's hourly employees in the U.S., the company said today.

Wal-Mart, which refers to its employees as "associates," said in a news release announcing the bonuses that it was designating today as Associate Celebration Day. It also announced new programs intended to recognize service and performance.

The company said it has awarded more than $529.8 million in bonuses to a total of 813,759 Wal-Mart store and Sam's Club hourly workers in the U.S.

The company employs about 1.3 million people in the U.S.

The release did not specify how the bonuses were allocated.

The company has previously provided extra money to workers once a year through a program that provided what it calls "My$hare" bonuses, allocated on the basis of store performance. Those bonuses will now be distributed quarterly, the release said, "to reward performance on a more frequent basis."

Among the new programs outlined in the announcement are what the company called "Servant Leadership" bonuses, recognizing employees of 20 years or more with an extra week of pay. More than 13,400 employees have been with the company 20 years or longer, the company said.

Also announced as a new program was the "Customer Champion" award, providing cash bonuses to employees "who go above and beyond in providing excellent customer service." That program will be launched during the summer, the company said.

Yeah, Johnny "beef Cake" Edwards who would want to work at Walmart?

I hate that they do business with China, but that is the government's fault, not Walmart's. Our government gave china favored nation status, not Walmart. Walmart is one of those jobs, in my neck of the woods, uneducated people compete for. They pay well, they have good working conditions, they provide prescription plans and health plans if you are willing to contribute and BONUSES!

Walmart also saves the average American family about 2000.00/yr. Walmart is a great example of how capitalism works.

Mystery creator of anti-Clinton ad ID'd

I really enjoyed this ad on youtube...

From the LA Daily:

The Internet video sensation that targeted Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton now has rival Sen. Barack Obama on the spot.

Heralded by many as the embodiment of Web-driven citizen activism, the mysterious YouTube ad now stands revealed as the work of a Democratic operative employed by a consulting firm with Obama links.

"It's true ... yeah, it's me," said Philip de Vellis, a 33-year-old strategist with Blue State Digital, a Washington company that advises Democratic candidates and liberal groups.

Blue State designed Obama's Web site, and one of the firm's founding members, Joe Rospars, took a leave from the company to work as Obama's director of new media.

Obama, Blue State and de Vellis all say de Vellis acted on his own. De Vellis left the company on Wednesday. He said he resigned; Thomas Gensemer, the firm's managing director, said he was fired.

The entire episode hangs a cloud over the Obama camp.

Since he arrived on the national political scene, Obama has won convert after convert with a vow to rise above the bare-knuckle fray of politics.

However tenuous, any link to the ad, with its Orwellian image of Clinton as Big Brother, raises questions the Obama camp would rather not face.

In a statement, the Obama campaign said it "had no knowledge and had nothing to do with the creation of the ad."

enjoy!

240-Year Sentence for NYC Hate Crime

I am still against "Hate Crime" laws...

From The Las Vegas Sun:

A judge sentenced a man to 240 years in prison Wednesday for taking hostages in a bar and telling patrons that "white people are going to burn tonight."

State Supreme Court Justice Maxwell Wiley told Steven Johnson, 39, who is black, that he had forfeited his "right to live in society."

Johnson, 39, was convicted March 1 of attempted murder, assault and other charges, including some designated as hate crimes.

Johnson invaded Bar Veloce, in Manhattan's East Village neighborhood, while nine men and six women were inside it June 16, 2002. He was carrying three pistols, a samurai sword and a container of kerosene.

He told police he had left the Brooklyn housing project where he lived and taken the subway to go look for "happy" white people to avenge the mistreatment of blacks.

He shot and wounded three people, including a police officer, and sprayed kerosene on several customers and threatened to set them on fire. Two women caught Johnson off guard and tackled him, and a policeman shot him.

About a dozen victims and their supporters were in the courtroom for the sentencing.
He should be tried like anyone else who would commit such a crime, his racial hate should not be THE issue in the case. His racial hate was his motivation, not the crime. The crime was his ACTIONS regardless of his racial hate.

President's Radio Address March 17, 2007

From The White House:

Fact sheet In Focus: Defense

THE PRESIDENT: Good morning. In times of war, Congress has no greater obligation than funding our war fighters. And next week, the House will begin debate on an emergency war spending bill.

The purpose of this legislation should be to give our troops on the front lines the resources, funds, and equipment they need to fight our enemies. Unfortunately, some in Congress are using this bill as an opportunity to micromanage our military commanders, force a precipitous withdrawal from Iraq, and spend billions on domestic projects that have nothing to do with the war on terror.

Our troops urgently need Congress to approve emergency war funds. Over the past several weeks, our Nation has begun pursuing a new strategy in Iraq. Under the leadership of General David Petraeus, our troops have launched a difficult and dangerous mission to help Iraqis secure their capital. This plan is still in its early stages, yet we're already seeing signs of progress. Iraqi and American troops have rounded up more than 700 people affiliated with Shia extremists. They've also launched aggressive operations against Sunni extremists. And they've uncovered large caches of weapons that could have been used to kill our troops. These are hopeful signs. As these operations unfold, they will help the Iraqi government stabilize the country, rebuild the economy, and advance the work of political reconciliation. Yet the bill Congress is considering would undermine General Petraeus and the troops under his command just as these critical security operations are getting under way.

First, the bill would impose arbitrary and restrictive conditions on the use of war funds and require the withdrawal of forces by the end of this year if these conditions are not met. These restrictions would handcuff our generals in the field by denying them the flexibility they need to adjust their operations to the changing situation on the ground. And these restrictions would substitute the mandates of Congress for the considered judgment of our military commanders.

Even if every condition required by this bill was met, all American forces -- except for very limited purposes -- would still be required to withdraw next year, regardless of the situation in Iraq. The consequences of imposing such an artificial timetable would be disastrous.

Here is what Secretary of Defense Robert Gates recently told Congress: Setting a fixed date to withdraw would "essentially tell [the enemy] how long they would have to wait until we're gone." If American forces were to step back from Baghdad before it is more secure, the scale and scope of attacks would increase and intensify. A contagion of violence could spill out across the entire country, and in time, this violence would engulf the region. The enemy would emerge from the chaos emboldened with new safe havens, new recruits, new resources, and an even greater determination to harm America. Such an outcome would be a nightmare for our country.

Second, the bill would cut funding for the Iraqi security forces if Iraqi leaders did not meet rigid conditions set by Congress. This makes no sense. Members of Congress have often said that the Iraqis must step forward and take more responsibility for their own security -- and I agree. Yet Members of Congress can't have it both ways: They can't say that the Iraqis must do more and then take away the funds that will help them do so. Iraq is a young democracy that is fighting for its survival in a region that is vital to American security. To cut off support for their security forces at this critical moment would put our own security at risk.

Third, the bill would add billions of dollars in domestic spending that is completely unrelated to the war. For example, the House bill would provide $74 million for peanut storage, $48 million for the Farm Service Agency, and $35 million for NASA. These programs do not belong in an emergency war spending bill. Congress must not allow debate on domestic spending to delay funds for our troops on the front lines. And Members should not use funding our troops as leverage to pass special interest spending for their districts.

We are a Nation at war, and the heaviest responsibilities fall to our troops in the field. Yet we in Washington have responsibilities, as well. General Petraeus was confirmed by the Senate without a single vote in opposition, and he and his troops need these resources to succeed in their mission. Many in Congress say they support the troops, and I believe them. Now they have a chance to show that support in deed, as well as in word. Congress needs to approve emergency funding for our troops, without strings and without delay. If they send me a bill that does otherwise, I will veto it.

Thank you for listening.

U.S. destroys bomb factory in Iraq

Monsters...

From the AP:

U.S. troops killed five insurgents and destroyed a bomb-making factory Wednesday north of Baghdad, and dozens more were detained after fierce clashes in a Sunni-dominated province west of the capital.

Scattered violence killed at least nine people, while a claim by the U.S. military that insurgents used children in a weekend suicide attack raised concerns about new tactics being adopted by insurgents as a security crackdown aimed at stopping sectarian violence enters its sixth week.

Iraq's Sunni Vice President Tariq al-Hashemi, meanwhile, renewed calls for talks to be opened with insurgents in an attempt to bring peace, but he excluded al-Qaida in Iraq.

"I do believe that there is no way but to talk to everybody," he told the British Broadcasting Corp.

Apart from al-Qaida, which he said was "not very much willing in fact to talk to anybody," all parties "should be invited, should be called to sit down around the table to discuss their fears, their reservations."

Maj. Gen. Michael Barbero, deputy director for regional operations on the Joint Staff, said Tuesday that a vehicle used in the attack was waved through a U.S. military checkpoint because two children were visible in the back seat. He said this was the first reported use of children in a suicide car bombing in Baghdad.

"Children in the back seat lowered suspicion, (so) we let it move through, they parked the vehicle, the adults run out and detonate it with the children in the back," Barbero told reporters in Washington. "The brutality and ruthless nature of this enemy hasn't changed."

I should say cowards! Blowing it up with children in the vehicle as they ran away?

U.S. forces killed five suspected insurgents, detained three others and used an airstrike to destroy a bomb-making factory that contained large-caliber ammunition and several 50-gallon barrels of explosive material near Taji, an air base 12 miles north of Baghdad, the military said in a statement. No American troops or civilians were injured during the operation, it added.

A Sadrist lawmaker, Bahaa al-Araji, also said U.S. troops raided his office Wednesday, seizing the memory card from his computer along with a gun and a rifle. The U.S. military had no immediate comment.

We are making progress, but I know Sad'r told his militia to pull back and hide their arms until this is over. He is probably watching Congress and figures we will be leaving so he can just wait; thanks hezbocrats!

Chertoff SPP Implementation Memo Uncovered by Judicial Watch

Correction: President Bush, Mexico's President Fox, and the Prime Minister of Canada signed this North American Union agreement in 2005.

Cross posted from Bear Creek Ledger

Blue Collar Republican tells us about a memo received by Judicial Watch (records received through the FOIA). This memo from the Dept. of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Michael Chertoff describes responsibilities of the agencies within DHS in the execution of the Security and Prosperity Partnership (SPP) agenda. Remember SPP is not a treaty (thusly does not allow any Legislative action) and has been signed by no official of the United States yet Secretary Chertoff is enacting DHS agencies to follow and execute directives issued by this agreement.

According to the memorandum signed by Secretary Chertoff: “…The [Security and Prosperity Partnership] has, in addition to identifying a number of new action items, comprehensively rolled up most of our existing homeland security-related policy initiatives with Canada and Mexico, and ongoing action and reporting in the various U.S.-Canada and U.S.-Mexico working groups led by DHS [Department of Homeland Security] should now be driven by a single agenda: the SPP.”

McCain Reconsidering Immigration Views from Liberally Conservative

McCain Reconsidering Immigration Views

Yeah, right...

Cross posted from Liberally Conservative

“Immigration is probably a more powerful issue here than almost anyplace that I’ve been,” Mr. McCain said after a stop in Cedar Falls.

An odd statement from a Senator from Arizona, but John McCain claims he is reconsidering his current “amnesty” views for illegal immigrants. The Senator from the Southwest was in Iowa this past Saturday.

The New York Times reported Mr. McCain said he was reconsidering his views on how the immigration law might be changed. He said he was open to legislation that would require people who came to the United States illegally to return home before applying for citizenship, a measure proposed by Representative Mike Pence, Republican of Indiana.

Mr. McCain has previously favored legislation that would allow most illegal immigrants to become citizens without leaving the country, typically known as amnesty.

On Saturday morning in Des Moines, Mr. Brownback stood for 30 minutes at a breakfast with Republicans as question after question — without exception — was directed at an immigration system that Iowans denounced as failing. These people are stealing from us,” said Larry Smith, a factory owner from Truro and a member of the central committee of the state Republican Party.

Finally, Mr. Brownback, with a slight smile, inquired, “Any other topics that people want to talk about?” Brownback shouldn’t be passing the immigration “hot potatoes” around like that; he may get burned.

“What are you going to do with illegal immigrants who come here and become criminals?” demanded Jodi Wohlenhaus, a Republican homemaker who lives outside Des Moines.

Mr. Brownback didn’t answer the question.

The issue has become much more complicated as the presidential campaign has gotten under way, exposing the Republicans in particular to voters who are angry about what they see as porous borders, growing demands from immigrants on the social welfare and education systems and job losses that they link at least in part to a low-wage labor force coming over the border.

Mr. McCain, for example, appeared to distance himself from Senator Edward M. Kennedy, the Massachusetts Democrat with whom he formed an alliance last year on an immigration bill that stalled in Congress.

“What I’ve tried to point out is we couldn’t pass the legislation,” Mr. McCain said. “So we have to change the legislation so it can pass. And I’ve been working with Senator Kennedy, but we’ve also been working with additional senators, additional House members.”

Mr. McCain focused instead on the proposal by Mr. Pence, a conservative.

“Pence has this touchback proposal,” Mr. McCain said at a news conference. “I said hey, let’s consider that if that’s a way we can get some stuff.”

Mr. McCain’s aides said his identification with Mr. Kennedy accounted for much of his political problem on the issue with conservatives. One of his rivals for the nomination, former Gov. Mitt Romney of Massachusetts, has taken to attacking what he calls the McCain-Kennedy bill.

McCain staffers then began to spin the candidates view on immigration.

Mr. McCain’s aides said they were confident that he could overcome concerns among Iowa voters if he pointed to the enforcement mechanisms he supports, arguing that only about one-third of Republican primary voters have strong-line views on immigration.

How are we dealing with it?” said John Weaver, a senior adviser to Mr. McCain. “We’re facing it head-on. John’s position — and the president’s position — is widely supported by a vast majority of primary and caucus voters.”

So McCain is not serious about sending illegal immigrants back to Mexico, he is spinning his response to the majority of primary and caucus voters. To McCain it’s all about votes and he doesn’t have the intestinal fortitude to stand up for punishing lawbreakers, instead giving them a pardon through amnesty.

“Senator McCain will be hurt badly if he continues to support a bill like last time,” said Senator Jeff Sessions, Republican of Alabama. “I think he’ll have a hard time defending that piece of legislation. I think it would be important for him to demonstrate that his position on immigration is not defined by the bill that he introduced last time.”

A front-page article in The Des Moines Register after the first day of Mr. McCain’s bus trip here focused on his defending his efforts on changing immigration laws.

Mr. Smith, the Republican Party central committee member, said Mr. McCain’s views on immigration had eliminated him as a contender in the view of many state Republicans.

“I have a hard time appreciating McCain’s position at all on this issue,” Mr. Smith said. “I feel he’s been extremely weak.”

“When I go county to county visiting 29 counties in my area, I believe almost without exception that immigration is that issue that puts fire in their eyes,” he said. “They just really are livid that we have allowed this to happen to the point it has.”

“The business community has always been skeptical about any requirement to make workers leave the U.S. to obtain legal status,” said Laura Reiff, of the Essential Worker Immigration Coalition, which represents service industries. “We haven’t ruled a Pence-like touchback completely out of the question, but it would need to be an efficient, functional process.”

I would suggest Ms. Reiff spend some time in prison if she feels hiring illegal immigrants is a position important to take. She can spin all she wants but defending amnesty means you currently support hiring illegal immigrants, who many Iowans call “criminal.”

House OKs subpoenas for top Bush aides

Endless hearings and subpoenas is what I predicted...

From the AP:

A House panel on Wednesday approved subpoenas for
President Bush's political adviser, Karl Rove and other top White House aides, setting up a constitutional showdown over the firings of eight federal prosecutors.

By voice vote, the House Judiciary subcommittee on commercial and administrative law decided to compel the president's top aides to testify publicly and under oath about their roles in the firings.

The White House has refused to budge in the controversy, standing by embattled Attorney General Alberto Gonzales and insisting that the firings were appropriate. White House spokesman Tony Snow said that in offering aides to talk to the committees privately, Bush had sought to avoid the "media spectacle" that would result from public hearings with Rove and others at the witness table.

"The question they've got to ask themselves is, are you more interested in a political spectacle than getting the truth?" Snow said of the overture Tuesday by the White House via its top lawyer, Fred Fielding.

Obviously, the answer is a political spectacle.

The panel approved, but has not issued, subpoenas for Rove, former White House Counsel Harriet Miers, their deputies and Kyle Sampson, Gonzales' chief of staff, who resigned over the uproar last week.

The panel also voted to compel the production of documents related to the firings from those officials and Gonzales, Fielding and White House chief of staff Joshua Bolton. Fielding a day earlier refused to provide Congress internal White House communications on the subject.

The full Judiciary Committee would authorize the subpoenas if Chairman John Conyers of Michigan chose to do so.

...snip
Authorizing the subopenas "does provide this body the leverage needed to negotiate from a position of strenghth," said Rep. William Delahunt (news, bio, voting record), D-Mass.

Republicans called the authorization premature, though some GOP members said they would consider voting to approve the subpoenas if Conyers promises to issue them only if he has evidence of wrongdoing.

Conyers agreed. "This (authority) will not be used in a way that will make you regret your vote."

Several Republicans said, "No" during the voice vote, but no roll call was taken.

For his part, Bush remained resolute.

Would he fight Democrats in court to protect his aides against congressional subpoenas?

"Absolutely," Bush declared Tuesday.

...snip

Bush said he worried that allowing testimony under oath would set a precedent on the separation of powers that would harm the presidency as an institution.

The President doesn't seem to understand that Congress has no respect for the Executive Branch. What they want is to be the Parliament and the President to be the figure head like England has with the Monarchy.

If neither side blinks, the dispute could end in court — ultimately the Supreme Court — in a politically messy development that would prolong what Bush called the "public spectacle" of the Justice Department's firings, and public trashings, of the eight U.S. attorneys.

Sen. Arlen Specter (news, bio, voting record), R-Pa., the Senate panel's former chairman, appealed for pragmatism.

"It is more important to get the information promptly than to have months or years of litigation," Specter said.

Bush, in a late-afternoon statement at the White House, decried any attempts by Democrats to engage in "a partisan fishing expedition aimed at honorable public servants."

"It will be regrettable if they choose to head down the partisan road of issuing subpoenas and demanding show trials when I have agreed to make key White House officials and documents available," the president said.

They are political appointees and can be fired and replaced on a whim by the President. That is what Gonzalez should have said in the first place.

I have never liked Gonzales, I think he is dim witted and got where he is because of affirmative action. I hope he resigns and we are done with him.

Bush defended Gonzales against demands from congressional Democrats and a handful of Republicans that Gonzales resign over his handling of the U.S. attorneys' firings over the past year.

"He's got support with me," Bush said. "I support the attorney general."

I hope that is all talk.

Democrats say the prosecutors' dismissals were politically motivated. Gonzales initially had asserted the firings were performance-related, not based on political considerations.

But e-mails released earlier this month between the Justice Department and the White House contradicted that assertion and led to a public apology from Gonzales over the handling of the matter.

The e-mails showed that Rove, as early as Jan. 6, 2005, questioned whether the U.S. attorneys should all be replaced at the start of Bush's second term, and to some degree worked with former White House Counsel Harriet Miers and former Gonzales chief of staff Kyle Sampson to get some prosecutors dismissed.

Karl Rove's job is to advice the President. He was doing his job and if he had listened, the Democrats would not have this ammunition. I mean they have already stated that firing ALL 93 U.S. Attorneys like Clinton did in 1993 is not unusual. It is the selective firing of these eight that has caused the issue.

Senator Clinton has said as much and considering they are all Clinton appointees I would take her advice and fire the lot of them now.

In his remarks Tuesday, Bush emphasized that he appoints federal prosecutors and it is natural to consider replacing them. While saying he disapproved of how the decisions were explained to Congress, he insisted "there is no indication that anybody did anything improper."

Nonetheless, the Senate on Tuesday voted 94-2 to strip Gonzales of his authority to fill U.S. attorney vacancies without Senate confirmation. Democrats contend the Justice Department and White House purged the eight federal prosecutors, some of whom were leading political corruption investigations, after a change in the USA Patriot Act gave Gonzales the new authority.

They should never have approved of that in the first place and I am glad it is gone.

"What happened in this case sends a signal really through intimidation by purge: 'Don't quarrel with us any longer,'" said Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse, D-R.I., a former U.S. attorney.

Um, White House is two words not one.

Do you hear the arrogance from this cockroach?

I told you after the elections I was hoping the democrats would behave as they promised, but that just has not happened. They are behaving as predicted.

Oh and don't think they have given up on the idea of impeachment folks. They are just trying to figure out how to get Bush and Cheney impeached at the same time, making Nancy "shrieker of the house" Pelosi President. They do not want Cheney to become President! I think I would enjoy having Dick Cheney as President, I am tired of President Bush.

English vs. Spanish: A Question of Racism?

Cross posted from Illegal Aliens Must Go

by John W. Lillpop

In a rare show of wisdom several years ago, California voters passed Proposition 227 to abolish most forms of bilingual education. The premise was quite simple: When English is not spoken in the home, youngsters are at a decided disadvantage, and must, therefore, receive intensive English instruction elsewhere.

Pampering non-English speaking youngsters with bilingual instruction was correctly seen as counterproductive, and not in the best interests of the young learners.

Unfortunately, some Hispanics educators still refuse to abide by the law and continue to teach in Spanish.

One such so-called educator was recently recognized as “Teacher of the Year” by a San Diego school district. Pancho, which is not his real name, proclaimed it his duty to instruct Hispanics in their native tongue, and hailed this defiance of state law as a major accomplishment.

Were it not for the fact that California’s educational system is administered almost exclusively by outlaw liberals, Pancho would have been fired and his teaching credentials permanently revoked. By refusing to expose his students to the language needed to succeed in America, Pancho should also be arrested and charged with child endangerment/abuse.

As an educator, Pancho should know that California now requires students to pass a test in order to graduate from high School. One of the test subjects is English proficiency.

Do you get that, Pancho? English, not Spanish, is a requirement for high school graduation in California.

California does not test for Spanish proficiency because English is the predominate language in California and throughout America. Internationally, mastery of English, not Spanish, is vital.

Pancho probably labels those who want English to be the official American language as “racists.” However, I doubt that Pancho sees himself as a racist for preferring Spanish to English.

In fact, Pancho probably believes that his defiance of state law is perfectly justified because bilingual education means diversity.

To liberals, “Diversity is our greatest strength” is recognized and accepted as the new pledge of allegiance to socialism.

California parents please remember this: English proficiency is required to graduate high school. Spanish proficiency is required to pick fruit and
operate leaf blowers.

Which future do you want for your child?

Comprehende?

John Lillpop is a recovering liberal.

Military Families and Veterans Arrested at Nancy Pelosi's Office

Yup, Nancy "shrieker of the house" Pelosi supports the troops and their families...

From
Indy Bay:
by Military Families Speak out

On Monday, March 19th 2007, eleven military family members and veterans were arrested by federal police at Nancy Pelosi's office in San Francisco after they met with Pelosi staff to express their opposition to Pelosi's plan to continue funding the War in Iraq, as outlined in the supplmental appropriations bill coming to house vote this week. The group included veterans who had served in Iraq and mothers whose sons are in Iraq now and others whose sons have served multiple deployments. The arrestees inlcuded members of Military Families Speak Out, Iraq Veterans Against the War, and Veterans for Peace. The group was charged with "disturbances" and failure to obey orders of federal police. After processing, all eleven were released.
Now, that is a nice way to treat military family members huh? hehe

I must admit, I don't have all the details, but you would think Pelosi would avoid this like the plague. I mean aren't they on her side? They are eating their own people!

How Liberal or Conservative are Presidential Hopefuls?

Are you sure about who you are going to vote for? Well here is some helpful information...

From The National Journal:

Since 1981, National Journal's annual vote ratings have defined where members of Congress stand ideologically. The ratings rank lawmakers on how they vote relative to each other on a conservative-to-liberal scale in both the Senate and the House. The scores are based on the members' votes in three areas: economic issues, social issues, and foreign policy.
Keep in mind, this is compared to each other so the numbers are actually worse.

How To Read These Ratings

A score of 78 on economic issues, for example, means that the representative was more liberal than 78 percent of his or her House colleagues on key economic votes during 2006. "N/A" means the member missed more than half of the rated votes. "*" denotes members who have left their seat. The designations "E" and "S" and "F" in the results display refer to the "economic" and "social" and "foreign" policy votes used to determine overall ratings.

And add that it tells you how much James Madison they have in them compared to how much Karl Marx.

Democrats Load Up emergency Iraq Funding Bill With Pork

There has not been enough reporting on this...

From
WaPo:

These people DO NOT support the troops. This is a Bill to fund the military and it is being held up do to politics. They need to pass a CLEAN appropriations bill to fund the war and get it out FAST. If they want to pull the troops out now, than vote to de-fund the war. Forget all these games about time tables. If you are going to leave the troops in harm's way than you give them what they need to achieve VICTORY. Notice all time tables discussed have been just PRIOR to the 2008 Presidential election. Do you think that is a coincidence??

We need more of what Winston Churchill said during WWII; Victory at all costs... victory despite all terror... I think I got that righVictory—victory at all costs, victory in spite of all terror, victory however long and hard the road may be...

Congress to Probe Improper FBI Data Collection

This was an abuse of the patriot act...

From
The Las Vegas Sun:

Congress wants to know how the FBI illegally or improperly gathered telephone, e-mail and financial records of Americans and foreigners while chasing terrorists.

Glenn A. Fine, the Justice Department inspector general who revealed FBI data-gathering abuses in a 130-page report last week, was to appear before the House Judiciary Committee on Tuesday. The panel also called FBI General Counsel Valerie Caproni, whose office was taken to task by Fine for inadequate supervision of the bureau's use of documents called national security letters to gather data.

In a review of headquarters files and a sampling of just four of the FBI's 56 field offices, Fine found 48 violations of law or presidential directives during 2003-2005 and estimated that "a significant number of ... violations throughout the FBI have not been identified or reported."

The bureau has launched an audit of all 56 field offices to determine the full extent of the problem.

On Wednesday, the Senate Judiciary Committee hears from Fine and FBI Director Robert Mueller on the same topic.

A key concern in Congress is whether the USA Patriot Act, which substantially loosened controls over the letters, should be revised.

I am really sick and tired of the level of incompetence in our governmental bureaucracy. I know the Left is going to make this all about the Bush administration, but it is not. It is about the FBI being totally incompetent. You know there are allot of people that do not like the Patriot Act, so you be extra careful and dot all your eyes and cross your tees. That used to be common sense, now it is uncommon sense. People in this country are really starting to concern me.

Problems? What Problems?

Cross posted from Common Sense America

The 2008 presidential campaign is going to be very good for this country, especially when it comes to the issue of illegal immigration. Why? Because it is going to force the candidates to crawl out from under their cozy little D.C. rocks - and slither among - We The People. And it seems, according to the NYT, that We The People are already giving them an earful:

Immigration, an issue that has divided Republicans in Washington, is reverberating across the party’s presidential campaign field, causing particular complications for Senator John McCain of Arizona.

The topic came up repeatedly in recent campaign swings through Iowa by Mr. McCain and Senator Sam Brownback of Kansas, another Republican who, like Mr. McCain, supports giving some illegal immigrants a path to citizenship, a position that puts them at odds with many other conservatives. Both candidates faced intensive questioning from voters on the issue, which has become more prominent in the state as immigrants are playing a larger and increasingly visible role in the economy and society.

“Immigration is probably a more powerful issue here than almost anyplace that I’ve been,” Mr. McCain said after a stop in Cedar Falls.

As he left Iowa, Mr. McCain said he was reconsidering his views on how the immigration law might be changed.

But McCain wasn’t alone in his get-your-head-out-of-your-butt revelation as Senator Sam Brownback was also hammered on the issue:

On Saturday morning in Des Moines, Mr. Brownback stood for 30 minutes at a breakfast with Republicans as question after question — without exception — was directed at an immigration system that Iowans denounced as failing. “These people are stealing from us,” said Larry Smith, a factory owner from Truro and a member of the central committee of the state Republican Party.

Finally, Mr. Brownback, with a slight smile, inquired, “Any other topics that people want to talk about?”

No. We would really like to get some answers as to why you, and the rest of our elected officials, have abandoned the American citizen by refusing to enforce our immigration laws.

Of course, we all know the answer.

John, at Illegal Aliens Must Go, points out that elitists like Bush, and many of our elected officials, are blind to the problems the American citizens are facing as a result of the massive influx of illegal aliens into our communities because it doesn’t affect them. Their children attend private schools that have not been overrun with non-English speaking children, their homes are in elite areas where the only contact they have with illegal aliens are the ones mowing their lawns or mopping their floors, and their jobs are not affected, so John points out:

In other words, to elitists like George W. Bush, greedy business people, and Democrats, the deterioration of America will be virtually invisible.

But the greatest strength of our democracy is that once every four years, these elitists must stand before, and be judged, not by a jury of their peers - as they are in Washington, D.C. - but by the people of America. And that, my friends, is where the rubber meets the road.

Senator John McCain stated,

“Immigration is probably a more powerful issue here than almost anyplace that I’ve been,” Mr. McCain said after a stop in Cedar Falls.

My guess is that McCain, Brownback, and the other Republican candidates, are going to begin to feel as if they are stuck in some sort of crazy Groundhog Day scenario as they continue on their little trip to reality across this nation. City after city is going to grill them about their views on this issue and they will, hopefully, begin to realize that Cedar Falls is not only in Iowa, it is Anytown, USA.

Liberal Hypocrisy on Illegal Aliens

Cross posted from Illegal Aliens Must Go

By John W. Lillpop

Anyone doubting the hypocrisy of Democrats should consider the following liberal positions with respect to illegal invasions:

* Invading a foreign nation is wrong–except when it comes to illegal aliens from Mexico who invade America;

* Those who support English as the official American language are racists. But Hispanics who prefer Spanish to English are perfectly justified because “diversity is our greatest strength;”

* Republicans are for big business, the rich and powerful. Democrats, on the other hand, represent labor, working families, and the “little guy”

Ignore the fact that Democrats support the influx of millions of illegal aliens, who work for lower wages and without benefits, the effect of which is to drive down the standard of living for “average” American citizens;

* Outsourcing of American jobs offshore is driven by immoral corporate greed. By contrast, open borders and amnesty are acceptable because the majority of illegal aliens are future Democrats;

* Conservatives who seek to preserve American culture are bigoted hate mongers, whereas new immigrants must be allowed, even encouraged, to maintain and celebrate their cultural heritage at all costs;

* Blocking the sale of port security to UAE was necessary to protect homeland security, but securing the border with Mexico is wrong because it would “scapegoat” Hispanics;

* Illegal aliens should be licensed to drive–to avoid breaking the law by driving illegally.

Think about it– Are you enough of a hypocrite to be a liberal?

John Lillpop is a recovering liberal.

Pet Food Recall!!

I am very sorry to report...

From the AP:

  • • Recall of wet pet food made by Menu Foods for Wal-Mart, Kroger, PetsMart, others
  • • Undisclosed number of cats and dogs suffered vomiting, kidney failure; 10 died
  • • Recall affects specific sizes of Iams and Eukanuba brands of dog, cat food
  • • See lists of recalled brands at bottom of story

A major manufacturer of dog and cat food sold under Wal-Mart, Safeway, Kroger and other store brands recalled 60 million containers of wet pet food Friday after reports of kidney failure and deaths.

An unknown number of cats and dogs suffered kidney failure and about 10 died after eating the affected pet food, Menu Foods said in announcing the North American recall. Product testing has not revealed a link explaining the reported cases of illness and death, the company said.

"At this juncture, we're not 100 percent sure what's happened," said Paul Henderson, the company's president and chief executive officer. However, the recalled products were made using wheat gluten purchased from a new supplier, since dropped for another source, spokeswoman Sarah Tuite said. Wheat gluten is a source of protein.
'Cuts and gravy' food sold in cans, pouches recalled

The recall covers the company's "cuts and gravy" style food, which consists of chunks of meat in gravy, sold in cans and small foil pouches between December 3 and March 6 throughout the United States, Canada and Mexico.

The pet food was sold by stores operated by the Kroger Co., Safeway Inc., Wal-Mart Stores Inc. and PetSmart Inc., among others, Henderson said.

Menu Foods said it makes pet foods for 17 of the top 20 North American retailers. It is also a contract manufacturer for the top branded pet food companies, including Procter & Gamble Co.

Proctor & Gamble announced Friday the recall of specific 3 oz., 5.5 oz., 6 oz. and 13.2 oz. canned and 3 oz. and 5.3 oz. foil pouch cat and dog wet food products made by Menu Foods but sold under the Iams and Eukanuba brands. The recalled products bear the code dates of 6339 through 7073 followed by the plant code 4197, P&G said.

Menu Foods' three U.S. and one Canadian factory produce more than 1 billion containers of wet pet food a year. The recall covers pet food made at company plants in Emporia, Kansas, and Pennsauken, New Jersey, Henderson said.

Henderson said the company received an undisclosed number of owner complaints of vomiting and kidney failure in dogs and cats after they had been fed its products. It has tested its products but not found a cause for the sickness.

"To date, the tests have not indicated any problems with the product," Henderson said.
FDA also working to target brands

The company alerted the Food and Drug Administration, which already has inspectors in one of the two plants, Henderson said. The FDA was working to nail down brand names covered by the recall, agency spokesman Mike Herndon said.

Menu Foods is majority-owned by the Menu Foods Income Fund, based in Ontario, Canada.

Henderson said the recall would cost the company the Canadian equivalent of $26 million to $34 million.

Below are lists of specific brands recalled by Menu Foods, in addition to Proctor & Gamble's recall of certain Iams and Eukanuba products. Menu Brands lists the brands on its Web site, www.menufoods.com, and advises consumers to call 1-866-895-2708 for more information.

24-Hour Talkcast for Microlending and www.kiva.org - Sunday March 18th

OK Folks we will be participating in the telethon after our regular show on Sunday 8pm -10pm eastern. At 10:30pm eastern we will do our part. this is something I support as the RIGHT way to introduce capitalism into third world countries. I hope you tune in to find out why...

A 24-hour live interactive podcast charity event for Kiva (http://www.kiva.org) is being held starting Sunday, March 18th at noon on TalkShoe (http://www.talkshoe.com). The event will raise awareness and money for Kiva, web-based microfinancing organization which enables individuals to lend money to people in developing countries for starting small businesses.

Podcasters will unite to raise money and awareness for Kiva.org, (www.kiva.org) a web-based microfinancing charity that enables individuals to lend money to people in developing countries for starting small businesses. "Microlending is a way for those of us who have benefited from the Internet and the prosperity of the Western world to give something back," commented Dave Nelsen , CEO of TalkShoe.

The 24 hour Talk-a-thon will start at noon (US Eastern Time) on Sunday March 18th 2007 on TalkShoe (www.talkshoe.com). Anyone and everyone can join in the live interactive podcast to listen, talk and text-chat. During the Talk-a-thon (www.talkathon.org) podcast hosts will raise awareness about Kiva and microlending, and ask listeners who are so inclined to contribute money to a dedicated PayPal account. TalkShoe will administer lending of this money to developing nations' entrepreneurs thru Kiva, a website that has been implemented as an efficient and effective microlending program. 100% of the funds raised, including $500 contributed by Dave Nelsen of TalkShoe, will be perpetually reinvested thru Kiva. Periodic progress reports will be given on TalkShoe’s blog.

"We feel that those of us who get so much information, entertainment and community from the Internet should also explore its use to make the world a better place for all its peoples", says Randolph Resnick, who had the idea during a live TalkShoe podcast about aging and retirement.

Kiva has receive accolades throughout the world from organizations including NPR, the New York Times, the BBC, PBS, ABC News, Business Week, the Wall Street Journal, CNN, The Village Voice, and the general blogosphere. The following quotes are from the Kiva website.

Vinod Khosla, founding CEO of Sun Microsystems and a partner at the venture capital firm Kleiner Perkins, has called microlending "one of the most important economic phenomena since the advent of capitalism and Adam Smith."

The New York Times, in its article Web-Based Microfinancing, December 10, 2006 said, “At Kiva.org, a schoolteacher in Kansas can partner with an expert seamstress in countries like Kenya, Mexico and Ecuador to jump-start a tailor shop.”

“Friends and neighbors have been lending one another money forever, but as the Web makes virtual neighbors of strangers, Kiva, which is Swahili for ‘agreement’ or ‘unity,’ is harnessing the power of social networking to support micro-enterprise in the developing world,” said Business Week in A Little Money Goes a Long Way, July 31, 2006.

Kiva is “…revolutionizing how donors and lenders in the US are connecting with small entrepreneurs in developing countries,” commented BBC News, March 1, 2006.

About Kiva (from Kiva’s website)

Kiva lets you connect with and loan money to unique small businesses in the developing world. By choosing a business on Kiva.org, you can "sponsor a business" and help the world's working poor make great strides towards economic independence. Throughout the course of the loan (usually 6-12 months), you can receive email journal updates from the business you've sponsored. As loans are repaid, you get your loan money back. Kiva partners with existing microfinance institutions. In doing so, we gain access to outstanding entrepreneurs from impoverished communities world-wide. Our partners are experts in choosing qualified borrowers. That said, they are usually short on funds. Through Kiva.org, our partners upload their borrower profiles directly to the site so you can lend to them.

Protecting the Children of Illegal Immigrants….and other criminals

Cross posted from StikNstein…has no mercy

Congress today announced it’s intention to investigate the treatment of the children of families torn apart by enforcement of Immigration laws.

U.S. Rep. William Delahunt joined Sens. Edward Kennedy and John Kerry and U.S. Rep. Barney Frank, all Democrats, at a meeting of family members Sunday……..SOURCE

In a possible statement they noted:
kerry.jpg

” It is our intent and determination that innocent children should not suffer at the hands of heavy handed Government action.
Enforcement of immigration law has exacted a horrible toll on these kids and as responsible Government representatives we intend to protect the rights of these unfortunate victims of what we consider to be unnecessarily harsh Government treatment.”

“These families don’t understand why they are being treated this way. The children are suffering fear and mental anguish as their parents are being taken away from them and they find themselves destitute…..”

Enforcement of immigration law has exacted a horrible toll on these kids, and Congress can not stand by and do nothing.

“In this instance these folks were just trying to do a job, and found their families separated, their lives suddenly ruined, their homes gone, and six small children terrified about their uncertain future.

“On the eve of federal legislation being introduced to fix the broken system, we should not be using precious federal resources to tear up families and devastate our communities,” said Helena S. Marques, executive director of the Immigrant Assistance Center in New Bedford.Via Boston.com

This bold show of support for the children of Agents Ramos and Compean came as a surprise to the…………….

WAIT……….WHAT?……..OH…….

SORRY………….MY BAD….

…..HEH…WRONG CHILDREN……

NEW BEDFORD, Mass. — U.S. Rep. William Delahunt said there will be a Congressional investigation into the immigration raid at a leather goods factory last week that left dozens of families in turmoil. Delahunt wants the subcommittee to look into U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement policies regarding the children and families of those arrested.
“There was no excuse for their not being absolutely 100 percent certain that children would not be victims,” Rep. Barney Frank said.

Possibly adding:
“The treatment and devastation at the hands of the Government of the 3 thousand or so families of those tasked with protecting our borders is their own problem.
As Democrats and Americans, we must show compassion for the children of 12 million illegal aliens potential future constituents in our country.
Our concern is the well being of children of the criminal illegal aliens whose lives are destroyed by the government……not the children of the Law enforcement families whose lives are destroyed by the government.

When asked why only 2 Democrats had joined 70 Republicans co sponsoring a bill calling for an investigation into the Ramos and Compean arrest and prosecution…
Senator Kennedy might have added:

“Law enforcement families vote Republican anyway……….They can rot….”

A Two Week Peek At Illegal Immigration In America

Cross posted from Common Sense America

And it is not a pretty picture . . .

You know, it just doesn’t take a lot of journalistic prowess to uncover the problems caused by illegal immigration due to our government’s refusal to enforce our borders and our immigration laws.

Just a quick trip through the headlines this month, and keep in mind that we are only two weeks into this month, gives us an ugly glimpse at our nation’s problems.

Nationally, illegal immigration has reached a critical mass. You know it. I know it. But unfortunately, our government doesn’t quite get it.

As city after city, state after state, tries to enforce laws that our government deliberately ignores, many are landing in court. This week, a state judge threw out Valley Park, Missouri’s first attempt to curb illegal immigration in their community. But, the city board members are not giving up and have a new resolution they are considering. And Mayor Lou Barletta found himself in court this week defending the city of Hazleton, Pa’s decision to enact laws against illegal aliens.

Yet while city after city struggles to do the job our feckless officials in Washington refuse to do, even the Department Of Labor Admits H-1b Can Displace US Workers! And H-1b would be a legal form of immigration.

Not only do illegal aliens displace American workers but in just the past two weeks they are once again in the crime headlines.

Salt Lake City, Utah:

(KUTV) SALT LAKE CITY - U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officials, over a two-day period, arrested a dozen sex predators living in the Salt Lake City area – including a Central American man who abused five young girls between the ages of three and nine. [snip]

Agents say those arrested in Utah are natives of Mexico, Germany, Sudan, Croatia, Samoa, Guatemala and the Congo. All are now in the process of being deported.

California:

SAN YSIDRO, Calif. - U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers have repatriated a 27-year-old Juarez man wanted for raping and murdering a cocktail waitress in that Mexican border city more than two years ago.

ICE officers from Los Angeles transported Joaquin Gutierrez Payan, a.k.a. Ricardo Manuel Gutierrez, to the border crossing at San Ysidro, Calif. yesterday where he was turned over to Mexican immigration officials. Gutierrez is wanted by Mexican authorities for raping and strangling Cinthia Irasema Ramos Quezada in December 2004. Gutierrez is also being sought for questioning as part of an ongoing investigation into the slayings of several other women in the Juarez area.

Iowa:

Police say man tried to lure 3 girls into van.

A man who approached three children and tried to get them into his van on Monday has been arrested.

Police charged Jose Hernandez-Yelasquez, 31, of 1600 Oakland Ave., Des Moines, with three counts of enticing children.

Jail records show Hernandez-Yelasquez was arrested in Des Moines three years ago and was held for immigration officials.

The children, ages 11, 13 and 14, were in the 400 block of Forest Ave., when the van stopped and a man asked them to “come here.” The girls told police they approached cautiously but kept their distance. The man then made lewd comments and when the girls started to walk away he told them he had money.

North Carolina:

RALEIGH, N.C. — A father and son from Clayton were laid to rest together on Thursday.

Funerals for Jerry Braswell and his son, Jerry Jr., were held at a church in Garner Thursday afternoon.

The Braswells were killed Sunday in a fiery crash that police say was caused by Luciano Tellez, an unlicensed, illegal immigrant with prior DWI convictions.

Florida:

A 22-year-old illegal immigrant from Mexico has been arrested in connection with last month’s bus stop abduction of a Florida boy who later staged his own dramatic escape.

Authorities said the kidnapping victim, 13-year-old Clay Moore, was alive today because of quick thinking and a safety pin. Moore was abducted two weeks ago while waiting for the school bus.

“Some guy just pulls up in a red truck and tells the kid to get in the truck or he’s going to shoot, pulls out a gun and the kid gets in the truck and they take off,” said an eyewitness.

Moore said he was dragged deep into the woods, where a sock was put in his mouth, his hands and feet were bound with duct tape, and his abductor tied him to a tree. Remarkably, Moore managed to escape by using a safety pin that he’d hidden in his mouth.

Police say that Beltran planned to hold Moore for ransom and that he surrendered because he didn’t want to be housed in a Mexican jail. He will be charged with kidnapping.

Louisiana:

One suspected illegal immigrant is behind bars, accused of stabbing an acquaintance in the heart. Police suspect Vanega stabbed Deleon several times killing him with a strike to the heart.

New Orleans:

Two foreign nationals and one U.S. citizen sentenced on drug trafficking charges

Ferney Alonso Angulo-Estupiyan aka Mesach Cardona, age 39, received a sentence of 262 months; Jhon Alexander Ibarguen-Vanegas aka Edgardo Reyes Rodriguez, age 33, received a sentence of 262 months and Tracy Lamont Walton, age 32, a U.S. citizen, received a sentence of 120 months. The defendants admitted they smuggled cocaine from Venezuela into the United States using stowaways on board various cargo vessels. The narcotics were distributed to different cities including New Orleans, La., Houston, Texas, and Jackson, Miss.

North Carolina:

Raymundo Pineda was found guilty of driving while impaired, hit-and-run and second-degree murder for the death of Jasmine Lawrence in April 2005.

Prosecutors said Pineda was driving drunk on Independence Boulevard when he hit Lawrence’s car and didn’t stop to help the injured woman.

Maryland:

BALTIMORE - Haji Subandi, 69, a citizen of the Republic of Indonesia, pleaded guilty today to conspiracy to provide material support to a designated foreign terrorist organization, two counts of money laundering and attempted exportation of arms and munitions, announced United States Attorney for the District of Maryland Rod J. Rosenstein.

Texas:

It was around 9pm last night when police pulled a man over for suspected drunk driving. While talking with police, he mentioned he had just left a cockfight.

Police went to check his story out and when they got there, they found hundreds of people who immediately started running. Many of them jumped fences and ran into people’s houses to try to get away.

Altogether, Immigration and Custom Enforcement agents arrested close to 40 undocumented immigrants. Investigators found a stack of dead roosters and several that were still in cages.

Connecticut:

Former member of U.S. Navy arrested in Arizona on terrorism and espionage charges

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - Hassan Abujihaad, formerly known as Paul R. Hall, 31, was arrested Wednesday in Phoenix on federal criminal charges filed by U.S. Attorney Kevin J. O’Connor for the District of Connecticut. The criminal complaint alleges that, in 2001, Abujihaad provided material support or resources, knowing or intending that they were to be used in preparation for, or in carrying out, a conspiracy to kill U.S. nationals, in violation of 18 U.S.C. § 2339A. The complaint also charges that Abujihaad delivered, communicated, transmitted or caused the delivery, communication or transmission of classified information relating to the national defense to persons not entitled to receive it, in violation of 18 U.S.C. § 793(d).

Mississippi:

LPD: Illegal alien faked thousands of IDs

An illegal immigrant is in jail after allegedly falsifying thousands of immigration and Social Security cards in Jones County. And one of the identities stolen might have been yours.

Jose Vega faces 40 criminal charges for the misuse of Social Security cards. Authorities say about six months ago people from all over the U.S. starting calling to say that the IRS was reporting they had income from companies in Laurel.

“When we started to track a lot of that down we were able to discover that this individual was manufacturing various forms of identification,” says Laurel police investigator Michael Reaves.

Identification such as Social Security cards, passports, and resident alien cards. Several of these cards could have some Mississippi residents sitting on edge.

That is just the tip of the iceberg because most of our liberal media won’t mention the immigration status of the criminals among us. And while all of this is going on, it seems that we will be enduring more arrogant rallies full of demands from the illegal aliens and their supporters on May 1, 2007. They are calling it The Great American Boycott II.

We are also seeing the revenge of Elvira Arellano this week as the churches in major Americans cities say, City Churches Plan to Offer Sanctuary to Illegal Immigrants. You just had to see that one coming.

And our President is still in denial during his trip to South America according to CNN:

Bush said he’s optimistic that an immigration bill would get through Congress this year.

“I think we can find a rational way forward, somewhere in between automatic citizenship and kicking people out of the country,” he said. “We are a nation of law and therefore if we can change the law for the better, we ought to do so.”

Change the law for the better? Is it just me, or does it seem that Bush is merely parrot
